watched blitz last night ed was a good choice for you to give me mind you saying that iv never watched a jason statham film and not liked them

probably because they always involve him beating people up (apart from lock stock)

curt {Ed001's Note - The Bank Job doesn't have a lot of him beating up people either, that's an excellent film too.}

Ill have to have a look at that one then

curt

Yeah bank Job is pretty good.

The only Statham film i don't care much for is Transporter 2, but only cos its a bit weak and far fetched compared to the over 2 in the series. {Ed001's Note - they are all far fetched to be fair!}

Yeah in terms of action and stunts but the plots was what i meant the 1st one's about people smuggling so fairly realistic and the 3rd one's about kidnapping a politicians daughter for blackmail purposes again realistic but the 2nd's plot is a bit far fetched, killing loads of people with some dodgy virus, seems a bit beyond a bunch of crims.

Being a huge anime geek I tend not to visit here often as anime is very much an acquired taste(spirited away and a few others aside). But if any of you ever gets the chance to watch Tekkonkinkreet then you should look past the unusual art style and give it a go. The story is great the characters are believable yet unique. Not quite my favourite animu film but I just think it is much easier appreciated than most, by people who don't usually partake in the wonders of Japanese animation:) I leave now back into the dark hole that are the imageboards and forums of the otaku world.(and the darker hole that is the liverpool-rumours page)
Rusty

Hey mate, i like anime too, i started watching years ago. first anime movies/ series i watch was legend of the 4 kings, 3x3 eyes and the guyver. all class anime.
huddz red

Is dragonball z classed as anime because i used to love that when i was younger haha

Last night I watched Forrest gump again and was reminded of why it's one of the best films ever made with one of the best soundtracks. Clever movie.

Bowbhoy
Also watched 'the skin I live in' with Antonio benderas, a strange idea for a movie, but defo worth a watch if you can be bothered with subtitles.

Forrest gump is a great film 'lyyyff is lyyykkk a boox ov chocolates'

ed have you seen the film the hit list?? with cuba gooding jr

curt {Ed001's Note - Forrest Gump is dire, in my opinion, I have only ever seen about 20min of it, it was so poor I switched it over. I haven't seen Hit List, is it any good? Has to be better than Gump!}

Honestly watch the whole film another good tom hanks film is the terminal

in my opinon hit list was pretty decent worth a watch when you have time

curt {Ed001's Note - that was rubbish too, Tom Hanks is an awful actor, in my opinion, I just dislike him, he always seems up his own backside and so do his characters.}

Ed001 believe me Forest Gump is an excellent movie. Don't know what it is about it but it is very very good. It's just a little slow off the mark, I recommend giving it another go personally.

KiwiRed {Ed001's Note - no thank you, I have caught bits of it since trying to watch it, every bit just makes me switch over. It is awful, Hanks is terrible.}

Ed getting the sense that you hate tom hanks films
so heres a few for you

toy story
green mile {Ed007's Note - I'm with you guys, Gump is a great film whether you like Hanks or not. I'd have it in my Top 5 films all day long. Don't listen to Sheldon (Ed001), if it isn't a dubbed/subtitled ninja film (where one guy can kill twenty others even though they have all had the same training) he isn't interested. I'd rather watch Tom Hanks than Steven Seagal.}

Cast away is a good film ed001 must like that one

curt {Ed001's Note - no way! It is dire, truly dire.}

Can you not even admit tom hanks was brilliant in that film considering he was acting alone?

curt {Ed001's Note - sorry but not for me, I just find him annoying. He is no Denzel Washington, who can carry a film no matter who is in it with him.}

Yer cant argue with denzel washington

curt {Ed001's Note - I have to say, he has to be up there as one of the greatest actors of all time. He has done films I have not enjoyed, but never played a part badly, that I can think of anyway. He can be good, bad or anything in between. Brilliant in Man On Fire and Training Day, John Q as well he is outstanding in. I can't think of a single actress I could say the same of, is there one? I mean there are loads that look great, but none that I can think of that are always good. I have seen Halle Berry be great in some things, but then films like Catwoman come to mind, she was awful in that.}

