Went to see Ant Man the other day. It was pretty good. I don't think the script was as strong as other marvel films. Michael Douglas was cast brilliantly. Evageline Lily still baffles me. I don't personally think she can act to save her life. but she got the nod in this role and for me it didn't pay off,especially with the terrible wig,the whole step dad storyline seemed a little forced too and either needed more depth to it or to be dropped.

Overall,I thought the action was good, and Michael Pena and Paul Rudd produced the good comedy moments we expect from the Marvel films today. The special effects with the ants and use of ant mans abilities was good.

I think i'd class it as a good family watch, and would buy it on dvd to go into the collection but it's not a film I could watch over and over. like I have Thor or Avengers,I'd just break it out once every 2 years or so

{Ed001's Note - so better off waiting to watch at home rather than spending the money to go to the cinema to see then?}

30 Jul 2015 08:45:17
I'm not sure of prices out there ed. But yeah I'd say so. It doesn't need to be on the big screen to be enjoyed for me. at £24 for 2 seats to watch it in the UK i'd advise waiting for the blu ray and dvd

{Ed001's Note - £24?? That is daylight robbery. They complain about piracy then rob people blind themselves. If they charged a fair price, then people would go to the cinema more and download less.}

01 Aug 2015 16:29:47
Cripes where's your cinema? Mind you last time I went, which was a couple of years ago the price had gone up from £8 to £10. Add in drinks and anything your eating and double it if its a date and its cheaper renting it and getting a takeaway and bottle of plonk.

03 Aug 2015 09:27:29
It was in leeds vue cinema. wasn't even in 3D! £11.75 a ticket.

It's getting ridiculous the prices of cinema tickets. I think they will change from movie to movie depending how much the movie makers charge the cinemas for showing it. Marvel know they're onto blockbusters with every single one though.

I think it might get to a point where the cinema industry has to take a look at itself complaining about dvds being torrented when they're charging £15 for basic new release dvd and even more for blue ray and £12 for cinema tickets. The rise is unsustainable and smacks of hypocrisy when they claim they'rindustry is ruined by people making copies.

{Ed001's Note - if they charged a fair price, most people would be happy to pay and pirating would go back to being a minor industry. I am quite sure they must have some way to make money out of pirating, or they would make sure that they killed the market for it.}

03 Aug 2015 21:59:19
Yeah its crazy. 12 just to get through the door is bad enough but look at the prices, drinks, ice cream, sweets, hot dogs, etc etc mounts up. Now its the summer holidays an I feel for them with kids. Ok the prices aren't so bad ticketwise but imagine taking 2-3 kids.

06 Aug 2015 19:03:14
You guys really just come to India. Even if you go to like the poshest theatre max will be 5 pounds including popcorn and drinks.2.5 pounds is the ticket price

12 Aug 2015 22:45:53
In Northern Ireland tickets range from £3(student) to £8(3D) at most cinemas so I go quote regularly. I'm from Brighton originally and tickets were £6(student) up to £13(3D). Don't get how prices can be so different in the uk for the exact same service. In a Cambodian cinema tickets were about 70p and you got a sofa!!

18 Jul 2015 07:56:22
Finally found the time to catch Minions. What a disappointment 😢

{Ed001's Note - that bad?}

18 Jul 2015 08:19:46
Yup ed. I almost considered walking out at interval. Last film that disappointed so much was Annabelle . It wasn't that bad particularly but the fact was that the despicable me films were so good minions was a huge disappointment

{Ed001's Note - I haven't actually seen them so I won't be disappointed by that. Never heard of Annabelle either.}

18 Jul 2015 10:15:51
I'd really recommend the two despicable me movies. Annabelle was thr spinoff to the conjuring. Based on a true story. The story's the real one is a bit freaky

{Ed001's Note - not seen the Conjuring either, doesn't appeal to me at all to be honest.}

19 Jul 2015 15:20:25
Ed001
Each to his own i guess. Found some scens from the Conjuring genuinely scary. P.s ed you'll be signing up for the fantasy league?

