i'm still not convinced on the new star trek. Good casting, great even in some parts. But not a fan of the story. Or even the need to go back to the kirk/ spock era. Just a lack of ideas. Personally i'd rather have seen a new tv series.

what do people think of watchmen?

I really enjoyed it, i dont think its fair to compare it to the comic book. Good cast good performances 8.5/10 for me!

Its long and its basically two halves, first half all story second half is all action. jekyll and hyde film.

Looks good but i've never actually seen it all the way through, i either catch it half way through and miss the start, or catch it from the start but it finished too late to sit up till 1 am on a sunday/ monday to finish it all.

Whats your top five films you enjoyed that were released this year? No particular order mine is : Looper, Skyfall, Dark Knight rises, Moneyball, 50/50

Loved the graphic novel, thought the film done it justice in many aspects. Casting was superb too, cant think of one bad performance in there, and each actor/actress brought the characters to life, they were how I imagined they would be/sound. 9/10

Has anyone seen Killer Joe yet? In two minds to watch, could be good, has had decent write up's but im still unconvinced.

Not watched it but supposed to be good, matthew mccoughney can act he just doesnt do it very often or doesnt get the roles

although they are in the same universe as alien they have nothing to do with each other.. prometheus is a prequel based on a completely different storyline..

i want to see a sequel to alien.. not some spin off prequel.

what movies would people like to see made, eg sequel or a movie based on a game..

id like to see:

- another alien movie, maybe a trilogy.
- Jurassic park trilogy..
- Lord Of The Rings trilogy
- Halo Movie, maybe 4 of them, story too big to be told in 1 or 2 movies..

I don't think there's much mileage left in Jurassic park tbh, 2 & 3 were average.

Prometheous and sequels willo be new Alien trilogy.

Lord of the Rings, well there is the forthcoming Hobbit trilogy.

If done right devil may cry/ ninja gaiden.

Yes i am well aware that the the Hobbit happens before Lord of the Rings, however in the in world universe chronology Lord of the Rings is the last event, there is nothing after it so there could be no sequel.

But it's fictional... make something happen after it...

Its also a copyrighted work of art, so you can't just "make something up" because its fictional.

What exactly would you want anyway? Lord of the Rings finishes the whole saga off, the last physical source of pure evil (Sauron) is destroyed, there is no enemy left to fight, only bands of orcs.

The appendixes in the book do fill in some events of the later years but its mainly how mnay kids Samwise and Rosie have and what dates the members of the fellowship die or take ship to the Undying lands.

Tolkien did start to write a sequel, realised there was nothing left to do after the fall of Sauron and so went back to working on his Early Tales which after his death his son Christopher collected together and released as the Silmarillion. The Sil is basically unmakeable as a film even as a trilogy and would be a struggle as a tv series.

Enjoy the Hobbit when it comes it out.

if you could remake any movie you wanted what would it be?, eds included in this question. for me it would be predator 2. it could be done so much better now, especially if the predator was hardly seen.

Haha Ed i agree, but i'd remake the lost. As we said the other get Anakin's age right in the first one it improves it no end, and makes the other 2 better as well, and you'd have to remake 2 & 3 as well as one. I would go further and remake 4,5, & 6 as well as i think the prequels created too many inconsistancies.

Back to the original question, i'd like to see a remake of Jaws think that could be good. {Ed001's Note - I would hate to see a remake of Jaws, the original one was responsible for creating false beliefs regarding the Great White Shark. I love sharks and they are still killed with little regard for the truth because people think they are mindless killers. Even Peter Benchley acknowledges the damage he did and spent many years campaigning against their slaughter after the release of the film.}

Some of the older gangster films like the godfather or scarface might be good if they were remade

Woah, woah, woah. I agree phantom menace could use some work, but the original trilogy, scarface and godfather trilogy are all very near perfect for me! (fair enough godfather III was ropey at points but still!
Think this whole reboot thing sucks, lazy writers and tightwad producers are mostly to blame imo.

