Is I am legend a good movie because I'm thinking of gettin it but I've never seen it

Cheers
{Ed008's Note - Very good film.

Its terrible...... {Ed001's Note - I would say it is not very good or terrible but somewhere inbetween. It is a bit boring at times, only gets going for about 20 seconds, then it is over. Big disappointment for me.}

I thought Will did a good job, carried the film quite well the time he was on his own just with the dog.

I must i was pretty cut up at a certain point in the film, which if you've seen it you know what i mean.

I thought the end was a bit rushed though, like they were just going in circles and had to find some way to end it, but over all i'd say 3 and half stars out of 5.

Mort.

Just read the book.....

I would get the blu ray if you have a player m8 as i thought the alternate ending was much better than the original ending and that is an extra on the disc. i agree with people that the film wasnt the best but like i say the other ending somehow made the film better ...........MovieBuff

Film has some amazing scenes just the acting and story were a little 'rushed' for use of a better word. The original, although dated (1960s?), is still in my opinion a much better film - 'the last man on earth'. There was also a 2nd remake in the 70s called the omega man, with i am legend being the 3rd film adaptation of the book.

As poster above states you should try and get a copy with the altenate ending as a little better in my opinion.

Paso

I'll think on that, i only own 3 blu rays: the dark knight, kingdom of the crystal skull and the colour of magic.

By the way there are a couple of reasons i only own 3 blu rays, 1 is price and the other is i have 100's of standard def, but i'm currently going through them all and discarding some to make space for new (blu ray) purchases and a also need to upgrade some films to blu ray. {Ed001's Note - as soon as you build up a decent blu ray collection you can guarantee a better format will be out.}

Yes Ed agreed thats another reason why i've been holding off, but the main reason has been price. Think i'll go and bag a few essentials for as cheap as possible. {Ed001's Note - always worth going through a site such as topcashback before you buy them, can sometimes get decent money back that way.}

Hows that work? Will have a look ed cheers.

Need a way of flogging off the ones i'm chucking out cant be done with ebay too much faffing. {Ed001's Note - you register with them, then go through their site's links to buy what you want to. They often give you a percentage of your money back when you buy films etc.}

Interesting will have a look

I know we usually talk about the best films we've seen but i was wondering what peoples worst movie experiences were?

I'll put forward:

blair witch 2 (5 us in a cinema, couldn't decide, last time that person got to pick)

wanted (the steaming pile of cack about assassins with angelina jolie, truly awful)

love actually (now yeah bear with me, i thought it was too convoluted, there were just too many couples to try and keep track of, and who was doing what to whom, it was lik they got every british actor who hadn;t done harry potter and just shoved them in a film, if it had been about 4-5 couples rather than the 9-10 i was or maybe it was more it would have been better)

Avatar utter crap.......DH {Ed001's Note - which one? The Cameron 'epic', which was just about special effects, like all his films, or the Last Airbender one, which my daughter had been looking forward to for months only for it to turn out to be dire (and that is being kind!).}

I liked James Cameron' avatar... {Ed001's Note - would have been better if the story had been the main focus, instead of just a bunch of not that impressive special effects.}

The Cameron one was the one I'm on about saw it in 3d nearly fell asleep brain numbing nonsense........DH

I must be the only person around not to have seen avatar, got sick of seeing the trialer and all the hype so didn;t eatch it on principle.

saw the airbender trailer in the cinema and it looked decent, then the name came up at the end of the trailer and half the audience burst out laughing. {Ed001's Note - I used to watch the cartoon on Nickelodean with my daughter, she absolutely loved it (as did I to be fair), but the film was awful.}

The worst for me was paranormal activity 2. I expected alot more after the first 1 but turned out to be as bad as blair witch project

Ed it looked a fairly strange sort of film to be honest. Better missed i think. {Ed001's Note - much better missed, the original cartoon is well worth a watch though.}

I don't get turning cartoons into films, ok i know us 80's kids are the ones with all the cash and are an easily targetable demographic hence a decade of marvel comics as movies, the star wars prequals and even transformers and action force films, as well all go to see what they have done to our childhood, but it shows how creativity has fallen.