{Ed001's Note - I don't have time for it mate, been a bit busy trying to find a place to live, oh and getting engaged =o)

19 Jul 2015 16:37:21
Congratulations buddy. It would only take ten minutes mate. The time you would waste daily looking for Ed025 since he's gone AWOL

{Ed001's Note - we never look for Ed025, you can hear the women screaming and just head to where they are running from and, hey presto, there is Ed025. I might do it if I get time, but I doubt it was I am starting a project with my daughter, as she wants to be an illustrator we are going to do an online comic together. She is going to do the artwork, while I do the scripts, so I need to get some scripts written for her to work on.}

19 Jul 2015 16:46:31
Good luck with that buddy. Plain old stories or something specific?

{Ed001's Note - depends on what she wants to draw, she has talent I would like to encourage it. The best kind of art comes from what is done for pleasure, in my opinion. So I am going to try and write with the aim of giving her things to draw she will enjoy doing.}

19 Jul 2015 17:20:47
Good for you. Good luck

14 Jul 2015 19:40:27
Anybody seen the suicide squad trailer looks very good.

Wasn't to keen on jared leto playing the joker (massive fan of heath ledgers joker) but got to say he looks very good

{Ed001's Note - when is that out? I would like to see that.}

14 Jul 2015 20:18:35
Not sure ed it's only saying 2016 atm.

{Ed001's Note - they take so long to get films out these days. By the time they appear I have forgotten about them!}

14 Jul 2015 23:39:59
its on youtube ed001. comicon is when all the trailers get released.

There's a new trailer for dawn of justice too that 3 minutes long and looks insightful to the storyine.

There's an evil dead one if that was ever your thing.

Deadpool's looks ok

{Ed001's Note - I remember when the original Evil Dead was banned in the UK and you had to get it from the local video store under the counter. I was only about 11 when I was left alone in the house to watch it.}

15 Jul 2015 08:27:39
It does look to be in the same mould as the old evil deads, a sort of comedy caper with raw violence. Should be better than all those jump scare movies we get now.
You have nightmares for a fair while ed?

I remember watching Critters when I was 5/6 I didn't sleep for weeks. My gran put it on the vhs system thinking it was going to be like gremlins.She was gravely mistaken.

{Ed001's Note - I was in Bootle, you see worse than that down the jiggers! I can remember nan hearing a knocking on the gate while hanging the washing out in the back yard and opening the door to find just a pair of feet swinging. Some guy had been hung/hung himself right outside.}

16 Jul 2015 02:51:05
That sounds creepy ed. Your ex boyfriend was ? 😉 the only movie in recent times which has had me scared is the conjuring. And that too mildly

{Ed001's Note - I fell asleep watching that, never did get to see the end.}

16 Jul 2015 09:17:28
Must have been quite harrowing for your nan that. Or was she part of the stiff upper lip generation and never mentioned it?

I think the best scary/horror movie I've seen in recent years is the descent.It uses jump scares but has a scary plot too and plays on some ones fear of darkness and tight spaces.

{Ed001's Note - she was used to it mate, she was a nurse all her life and during the Blitz she would be tasked with a bucket to go out collecting body parts left in the rubble, as Bootle was the most bombed area of England during it. She used to tell one story over and over about how they had to put a toe tag on each of the bodies in the morgue afterwards. One day they had a guy with no arms and legs and, well I will leave you to figure out where she put the tag!}

16 Jul 2015 11:26:08
You think you could try and imagine living in those times,but you just can't. The tragedies and horrors,unsuspecting and unprepared people must have seen.
My dad still has the Diary of his grandad and great uncle from the front line in world war 1. Some of the stuff written in it you wouldn't believe. He drew a lot of what he saw as an expression of the emotion,personality growth(removal) and violence he witnessed. As a way of venting I guess. I certainly got a picture of why older generations have the attitude they have from what I read and saw in his diaries /pictures

{Ed001's Note - they would be great reads, have you ever considered getting them published?}

16 Jul 2015 12:06:14
It had never crossed my mind. I see them as my dad's property. They're still up in an old wooden case in the attic I think apart from 2 pictures he has in the hallway. When I'm next home in Wales I'll speak to him about it.
A lot of people mention the pictures when they come round,so probably worth looking into if other people would be interested.