Yer 100% agree with you there mate like you say even if you dont like a denzel washington film it still doesnt change the fact he done a great job in it

oh god halle berry in cat woman was a disaster

another actor i highly rate is nicolas cage

curt {Ed001's Note - really? I can't stand him, I think he is terrible, he only gets jobs on the back of his uncle anyway.}

Dustin Hoffman Kevin Spacey as well

24 Aug 2012 23:24:59
Warrior = Masterpiece

Even if your not into UFC/MMA, you have to watch it, it's brilliant!

G.A.G.U.S

Great film, i was very impressed, not sure about kurt angle playing a Russian though.

chris

Im going to watch it now after reading your post

no pressure ha ha

curt

Brilliant film to be honest bit slow starting

when you said you werent convinced of angle being russian chris i thought he had actual lines in the film but he doesnt so russian or not it doesnt make a difference

werent impressed that tom hardy tapped out at the end though that fight should of been stopped in the first round

curt

Best film I've seen all year, modern day rocky but better {Ed001's Note - I have never met anyone who didn't enjoy it.}

23 Aug 2012 19:29:55
Ed I watched Hurt Locker for the first time last night and was underwhelmed to say the least . Expected a bit more have you seen it?.......DH {Ed001's Note - I have, I was also extremely underwhelmed. It is not a bad film, just not a particularly good film. No idea how it won Oscars, I didn't see anything special about it at all. It is one of those films you watch and move on.}

22 Aug 2012 12:43:03
i see you all are film mad on here so just wondering if any of you know any decent films on netflix

i only seem to find low budget ones that were never released into cinemas for example dolph lundgren doing an impression of a robot even though his character isnt one

thanks in advance

curt {Ed001's Note - I don't have their service, so not sure what films are on there, nor what kind of films you like, so it is difficult. Though you did say you hadn't seen the Star Wars films, so I would recommend those, if they are available. I will just give a list of a bunch of films that weren't big budget blockbusters, there might be one or two you haven't seen, that I didn't find too bad:
4,3,2,1 (Kidulthood and Adulthood's Noel Blake film, so if you liked those it is a good watch, if you haven't seen those I would recommend them too).
Blitz - Jason Statham film, but not his usual type, more along the lines of The Bank Job (which is excellent if you haven't seen it) and Killer Elite (which is also good if you haven't seen it)
Tucker and Dale Vs Evil is surprisingly funny
Harry Brown
Flawless
Children of Men - all have Michael Caine in, but don't let that put you off as they are enjoyable, if not brilliant.
The Harold and Kumar films, both are funny, but the first one especially.
I am assuming you have seen Warrior and This is England, if not watch them!
If you like martial arts films, then Donnie Yen's recent films tend to be excellent, Flashpoint being one that stands out off the top of my head.}

Thanks alot ed knew you was the best to ask ill have to have a look at those i havent seen

do you mean noel clarke?

curt {Ed001's Note - oh yeah sorry, don't know who Blake is!}

Noel Blake was a big strapping footballer who played with Leeds and Stoke in the eighties......DH {Ed001's Note - ah well I can see how I got confused now, sounds almost exactly like Noel Clarke!}

DH i sense a man crush the way you explained noel blake ;)

i enjoy correcting you ed it doesnt happen often ;)

curt {Ed001's Note - I don't normally make mistakes, as an ex once said, when I met Mr Right, I never realised your first name was Always.}

Lool oh if thats a true story your ex is a genius

bet that stumped you for an answer

curt {Ed001's Note - naw, it was a joke mate, unfortunately I have never dated a genius, except any ex that might happen to read this *shifty look*}

Curt : I knew as soon as I had posted it I was in trouble . Strapping !........DH

Red is worth a watch and should be on netflix
gaz

Tried finding it gaz but it werent on there it might appear soon

just saw the new bourne film, thought it was a decent film. the problem for me was that it wasnt jason bourne and thus didnt feel the same. good action sequences and decent acting the problem was the storyline was a bit lame and it didnt tell the story from the beginning rather just picked up halfway through his story.