The worst i've seen is the old version of 'I Spit On Your Grave' it has to be seen to believe - check out prob the worst acting anyones ever seen!! Gumbo

Eraserhead {Ed001's Note - I had forgotten about that, it was truly dreadful and made no sense at all! I have to add Holy Rollers to the rubbish list, I tried watching it yesterday and realised I was watching the timer count up more than the film. I kept saying to myself that I would give it five more minutes to get interesting, but after 16 min, I realised I was sat watching the clock go up waiting for 20min so I could switch it off! I gave up at that point.}

Should i have heard of either of these films?

Watched The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo english remake last night and found it to be a good watch kept me glued to the screen for the whole 2 and abit hours and not bad acting by Daniel Craig either im quiet looking forward to the next one now..........MovieBuff. I'd give it a 8/10

Isn't there a nasty bit with a pipe in it?

Yes there is and it made me feel a little light headed but it is part of the story of the girl so think it was relavent but if you get the chance watch it i enjoyed it very much.............MovieBuff

Its on the rental list.

If you enjoyed the remake but haven't seen the swedish version i believe you should stop watching hollywood and watch the original.
I have seen both and the girl in american version - rooney mara is a terrible actress, she cannot give the depth of charater to the role that Noomi Rapace can. She successfully gives of the awe of an independent woman but doesn't portray the insecurities she holds.
I can see the american sequels being total garbage as the Blomqvist character becomes a supporting character in the originals but as it is daniel craig i can see other rewrites being put in (there were many rewrites of the story in the 2011 version, although mainly minor).
You may think i am a purist and dont appreciate remakes, and to an extent i am. However if this was a stand alone film i would think it was amazing, yet it does have the originals to be compared to and the revised version falls short.

Also if you watch the originals do not use dubbing as the voices in a dubbed version i had, then quickly deleted, were almost emotionless - subtitles are very good and very close to original script (i am the proud 'owner' of a swedish girlfriend)

Paso

Watched all 3 of the swedish versions m8 and completely agree........MovieBuff

Has anyone seen Dummy, surely the greatest film of all time?

21 Jan 2012 21:17:39
i thought heath ledger was an accidental death. They left it open anyway and after dark knight rises both bale and nolan are leaving the franchise. So its upto their successors on any future joker.

20 Jan 2012 19:49:24
is there going to be a joker in the new batman movie and who is going to play him?
i think heath ledger played him brilliantly and it's a shame he committed suicide, as he was a great actor.

also think the 2 new batmans are probably one of the best movies ive seen (wasn't a big fan of the ones from the 90's and 2000's) but these ones are really good and aren't to cheesy.

Unfortunatly there will be no joker appearance in the dark knight rises. heath ledger did an unbeleivable job as the joker and it is a shame he will not physically feature in the film but his presence will be felt greatly around gotham as the aftermath of the joker, batman and harvey dent showdown has changed everything and looks to be the springboard for the third film.

the nolan films are superior in every way to any batman / comic book movie so far, they are realistic and beleivable!

i cant wait till 20th july

what did people think of the hunger games trailer

anyone

Lol, someone answer the poor guy, he's asked this like 5 times...

i haven't seen the trailer so i can't comment sorry.. {Ed001's Note - I get the impression no one else has either!}

I have, think it looks good, it doesnt give to much away which is a good thing.

matty b

Just watched the trailer, looks pretty good, the trailer reminds me of island (ewan mcgregor) and condemded (by the 1 survivor thing). gunna try and watch this when ever i get the chance.

JK

I was impressed up until the girl came out with "I don't have a choice". That killed the entire trailer for me.

Welsh Dragon

The 2nd was not as good as rubbish - one of the worst films ever

What's everyone's top 5 science fiction movies or Zombie films, infection/disease, etc?

Resident Evil, 28 days later for zombies.