{Ed001's Note - it would be a good time to do so with it being 100 years since WW1.}

16 Jul 2015 13:45:05
Yes definitely a good time with all the anniversary stuff.

My nan was in Coventry at the aircraft factories during the blitz.

{Ed001's Note - your nan? For some reason I thought you were older Mort1, must have you mixed up with another Mort.}

16 Jul 2015 15:24:50
Mort the merrier

14 Jul 2015 14:14:21
Are there any movies that cover the African part of WWII? Preferably recent as I've seen most if not all the older war movies, you know, the good ones lol.

I'd like to see the battles between Monty and Rommel, it seems to be undercovered, yet was one of the most violent and devestating area's of WWII. Tank battle after Tank battle after Tank battle. It could make for an epic movie series, given the right director and writers.

{Ed001's Note - I have not heard of any or I would be watching them myself, as my grandad was out there in the tank battles.}

14 Jul 2015 14:40:15
Yeah my great Uncle Alf was out there for a while, he then got moved to the 22nd Armoured Brigade and was unfortunately killed by Michael Wittman(very well known Tiger ace) in the Battle of Villers-Bocage. He was one of the unfortunate souls to be in a Cromwell Tank, instead of a Sherman Firefly.

{Ed001's Note - my grandad was one of Hobart's Funnies. Not so sure a Cromwell is so bad, Shermans were rubbish, they were nicknamed Ronson because they always went up first hit (Ronson was a brand of cigarette lighter). Even the Firefly was no match for a Tiger.}

14 Jul 2015 16:43:05
Germans called the Sherman tommy cooker, things were death traps. The firefly improved it by giving it some punch but in a 1 on 1 with a tiger its no contest unless you've got surprise, a free hit and your behind it.

I've been to villers bocage and strolled down whitmanns route. Also home of the best steak I've ever had. Yes it was horse.

{Ed001's Note - my grandad was the first tank in Belgium and got invited in to eat with a Belgian family. They were eating the meal and me grandad said it was the best meat he had ever tasted, so he had to ask them what it was. It was the family dog.}

14 Jul 2015 18:34:59
Oh I realise that the armour of the Sherman was useless, and the Tommy Cooker was because they were using Petrol, hense why they always went up in flames. However, the positioning of the Sherman Firefly's different to the Cromwell Tanks, they were further up the route and it was those that dismantled Whitmanns tank, where he eventually fled to the nearest German outpost.

14 Jul 2015 21:47:28
Lol ed, in fairness that was probably the first they'd had in months. Weren't the Dutch reduced to eating tulip bulbs?

Regards war films the African campaign is as much neglected as Burma. There's little interest in Britain sadly and the Americans only concentrate on their own and as they hardly did anything in Africa it'll continue to be ignored.

{Ed001's Note - even at the time Burma was known as the 'forgotten war' or something like that. I think Africa and Asia are slightly swept under the carpet as it was not the same as rescuing people from oppressors and giving them freedom, like in Europe. It was replacing one imperial overlord with another.}

14 Jul 2015 23:04:17
Man talking about all this makes me want to hunt down those Jerries on Company of Heroes.

There is nothing better than taking 10 Churchill AVRE's accompanied by 50 Squads of Bren Gunners and Piat Sappers into Lyon and steam rolling the Wehrmacht and Panzer Elite forces.

15 Jul 2015 13:31:25
True i had a great uncle who was in Burma, and another in the navy that served on the Russian convoys, both forgotten campaigns.

I did hear a rumour that Spielberg was buying up options on books for another series, this time on the 8th air force. Not sure if there's any legs to it but at least the Americans bother.

