watched dredd last night, got to say urban nailed dredd. its a fantastic film and urban is a total badass as dredd. the whole i am the law sequence is awesome. the onlt gripe i have for the film is that its a little short at 1hour 35, if it was closer to two hours it would have sorted out a few other niggly bits but overall for me asgood as the avengers or batman. a definitive movie and a must see.
huddz red

I thought it was rubbish to be honest

I am a massive dredd fan and after the 1995 let down i wasnt too optimistic about this, this was dredd tho. awesome awesome film.
huddz red

Decent film although as a comic nerd and with a number of friends who had seen it before myself i actually felt let down. Ok Urban was as good a dredd as you are gonna get but the film was a little light on the story front. The inclusion of anderson was well done and the villan was decent. however them all together was a little lacking. With story lines like andersons 'Satan' or the likes of dredds own 'democracy', 'the day the law died' or even any of the death series i felt there were much better stories to tell.

Not dissapointed but a little underwelmed.

Was much more impressed with the total recall reboot even if it leads to being ridiculed on here.

hey ed or anyone else, what films would you consider as essential purchases on blu ray? Cheers. {Ed001's Note - for me it would have to be action films, anything full of effects that you enjoy. The effects are so much better when seen using a better quality viewing platform. Nothing else really needs the extra quality, though it is better, it just doesn't make any real difference to the enjoyment of the film.}

i finally saw the avengers last night and i've gotta say it wasn't as good as i expected. Think it was over rated or over hyped. Some good references to the other films. I thought the entire fight on the airship went on too long. It did pick up with the final fight but maybe over reliant on cgi. For me the best in the series remains iron man 1 and thor.

When I went to see Avengers I went to my local cinema. When the film ended the majority of people stood up and clapped which is something i have never seen before.
I think like most things if they are overhyped they lose quality.
My personal favourite of the series and I cant wait for the sequel

I watched it last week and didn't enjoy it.

never been a fan of iron man/captain america/thor...

hulk was the only good bit too it.

much prefer batman, xmen and spiderman.

JK92

Imo robert downey junior and mark ruffallo made the film.

BigBear

I too thought it was a big let down

Compared to the hype around the film it was a bit disapointing. Some good interactions and the cast did seem to bounce off each other, Downey, Hemsworth, Ruffalo and Evans all good. Renner a little wooden as usual. Not really sure on Sam L, doesn't seem like his usual role. Johansson was good eye candy. Loki was underused and was much better in Thor. Wasn't much of a story. Stolen device opens portal and nasty aliens come through and start killing everything seems like it was lifted straight from Dr Who. I think the story needed more work. It felt like it was secondary to just getting the team together but you need a story to hold your attention, not just pretty flashes every 10 minutes. The whole fight on the massive airship thing did drag on far too long. Maybe they should have done it as a 2 parter? And stretched it out a bit more, fleshed it out and then they coudl have cleaned up at the box office, part 1 in summer part 2 at xmas?

I thought it was a good film, the hulk was the best one in it and I thought the banter between Thor, iron man and captain America was a bit over used, they argued a bit too much, I agree Loki was better in Thor, I suppose marvel needed to make it though to open more doors for new films. However it was definitely overshadowed by the dark knight rises this year

Would like to remind all off those saying the story was lacking are infact right. The story is lacking as the only point of the film was to establish the avengeers as a 'believable' team.

Alien evasion is a very easy way to open the audience up to the idea of a number of heroes working together. it also allows the stories in the phase 2 films to be more elaborate as the heroes and their relationships with each other are defined now and the introduction of new characters/avengers easier for the audience.

After GotG and thor 2 is out then lots of phase 1 is going to be forgotten as the new stories become alot more expansive and the action willl be bigger and more elaborate.

Avengers was a brilliant intro story for phase 2 and i am sure avengers 2 will be one of the best action films to ever hit the screens.

Best xmas film has to be Bad Santa.
Scouse_Pride

Home Alone?

Die Hard?

Muppets Xmas Carol?

I don't think die hard counts as a christmas film, rather an action film based during the holidays.
sparky

Has to be polar express lol..

i think it is home alone or santa claus with tim allen.

JK92

Bill Murrays Scoorge. Cracking Christmas movie

MM

Saying Die Hard is a Christmas film is like saying killing in the name of by rage against the machine is a Christmas song, both had success around Christmas but neither are Christmas films/songs
LP

It has been a while since i have seen it but isnt Die Hard based around a xmas party that is then interupted by Rickman and his goons?

If i am right then to me that is without doubt the best xmas film.

Just wanting to post an opinion on the subject of brilliant performances by actors... Tom Hardy in Bronson has to be one of the best performances i have seen.

BigBear

Great shout Tom Hardy is probably one of the best actors in England at the moment, i watched Lawless last night and yet again he was great, he's come a long way from a five minute stint in 'Flood'.

But for brilliant performances how about Denzel Washington in Training Day, come to think of it he is brilliant in every film iv'e seen him in.

Or maybe Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting.

always a red

Tom Hardy was brilliant in The Take aswell, cant wait for Max Max - Fury Road!!
Bedford Gooner

What about Michael Shannon, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling?

18 Dec 2012 10:13:31
Watched the Hobbit last night I enjoyed the film but didnt like the way it was filmed it looked like a cheap bbc 1 kids film I though that spoilt it.

Wasn't the hobbit a childrens novel?

JK92 {Ed001's Note - yes it was.}

Jk92 it was. The main thing i want to see is how the hell they've managed to stretch it into 3 films!

De Niro in raging bull, outstanding performance by a legend

I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but couldn't they have just flown the big birds all the way to the mountain? Would have saved lots of wasted time...

18 Dec 2012 01:38:47
just watched the watch and really enjoyed it, anyone else seen it?

One of the worst films of the year

17 Dec 2012 22:14:36
i just noticed something on the new a team that will appeal to geeks. When the rest of the a team break murdock out the asylum. Murdock has the rest of the inmates gathered watching a movie of a van speeding towards the camera right before the rest of the a team come right through the wall in a van. But just before that the film shows presumably the actors names in this film and one of the was Reginald Barclay. Now the geeks on here will know that the original murdock Dwight Schultz had a recurring guest role on star trek the next generation and his character was called Reg Barclay! Honestly someone check it out!

Yep your not seeing things and also if you look in the same bit there's an L T Starbucks (Dirk benedicts character in Battlestar Galactica) and a Tomas B which i'm guessing is George Peppards old Banacek role?

17 Dec 2012 20:41:19
Is the remake of Total Recall any good?

And

is the sam L jackson film Fury anything to do with his Avengers character or is unrelated? The review i read wasn't very clear.

Cheers!

i'm still not convinced on the new star trek. Good casting, great even in some parts. But not a fan of the story. Or even the need to go back to the kirk/ spock era. Just a lack of ideas. Personally i'd rather have seen a new tv series.