Anyone seen, at close range, what a good movie
Based on a real story, walken is one of the best
Actors ever.

13 Aug 2012 19:20:26
Any one seen the film driver with Ryan gosling what are ur thoughts/opinions {Ed001's Note - I have, picked it up cheap on blu ray, I can't say I was impressed at all, not a bad film, but defo overhyped. It is just ok. I don't really want to say too much more, it might spoil it if you are intending to watch it, but it was just gloss, style rather than substance.}

Agree, too much posturing and dodgy 80's music, no real point to the film at all. Waste of time

Was going to watch that on netflix tonight you put me off now ed :(

is it the one with carey mulligan in?

curt {Ed001's Note - I had to Google it to see, but yes she is in it. I wouldn't say don't watch, just wouldn't recommend you should watch it. You might enjoy it though, there are far worse films around.}

Carey mulligan is pretty hot so i might have a look

curt

Anyone else really like the look of the movie coming out called "Looper"? Its a Bruce Willis film and I think it looks fantastic.

is starwars any good?

ive seen them when i was younger but i can hardly remember them..

are they worth watching, from 1-6? {Ed001's Note - Ed007 would be having a fit if he saw this! He is a proper Star Wars fanboy! Personally, I think they are amongst the best series of films ever made, the prequels weren't as good as the first 3 though. Luckily for me, my daughter loves them too, so I get to see them all over again.}

Thanks ed, i forgot to sign off last time..

JK92 {Ed001's Note - that's ok. Poor Ed007 is still in shock!}

Lol, i'm gunna watch the first one tonight, ivepersuaded my girlfriend (she's never seen them before either, don't tell ed007)

JK92 {Ed001's Note - I am in utter disbelief too!}

I didn't even know it was possible to get to the age of 10 without seeing at least one of them! Get ready to have your mind blown JK92
KiwiRed

Oh dear ed001 your going to hate me again now

iv never seen any of them lool

curt {Ed001's Note - how can so many people not have seen them? No wonder the world is in such a mess!!!}

Sorry eds and other Star Wars fans, IMHO I think Star Wars is overrated

Captain Kirk {Ed001's Note - that's ok, anyone who finds Star Trek watchable or worthwhile clearly isn't worthy of an opinion anyway ;o)}

Seen your conversations about actors who always put good performances into films . Can I add James Woods and John C Reilly to your list. Any ideas what James Woods is up to nowadays , last time I seen him was in a telly programme called Shark .......DH {Ed001's Note - James Woods is a good shout, I still think of him as a gruff cop alongside Michael J Fox and LL Cool J in The Hard Way. He does a lot of voice work, Kingdom Hearts games he is in and a few animations and the like. He has 3 films in pre-production and 3 in post-production plus is meant to be filming 2 more films and the Coma TV series. So he is still a busy man, though I couldn't think of anything I had seen him in recently myself either!}

Just found out he was in the remake of Straw Dogs . Can't imagine what that would be like . He was top notch in The Onion Fields , Salvador , Once upon a time in America to name but a few..."DH

Anyone know any good films along the lines of, snatch, lock stock, rise of the foot soldier, Harry brown or dead man running? Cheers

Try cleanskin,starring sean bean,very good film

mark d

The crew wasn't too bad with Stephen Graham.