Sci Fi, stuff like star trek, stargate, alien etc etc

Star Wars

Not watched many but my top 4 zombie movies might be
planet terror
28 days later
dawn of the dead (watched remake only)
Dead Alive (watched long time ago and was horribly gruesome and funny but true to its genre)
U.P.

Aliens (all 4), predator (1 and 2) new predator is ok..

Best Sci Fi:
1. Alien - joint top with Halloween as best suspense/thriller ever.
2. Terminator 2 - how has this not been said already?
3. Ghostbusters - Bill Murray - enough said.
4. Twelve Monkeys - Head Feck!
5. Back To The Future 1,2,&3 - brilliant and so original.

Special Mentions: Battle Royale 1&2, Itchy The Killer - for there pure gore fest nature.

Zombie:
1. Living Dead series - Unbelievable.
2. 28 Days Later - brilliant story, brilliant acting.
3. Pet Cemetry - Although not a typical zombie film it is still brilliant if only for the motorbike scene.
4. Shaun Of The Dead - Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg & Nick Frost at their best - check out the 'SPACED' zombie episode for their first attempt at zombies.
5. Zombieland - Bill Murray - enough said.

Paso {Ed001's Note - I think T2 hasn't been mentioned because it is terrible, all special effects and lacking in storyline, just like every Cameron directed film.}

Ed001 i am very disappointed in you. Yeah it was a cheesey hollywood blockbuster, but surely it is THE cheesey hollywood blockbuster. Arnie is without doubt the worst action hero of them all but this film is pure class, and spawned a million and one clones for a reason.

How bout you? What are your top lists in Sci-Fi / Zombie?

To be fair i thought i would be slated for pet cemetry before terminator ;)

To paraphrase a crap actor 'I'll be back as long as you don't ban my posts'

Paso {Ed001's Note - the first Terminator was the only one worth watching, the rest just got gradually worse, Salvation is one of the worst films of all time. I am a Star Wars fan myself, well the original 3 films anyway, though I have to say, having got the blu rays recently and watched them with my daughter, the prequels aren't as bad as I remember. My daughter absolutely loves the 6 of them and has been buzzing about the 3D versions since she found out they were being released. Apart from that I can't really think of any films that stand out for me, maybe the Alien films, but that is about it that I can think of off the top of my head.
The reason I wouldn't slate you for Pet Cemetery is because it is a film I just don't remember one way or the other, I am not into horror films at all, they bore me to be honest.}

My love for horror films comes from a child when i still believed in magical things and what not, but it was the first novel i read and then loved the film, also i am a big Steven King fan.

Agree the Star Wars films are amazing but i thought they transcended any debates about sci-fi in a similar way to Godwins Law, once someone mentions them they lose an argument as it takes all debatable aspects out of the argument ;) also have to say I love all 6 it is just that fecker Jar-Jar being the low point of all the films.

Paso {Ed001's Note - he has to be in the running as the worst character in any movie ever.}

So Ed001, are you saying that Episode 1,2 and 3 are better than T2? Cuz that is crazy talk.... {Ed001's Note - not really, T2 was awful, such a let down because all it consisted of was lots of special effects and terrible acting and storyline. Typical dumbed down Cameron rubbish, made for people lacking in intelligence who just want to be impressed by special effects.}

You have just described Star Wars.... {Ed001's Note - not at all, Star Wars was an opera converted to science fiction to make a kids film. T2 was meant to be for adults, just not very bright ones.}

Terminator 2 is one of the most overrated films ever! It's essentially a family movie with some blood and a couple of robots. The original on the other hand is a sci-fi masterpiece.

Percy

Top 5 sci-fi films....
5 - Dark Star
4 - Stargate
3 - All Star Trek
2 - All Star Wars
1 - The Abyss

Watched War Horse last night and i must say it is one of the best film that i have ever seen. fantastic acting and a great storyline, very long though but kept me pinned to the screen for the whole 2hrs 30mins. Make sure that you have a box of tissues at the side of you coz you will need them trust me. I give this film 10/10................MovieBuff

Why is it a Porno?...Must be cos we know real men dont cry :)

Agree brilliant film i was forced to go alone with my girlfriend and was not expecting to enjoy it but was blown away
will clean up the oscars this year

11 Jan 2012 19:24:14
Highlander, amazing film, great soundtrack, but what the heck were they on when they wrote the rest??

