GI Joe retaliation is bad, just passing info

Rise of Cobra wasn't exactly going to win any awards but was mildly entertaining.

Ed any new-ish movies (around 2004-present) that you would recommend? Just watched the Impossible (2012) and it's such a great, emotional movie, definitely one I would recommend! So any you would recommend ( that draws you in like the Impossible or any other movies?
Cheers Ed! {Ed001's Note - that really isn't my type of film, so nothing I would recommend would be suited to what you are asking about. Sorry.}

Give zero dark thirty a try, great film, well worth a watch.

PesLegend

Film on channel 4 tonight m8.
KILL LIST.
Watch it if you dare.

FTE {Ed001's Note - did you rate that film then? I got bored of it and switched it off after about half an hour.}

EDY baby we don't all live life in the fast lane. You have to show some patience, the film is a slow burner, but when the killing begins the film hops on the bus to bonkers central.

P. S. Andy Dufresne escapes at the end of Shawshank Redemption.

FTE {Ed001's Note - it was just boring and badly filmed, it never built up any interest, nothing to do with fast lane.}

Ok Ed fair enough. Did you watch the movie Drive? I thought that was a good film but a lot of people I've spoken to just didn't rate it. Your thoughts. {Ed001's Note - I thought it was awful, style over substance and Gosling is a terrible actor, in my opinion. Unless you are referring to the one from the 90s (I think) with Mark Dacascos in the lead role? In which case, I enjoyed that one, it was trash, but enjoyable trash and some good fight scenes. I did enjoy Ill Manors, that is a recent film, just watched it on the movie channel now. That was surprisingly good.}

DACASCOS! FFS! No I wasn't talking about that Drive, but it was a good film, a lot better than it shoulda been. Best Dacascos ever has to be Brotherhood of the Wolf.

Ok i'll just list all what i've seen this month and there might be something.

Tinker, tailor, soldier spy, hunger games, the sweeney, dark knight rises, prometheus, tin tin, doomsday,

O I forgot inception and invictus. {Ed001's Note - Invictus was a surprisingly good film. Especially considering it was about rugby.}

25 Mar 2013 21:45:15
Very good film ed. {Ed001's Note - I have to agree, even though I was really not looking forward to watching it.}

25 mar 2013 23:14:28
what made you reluctant ed? i'll admit i had doubts myself, and i like rugby. that was the tipping point. good cast though, freeman and damon are usually reliable and clint makes some good films so i had no doubts on that angle. i just thought it might get a bit preachy but it wasn't that bad, expected it to get very hollywood. and there isn't that many good sports films around. even the mrs liked it after moaning. {ed001's note - because i don't like rugby. the whole idea of a film about it just filled me with dread, but clint does tend to tell a good story so i gave it a go. glad i did as well.}

26 Mar 2013 13:50:51
There's not even that much rugby, its not like say escape to victory where a huge chunk of the film is the game. The story's are woven around it quite nicely. Shows how sport can be a positive force. I remember watching most of that world cup and how tense the final was. Thought matt damon did well as he's about half a foot too small and had to learn rugby as well. {Ed001's Note - I know there isn't much rugby now, but before I watched it I didn't realise that. I am glad I took the chance to see it though.}

Drive was awful, nothing happened in it!

Kill List could possibly give it a run for its money, and the sound editing was terrible in it, the white noise/tone masked the speech at times, horrible quality. Only thing il give in its favour was the tunnel scene, creepy.

Best films iv watch recently are zero dark thirty and argo.

Toby mandana

How can you say Gosling is a terrible actor? Half Nelson, Blue Valentine, Drive, Crazy stupid love? the man has total range and has been shown that by the Oscar noms he has recieved. I appreciate we all have an opinion but that's madness
Albo {Ed001's Note - all those films are dreadful!}

23 Mar 2013 15:50:48
Watched hansel & gretel it was ok but it wasn't very scary and the film didn't seem very long.

20 Mar 2013 22:44:47
invictus what a film! Had to talk the mrs into it "don't like sports films" so had to trade for some chick flick. Emotional wrecks by the end.