AAR {Ed001's Note - I like Stephen Graham, one of those actors that always puts in a good performance, even if the film or TV show isn't all that good, you can guarantee he will be good in it. There are not many actors you can say that about, Denzel Washington is another, have to say Tom Hardy seems to be getting in to the same category as well.}

Couldn't agree more on all 3, since seeing Tom Hardy in 'Bronson' i think iv'e seen most of his films, most recently the new Batman where he stole the show. Would highly recommend 'Warrior' for anyone who's not seen it.
Stephen Graham is on of the few actors that can play the lovable fool like in 'Dog House' or a total nutcase with his performance in 'This is England'.
And as for Denzel well if anyone can watch 'Training Day' or 'The Hurricane' and tell me a better actor out there i'd like to know.

AAR {Ed001's Note - I was trying hard to think of others like that, but I can't think of any. I love Jackie Chan and Jet Li, but you know what you are getting with them, great at what they do, but they tend to be doing the same thing in every film. Robert Downey Jr is probably the only person I could think of, he always seems to be good in every film, though Wesley Snipes as a baddie, in New Jack City and Demolition Man, is fantastic and has a real charisma, he doesn't seem to really be able to step up like Denzel can, for instance, and take over any film he is in.}

You ever seen dog soldiers.

Robert Downey Jr plays a great bad guy in 'US Marshals' funnily enough with Snipes as the hero. 'Demolition Man' was so cheesy but still managed to be a good film.
The only time iv'e seen someone steal the lime light from Denzel was probably Gene Hackman in 'Crimson Tide', the two of them had a real chemistry.
If your a fan of Chan and Li (to be fair how can anyone not love Jackie Chan) 'Forbidden Kingdom' is worth a watch, not a serious film but there's a fantastic fight scene between the two of them.

AAR {Ed001's Note - I have seen it mate, I have an obsessive love of martial arts films, I have watched thousands of them, from utter dross to greats like Ong Bak and Warrior. I only watched the Expendables because of Jet Li, glad I did though, utter rubbish really, but enjoyable rubbish for all that! Bit like Demolition Man in that respect, not good films, but good to watch, if that makes sense? I suppose that's what is meant by a guilty pleasure, we know it's not good, but love it anyway? Speaking of which, if you enjoy martial arts films, Korea has produced some excellent ones, Arahan is one in a similar sort of vein to Jackie Chan, it doesn't tak itself seriously but is a good watch, in my opinion.}

I was the same with the Expendables and no doubt i'll be the same with Expendables 2. I do enjoy a good martial arts film one actor i really rate is Donnie Yen he was great in 'Ip Man', come to think of it Blade 2 is on tonight he was in that very briefly, maybe to briefly as he didn't get chance show what he's all about, who knows maybe he'd have shown Snipes up too much.
I guess my guilty pleasure would be certain Van Damme films such as, Kickboxer, AWOL or Inferno.

AAR {Ed001's Note - Donnie Yen is excellent, Flashpoint is a brilliant film, in my opinion. I am not a fan of Van Damme, he just annoys me, I like to see skilled martial artists, he has little skill, though I did see a film where he played an assassin recently that was enjoyable. For me, I would say Segal is my guilty pleasure, awful actor, complete knob, but he is damn good at Aikido and I just wish he would go back to the Nico days.}

Was Flashpoint with the 3 brothers?
Segal has some good films Exit Wounds or Under Siege were ok but as you say Nico was his best.
Great movies site you've got here Ed its nice to get away from the football, for some reason the Liverpool site has just got so bitchy and depressing lately.

AAR {Ed001's Note - Flashpoint had Sammo Hung in as the bad guy, I think. I have seen so many martial arts films, they tend to get mixed up a bit! I think Yen played a detective hunting down Hung.
Some of Seagal's recent films have been good to be fair, one where he plays an assassin stands out, I think it was Kill Switch.
The Liverpool site is just suffering due to the club not getting anywhere near expectation in recent years. Once things settle down, it will be fine I am sure.}

I'll have to look out for some of his new stuff, its his boring mono tone voice that puts me off but i guess you could say the same about Van Damme. One action film i'm looking forward to next year is The Chronicles of Riddick 2, i know very cheesy but what can i say Vin Diesel as Riddick is a bad ass.