Its called flogging a dead horse,they realised they made a huge mistake by killing off sean connerys character,ramirez and as mccloud was the last one standing they had no where to go and messed about with timelines etc in the follow on films
have heard the 1st one is in line for a remake,just hope they dont mess around with the briliant soundtrack

mark d

Yes mate i've heard about making a remake as well, sounds a bit pointless to me, no doubt they'll mess with the soundtrack as well an no dount are lining up bieber or the jonas brothers as we speak.

I know they only did highlander 2 for the money cos hollywood even then couldn't leave things alone, but its still a mess. Surely there was more mileage in a prequal with Ramirez and/or the Kurgan than that gloop. Ok wouldn't have been any McKLeod, although could have had a cameo or soemthing.

I loved the original highlander but the sequels where awful. Your right about the soundtrack too they should just leave it alone.

After watching the sequel to "the lost boys" (also a great soundtrack) I never want any film to be remade or have a sequel after such a long time, I loved lost boys and the sequel tarnished it for me.

Also I heard the person who is writing the new highlander movie is the woman who wrote those god awful twilight films, that's basically asking for a bad movie.

Ashy

O no please tell me that you were joking in your last line??

I fear that you are not, well we can imagine the mess that film will be then.

Out of the 6 Batmen films so far and the 4 actors to have donned the cape whats everyone favourite?

On Actors i would go:

Bale,
Keaton,
Kilmer,
Clooney.

With films i would go:

Dark Knight,
Batman,
Batman Begins,
Batman Returns,
Batman Forever,
Batman & Robin.

Anyone else? {Ed001's Note - personally I only liked the last two, the rest were awful in my opinion.}

Keatons wasn't bad ed, have to say Kim Basinger and Michelle Pfeiffer we're smoking, something the recent ones have been lacking. The middle 2 were not the greatest, although Nicole Kidman was pretty good too.

I do wonder were there'll go after the next one. {Ed007's Note - Katie Holmes doesn't exactly howl at the moon does she? She makes me want to right enough!}

Bond no, but not the greatest actress either which is why i guess she got dropped, but the replacement wasn't any good.

Anyway Bond whats your take on the films? {Ed007's Note - I think it's hard to chose between Batman Begins and the Dark Knight TBH, I thought they were both brilliant films. I think a lot of people overlook Begins because of the Heath Ledger element in Dark Knight, but if you sit and watch it again you realise how good it actually is all over again. Out of the rest the only decent one was the original Batman, the rest were a bit too much like the programme I watched when I was a pup. Clooney deserves his ar5e skelped and put on the naughty step for his effort.}

Clooney was poor casting really, think that finished the series off. I still bought the boxset in hmv for 8 quid though. {Ed001's Note - Clooney was hardly worse than the first ones. They started off dreadful and went downhill until the reboot, where they finally got it right.}

I thought the first couple were ok Ed. The last 2 were poor. {Ed001's Note - I thought they were amongst the worst films ever made, utter dross in my opinion.}

Come on ed you know you love a bit of Arnie action as Mr Freeze. {Ed001's Note - it is amazing he has made such a good living when he is such a truly terrible actor. Mind he was no better as a governor either.}

I thought he was quite smart as an actor, know what you can do or get away with and charge as much as you can get away with for doing it. can't accuse him of being stupid in that sense.

Can't comment on him as a governer cos never affected me really. Was surprised he went into it, but again smart move, married well.

07 Jan 2012 19:34:07
Finally got around to watching Thir. Brilliant film, much better than Captain America which i thought was a little hyped.