20 Mar 2013 13:01:33
Just saw a movie called 'The Next Three Days' with Russell Crowe and Elizabeth Banks. Hadn't heard of it before, but was an absolute corker. Highly recommend it.

ED what do you think of fight club and seven. {Ed001's Note - not a fan of either personally. They both bored me to the point I switched them off. They tried too hard to be clever, in my opinion.}

20 Mar 2013 17:09:46
Seven is an interesting film, not one you can watch over and over. Probably one of Pitt's better films. Freeman is always reliable. Interesting idea for a serial killer film, interesting motivation. I don't think it could have ended any other way. Fight club I agree with you does try to be too clever but is fairly thought provoking on the things Pitt says. Another of his best roles but again not one you can watch over and over.

Meat loafs pants fall down. best part of movie :)

Ryan

To be fair Meat Loaf wasn't that bad in it, I've seen worse performances.

Seven is one of my favourite films of all time. Great performances by pitt, freeman and spacey, great story with plenty of twists and turns. Still remember the end when the credits rolled downwards, had never seen that ever before on film and it was somewhat unsettling for some reason lol

ok hunger games is pretty good. Talked the mrs into it, no honestly it won't be like battle royale, its hollywood they're not as bloodthirsty as the japanese. Quite enjoyable. Mrs even got upset when the little black girl got killed. Have to say jennifer lawrence is rapidly becoming my favourite actress.

Rip off of battle royale and running man. Watch those two films instead!

Ed have you seen a donnie yen film an empress and the warriors? Picked it up on blu ray for £8 at my local hmv's stock clearance closing down sale. Quite sad really. {Ed001's Note - I haven't seen that, my local one had nothing like that in its stock clearance, unfortunately.}

18 Mar 2013 15:15:52
Shame. It was quite sad. Most of the good stuff had gone and the carcass was being picked over. Felt like a david attenborough voiceover in my head watching teens scrapping over one direction tat. Pretty much all the gone stuff had gone and was down to b movies or the more unpopular stuff. Sad because now the nearest hmv to me is a train ride to birmingham away.

FTE

17 Mar 2013 17:16:52
why is it that tv channels only put on the same films all the while. They'll have one or two films on for a period say four weeks and they'll show it three times a week. Then swap films for a month before going back to the first film. All the films ever made and its the same lot on repeat.

I'm guessing you mean free-to-air rather than subscription tv. It would have something to do with the rights and royalties mate. A tv station would buy the rights to a movie and have it for a certain period of time, once that time period ends, they would have an option to extend. By viewing ratings they get a fair idea of which movies still attract viewers and which are waining. As a movie gets older the royalties I can only imagine would begin to decrease, so all tv execs would way up all those kind of stats.

They will also try and push movies with actors in them that are relevant to where you are eg Denzal Washington doing a speaking tour in Calcutta, so a lot of Denzel movies in Calcutta over that time period. It's annoying for the regular viewer but there is sense to the
madness.

Best actor currently around is Gary Oldman.

Yeah I actually think he's a good actor too

Brilliant in dracula.

I love him as Jim Gordon {Ed039's Note - If that is your favourite Gary Oldman performance then you really must watch Dracula)

Drexyl Spivey in True Romance.

FTE

20 Mar 2013 17:01:23
If you want a finely nuanced performance from Gary Oldman watch Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Its shocking that it was his first oscar nomination.

If were talking gary oldman performances, his role in leon blows every other one here out the water. Brilliant actor

Peslegend

Re ed039:
I posted that I love I'm as Jim Gordon but my favourite performance by him ever is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
I'll watch Dracula at some point this week.

next year looks like the 1 for the big film releases ie Robocop, Jurassic park 4, Amazing spiderman 2, Transformers 4, Dawn of the planet of the apes, The hobbit part 2, Mad max, Godzilla, Jumanji and Masters of the universe.

Robocop could be good, but it won't, JP4 will have people being chased by dinosaurs, big deal, Spiderman will suck big time, Transformers 4! Don't even know where to begin with that, Ape Planet might be interesting, The Hobbit will definitely be at least good, Mad Max, Godzilla and Master of the Universe will all be 3 starrers at best and only because of FX.
Jumanji! Did you mean to type that?

