I just saw Solo, it was enjoyable but confusing. Even reading the official timeline has left it seeming a bit of a mess with regards to matching up with the other Star Wars films.

However, as a standalone movie it was very watchable, just not sure how well it would work if you don't go in as a star wars fan who has seen the others. A lot of the pleasure of the film is how it ties in the others and gives little bits and pieces, like characters, that come from the other films.

It is Chewbacca teaming up with Han that makes it work though they really underused Chewie, as the films always do. There is so much more to come from Chewbacca, he should get more lines to deliver for Han to deadpan a reply to.

What was confusing about the timeline ed? I'll get round to seeing it at some point.

{Ed001's Note - Han looks about the same age as he is in the original film, but everyone else looks much younger. So it leaves you confused as to when it is actually meant to be set. Everything is very much like the Empire of the original as well. Yet he is escaping a juvenile life at the start, but he looks like he is a lot older. It never quite lets you understand or explains where it is properly.}

Ed I think it is set a decade before a new hope .Maul is killed in Star Wars Rebels by Ob1 when Luke is about 6 or 7 .I know what you mean though it is hard to keep up with everything Star Wars related. Rogue One still the best by a mile in my opinion

Ed001, is it not fair to say that this film could of been set within the star wars universe but didn't need to be Han Solo. I've only seen the trailers but it does look good, just seems the norm at the minute to `re-boot` as it's easy marketing.

Similar to oceans 8, the plot looks ok, but it's linked to the old films purely for the easy sell.

{Ed001's Note - I agree with that, but the best bit, for me, was the Lando/Chewie thing, so I am not sure it would have been as good if it was not Han.}

Yeah I get what you mean. He looks the same as in the originals but Lando looks 10-15 years younger than his first appearance.

Rogue 1 is the best of the newer films. Hands down. Better than the prequels (not hard) better than the 2 sequels we've had last couple of years.

Oceans 8. Why. Just why. O money.