I know what you mean about the Liverpool site but you'd think people would stick together more during the hard times. Anyway Ed its been good having a bit crack with you tonight enjoy the rest of your weekend.

AAR {Ed001's Note - I didn't enjoy the first one, I am not really a fan of Vin Diesel, he doesn't have real charisma for me.
The problem is that times have changed and people expect everything now, when it doesn't happen, they have no patience and whine like little children. They don't have to work for anything as a child, they have everything given to them, so they have no idea what it is like to go without. Spoilt brats really.}

51st state is a very underrated film class

sam jackson and rob carlie

spanner

Have you seen the raid (redemption) it is in indonsion with english subs but it is a good film i suggest you people check it out especially you ed001 if like martial arts.
huddz red {Ed001's Note - I haven't seen it yet, it does look good. It was directed by a Welsh bloke oddly enough!}

I would say that Johnny Depp is another actor who always puts in a good performance and is very versatile ed001. He is a very good actor in my opinion. Thats about the only other one i can name other than who you guys have said.
KiwiRed {Ed001's Note - I wouldn't put him in there, decent actor, but not top notch for me. He was not that good in the film with Angelina Jolie (the Tourist I think?), in fact the whole film was poor, he did nothing to improve it.}

One of the best martial art films enter the dragon, watched it last night on itv4. class fillm.
huddz red {Ed001's Note - brilliant film, Bruce Lee is truly a legend.}

Agreed about The tourist Ed but in everything else he has been really very good. Particularly in From Hell. As for Seagal, a lot of his fight scenes in his movies are speeded up. My father is a very good martial artist, he was the ocieana champion in taekwondo when he was 30. And then when he was about 40 he coached the New Zealand national team at the asian games. He used to idolize him however he started to notice that most of his fight scenes were in fact speeded up. Which is a real shame, however Bruce Lee is and always will be in my opinion the greatest martial artist on the big screen.
Cheers guys
KiwiRed {Ed001's Note - I know they are speeded up, but that doesn't stop skill being involved. It is like watching those films with the wires, you know it is rubbish, but it doesn't stop it being entertaining. Tony Jaa is awesome to watch, much more my kind of martial arts, Muay Thai, mixed with some amazing acrobatics. As for Depp, I have to say I haven't seen a lot with him in, he tends to make films I don't like. He was good in the POTC films, awful in Public Enemies though, another rubbish film he wasn't good in. That's about all I can think of I have seen with him in, other than some film my daughter watched, Alice or something? It was not my kind of thing either, so I wouldn't judge him on that one as I wasn't really watching.}

Fair enough ed regarding Depp. However regarding Seagal I will respectfully disagree. Martial arts is not just about technique, it is also about pace and speed. Thats why Bruce Lee was amazing, he was one of the quickest around. Yes what seagal does is entertaining but in terms of skill he was lacking. Just my opinion anyway.

KiwiRed {Ed001's Note - I know people who have trained with him, he lacks nothing in skill, he is very much an expert in his field and very quick for his size. Most people dispute his skill because they don't believe Aikido is an effective art, but denying he has skill in it is just wrong. He is very skilled, hence why he began in films in the first place, it was because so many looked down their nose at Aikido. He got it wrong though, the Gracie brothers set up the UFC to showcase their Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and prove its usefulness (even though they had to set the rules deliberately to favour their art to do so), Seagal should have gone down the combat route instead.}

Fair enough ed.
KiwiRed

Way of the dragon.....the final fight between bruce lee and chuck norris is truly epic...
also would recommend both the drunken master movies of jackie chan....also the fight between jackie chan and benny the jet in wheels on meals is truly awesome...must watch martial arts sequences...
also tony jaa in the restaurant scene in the protector would be good shout

taby

p.s where is ed002?

What we need now is a thundercat movie

Oh yes..... That would be quality

Hell yeah thunder thunder thundercats hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