Liono no disrespect but you think the original trilogy is perfect? This is what i mena when viewing them through the lenses of childhoof, they are not perfect and there is a lot of things wrong. Admittedly a lot of that is down to the prequel trilogy which is what i mean by remaking them and straigtening them all out.

The problems i have:


Episode 1.

Jar Jar Binks, the worst character ever.

Anakin being that young when discovered and the all "he's too old to train" when you see younglings the same age in the next 2 films. As said before would have worked better as a stroppy arrogant teen in the first film then the councils reluctance would have made more sense, and his relationship with Padme would have worked better.

The droids "roger roger"? Really?

The fact that the future Vader built C3P0.

Episode 2.

The whole forced relationship between Padme and Anakin, it just doesn't feel natural.

The Yoda/ Dooku fight, or more the bit where Yoda comes shufflig in on his stick like he is 800 years old then bounces around like he's had too many blue smarties before he's back on the stick panting. Maybe it was supposed to be a refelction of his great age and how the Force helped him through the fight but to me it just seemed off.

Episode 3.

The whole fall of Anakin being rushed like it was. It went from good Jedi to doubts about the Jedi to OMG Your the Sith Lordand telling Windu back to doubts to whoops i've just helped kill Master Windu to OK your the boss and i'm off to slaughter the younglings to out and out evil. No one turns that quick in a matter of hours like in the film. It should have been spread out across the 2nd half of Episode 2 to the first half of Episode 3.

Episode 4

C3P0 - the 2nd most annoyong character he really gets on my tits during the first act especially when him and Artoo make it to Tatooine.

The whole love triangle between Han/ Leia/ Luke and the discussion between Han and Luke where their feeling out if the other is interested in Leia. Hans: "You think a girl like that would look at a scoundrel like me" Just to gauge Luke's reaction and see if he is, and Luke very clearly is. Ok he doesn't know that its his sister, and back in the 80's nor did the audience but now it just comes off as very wrong.

The Empires tactics in sending just the Death Star off after the rebel base with no escort what so ever. Its only weapon is 1 massive laser that takes ages to fire, something like that should have had a couple of Star Destroyers in attendance as well.

Episode 5.

Ok the assault on Hoth looks cool as a kid but again how lame are the Imperials? All that resource and they attack with a weapon that any sensible military engineer would reject. A tank on lega that probably cost 1000's and their taken out by some 2 bob speeders with a washing line. The whole of Rogue Squadron probably cost less than 10% of ATAT. This is probably the point as its the Rebels we are supposed to be cheering for and as a rebellion its on shoestring but the Walkers are a really poor weapon in that they can get taken out that easily.

C3P0 again, annoying all the way through, I cheered when he got blasted at Cloud City.

Episode 6.

Leia's dialogue about remembering her real mother and how she always seemed sad, contradicted now by Episode 3.

Ewoks. Purely there for merch sales.

Walkers again useless. The AT in the title is supposed to be for all terrain, look at them!


There are probably more if i sat and went through all 6 films.

As i have said before i do like Star Wars, but there are issues in the films, largely created by the prequels, that need addressing. At times it feels like the story was cobbled together rather than the supposed master arc that Lucas claims to have.

O and i do agree with you on the Godfather that should be left alone, 1 and 2 are pretty much perfect and i couldn't see anyone else playing characters like Vito, Sonny, Michael etc etc. Ok 3 was as you said a bit ropey but most of that is down to Coppola's daughters terrible acting.

Scarface on the other hand could work as an updated version set in todays drug trade.

Ed ok get your point re Jaws, totally agree. I just like the story and the dynamic when its the 3 of them alone on the boat battling nature, you don't see many films that feature that sort of dynamic anymore. Maybe you could do it but really hammer home the conservation message at the same time, have big arguments between the Quint and Hooper characters maybe? {Ed001's Note - I don't know, I just don't want to see more sharks slaughtered because most people are too stupid to tell the difference between a film and reality.}

No, no, no, no to any remake of 'Jaws'! You can just imagine some shut in the States saying "Why don't we improve its cross gender demigraphic and make Hooper or Brody a woman!"