FTE

Mad max will be good I reckon, Tom Hardy is a top actor and will suit the role well.

BigBear

Yeah there making a reboot of jumanji

My top 5 movies to see this year are:

oblivion
the hobbit
after earth
jurassic park 4 (if it is this year)
worldwarZ

JK92

Jurassic parks next year

Been a fan of zombie films since watching Dawn of the Dead at the grand old age of 6, so I was really hoping for something special from World War Z but a have to say the trailer did not really fill me with much hope. I think the zombie tidal wave scene kinda killed it for me.
Then again it might be amazing.

FTE

12 Mar 2013 21:17:49
the remake of tinker tailor soldier spy is pretty good.

10 Mar 2013 21:30:29
good film on now, limitless

Yeah it was a good film that.

09 Mar 2013 22:16:22
After having just seen Mama in the cinema as well as Sinister a few months ago. I've come to the conclusion that scary films are actually getting scary again. Are they?
P. S. Evil Dead looks kinda scary too.

FTE {Ed039's Note - I havent watched a horror movie for a long time. The Final Destination franchise put paid to "horror" movies for me I'm afraid)

I don't know about that, I think some horror films just resorting to loud creepy music suddenly blaring out like Insidious. I think ideas must really be running low because of the amout of home movie (blairwitch, paranormal activity) style of horrors being made, which do my nut in.

Evil deads were classics hopefully they don't ruin it.

The problem with horror now is there is no imagination it is simply a case of how much special effects can we cram in nowadays. The first paranormal activity was the most enjoyable horror film I had watched in a while because you couldn't see what was tormenting the victims made it much more sinister and creepy, also the way they done it with the cameras set up while they slept made your imagination run wild because it made you think, this kind of stuff could be happening while I am asleep and I wouldn't even know. That imo made it enjoyable. Now however they have done it to death like most horror films that achieve any form of success.

BigBear {Ed039's Note -Good point, I think thats why the original Poltergeist was so good as well, you couldnt see the tormentor and had to use your imagination, although I am a fan of old fahsioned horror, the original Halloween was immense, but got ruined by Rob Zombie)

I'm a big fan of Guilermo Del Torro, his films are amazing and a bit scary.
LP

10 Mar 2013 16:11:10
This is a point I keep making. There is no imagination anymore. Not just in horror specifically but in film in general. Its all about effects and how much money you can throw at computer guys and how many pixels they can generate. And as those costs rise so does the desire to get the money back by churning out endless remakes and sequels with a lack of imagination because they know that fans of the first in the series will go watch the rest no matter that all the imagination and other things that made it unique have long been stripped out. The greatest film of all time: Forest Gump.

No. The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

FTE

08 Mar 2013 23:23:53
Nope Gump's got everything. Makes you laugh, makes you cry. Deserved that oscar.

Yup that's true but after watching it twice you've seen everything it's got to offer. So it's still a no from me.

FTE

09 Mar 2013 10:44:05
Isn't that true of most films though.

Yes it is true about most films and at the end of the day it comes down to your own preferences. Forrest Gump is a fine film.

FTE

The Departed for me.

BigBear

Aliens. Best movie ever

CT13 {Ed039's Note - Shawshank Redemption ............ or Bloodsport lol)

Predator or terminator: judgement day 4 me

Aliens for me as well.

JK92

What no love for Howard the Duck?

Wizard of oz, every time.

Anyone remember a film called captain orgasmo

03 Mar 2013 10:19:13
Ocean's 11 now that's a modern classic. Great film, good story, good cast. Only bad point is Julia Robert not really a fan but not sure who could have replaced her. Shame they mucked it up with the sequels.

13 was on last night, not a bad film but tries to be too clever.

Much better than 12 though. 12 is total garbage.

01 Mar 2013 19:26:52
Apropos of nothing
One of my favourite films ever
In The Heat Of The Night

Chris in Tamworth