If u mean thor u r right. captain america was just a trailer for upcoming avengers, which i think will be amazing
U.P. {Ed001's Note - I did enjoy Thor as well, not seen Captain America yet, I have never found the character one I have been interested in. Even as a kid into Marvel comics, I just never found the idea of a Captain America appealing.}

Yeah sorry was a typo, meant Thor, should spell check more.

Ed001 i agree with you there, captain america was never appealing as a kid, i preferred iron man and spider man and the x men.

But i really enjoyed Thor, though Branagh did a very good job, could tell he's a shakespeare trained actor/ director. Loki had some serious shades of Edmund and the Odin/ Thor, Odin/ Loki father/ son issues were well handled. Also i liked the casting of Natalie Portman, better than the usual sort of rubbish you'd expect to find in a super hero's romantic role kind of thing.

Captain America wasn't a bad film, casting was again good, i just found it was a little hyped. I was watching it around a mates on the vodka and coke as part of a double bill with the hangover 2, and at parts of the film we were just o please as if. Definitely just a trailer for the avengers but i liked how in both films they link them in together and with the rest of the marvel universe. Loved the Hulk reference in Thor.

Same here ed regarding captain america. The movie too never really takes off not until very last scene. On superheroes movie there's nothing better than batman because of its darkish nature especially the last two batman movies
U.P. {Ed001's Note - I was always a Marvel fan as a kid, never really got into DC at all, but I have to say that the last two Batmans are the best comic book super hero films of all, in my opinion.}

I think Batman is really the most realistic of the lot, cos its just a guy on his own in the field with some hi tech equip. Everyone else is either a radiation mutant or an alien or an experiment. Which is why i'd put Iron Man 2nd on my list. Again just a bloke with hi tech kit.

Just working through the major ones:

Superman: Alien, really dull and overly cheesy.
X Men - Mutants.
Spiderman - Radiation mutant thanks to the spider bite.
Fantastic 4 - Radiation mutants.
Hulk - Radiation again.
Thor - Alien.
Captain America - Experiment.

So personally i'd go Batman, Iron man, Thor in order of perference.

Mort

Mort
Thor is a Norse God, not an alien. In all the comics he is never refered to as an alien in the same vein as Superman is.
Captain America is also a mutant, similar to Spiderman, F4 and Hulk just his mutation was planned.

My favourite is and always has been Superman, ironically I am typing this whilst wearing my S logo T-shirt. This is mainly due to the alter ego. Most others alter ego is a costumed hero yet Supermans alter ego is Clark Kent and I found that brilliant, although this was known to me before I knew of the likes of Martian Manhunter and Thor (who doesn't have an alter ego).

Also those in your list are all Marvel except Superman/Batman.

How do you feel about:
Flash(DC)
Green Arrow(DC)
Cyborg(DC)
Steel(DC) - remember the Shaq film lol
Hawkeye(Marvel)
Deadpool(Marvel)
Daredevil(Marvel)
Aquaman(DC)
Spawn(?MacFarlane)
Punisher(Marvel)
Watchmen(Moore)

Sorry I could go on and on here but I am sure no one wants me to start asking their opinions on Dredd, Slaine and Anderson from 2000ad as well as others - booster gold / hank pymm anyone?

wot did peeps think of the hunger games trailer

05 Jan 2012 23:18:09
Oceans twelve is an awful mess of a film. Did they not bother writing chunks of it and just let them arse around being mates before sticking a thin plot between the buddy scenes. And what the duck is the whole julia roberts thing about? No wonder bruce willis is wondering around looking like he's on a bad trip.

Parts of the film are good, and its always good to see British actors get parts in big budget American films (step forward mssrs Coltrane & Izzard) Plus CZJ is smoking hot in this!

I thought the guy who was the other thief, who dropped them in it was pretty good, and the bit where he dances through the laser beams whilst highly improbable was entertaining.

But yeah Julia Roberts just grates, too smug by far, that whole bit about her having an Oscar? How she every won one god only knows. And Bruce Willis, yes definitely looked like he was wondering what was going on, although anytime Bruce isn't barefoot, in a dirty white vest he looks lost to me.