{Ed001's Note - the Americans pretend it is not imperialism though, so it is ok that they ruled over all these other countries and still do so. Whereas the Europeans, now they have lost the empires, are embarrassed by them and what they did to the subjugated people. I am sure if Britain still had an empire, it would be busy making propaganda films about how great it is to have one as well.}

15 Jul 2015 18:19:30
True Hollywood is just a propaganda arm, but seeing shows like band of brothers does encourage people to look into things. I've got friends who have seen band of brothers and its got them interested but they know nothing of our own involvement.

16 Jul 2015 01:33:18
I still remember all the stories my Grandparents told me, of both the second world war and the Falklands(my dads side). It would also be interesting to see something on the Eastern front. Could show how the Russians fought tooth and nail for Stalingrad and how they went on the offensive from there. Would be interesting to see if they include the Polish massacre though. Wasn't it something like 8,000 Polish resistance fighters were massacred because they refused to take orders from the Soviet Union?

14 Jul 2015 10:35:51
Slightly different topic, but anyone else think that American Psycho had one of the best soundtracks to it?

If not, what's your favourite?

14 Jul 2015 11:16:35
Transformers the movie 1986 version. Seriously.

{Ed001's Note - I loved that film! Used to sneak into the cinema every night with mates to watch that.}

14 Jul 2015 13:24:49
Its quite a rocky soundtrack too for a kids film. And the incidental music too by Vince di cola.

14 Jul 2015 13:43:15
I use that soundtrack for the gym Mort

14 Jul 2015 13:57:06
I think one that has to be up there at the moment, is Guardians of the galaxy. They embedded a sotryline in a film around a soundtrack used in the movie and for me it was really on point and was well delivered in every scene.

Another which will depend on your type of music could be The One with Jet Li,basically an angry film with lots of martial arts fighting,where simply angry heavy rock was used in most fight scenes,It worked really well for me,watching it as a teenager.

{Ed001's Note - Guardians is a great shout, it was a really good soundtrack for the film.}

14 Jul 2015 16:45:17
Vince di cola also did rocky 4. The two soundtracks are quite similar.

Guardians is a great shout. I annoy the neighbours with hooked on a feeling on repeat.

14 Jul 2015 17:34:42
Guardians of the galaxy. Enjoyed furious 7's track specially that one get low was it?

14 Jul 2015 19:37:11
Lost Boys is one of my fave soundtracks

08 Jul 2015 18:13:00
So how many of you'll be watching ant man? Just not feeling up for it. Think marvel are harming MCU with introducing new characters right now that too so many

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure on this one, I have no idea who Ant Man is, so it is difficult to get excited about it. I will see it if the missus wants to watch it, I guess.}

08 Jul 2015 21:53:57
I'll watch it but I think marvel should go the way the latter batman movies have. Darker, less comical then I think they'll be much more bearable to watch.

Although I did really enjoy guardians of the galaxy

{Ed001's Note - so what is Ant Man?}

09 Jul 2015 16:35:43
A man gets to wear this suit that shrinks him to the size of an ant obviously he's very strong as ants are supposed to be and I'm not overly sure on the plot.

Oh and his arch nemesis is what I can only Imagine his name being wasp man.

There's a scene on the trailer of ant man v wasp man fighting and a train is hurtling towards them and crashes into them. it's a child's toy train!!!

Sounds good don't it?

I will watch it as I do all marvels but I can't help feeling it's going to majorly fail.

{Ed001's Note - I remember being similarly sceptical about Guardians of the Galaxy and yet ended up enjoying that immensely. Hopefully Ant Man will be the same, but it doesn't seem good.}

11 Jul 2015 12:26:19
I hope to god Marvel doesn't go too dark and deathly. Their characters on the main even in the comics were meant to be cock sure of themselves and it was aimed at a younger audience for laughs and heros.
I think we all learned from the fall out of man of steel going ''dark'' doesn't make a good film. The fallout of the comicon types to the death of zod was pretty large as well as Superman showing a violent streak when zod touches his mother.

I think what has made amrvel much more successful so far than DC has been its ability to have childish frolics for the young audience and in jokes for adults. EG the use of a dancing groot that can only say 3 words that kids love,then jokes such as Quill mentioning the jackson pollock painting.

I think the only chraracter where maybe you'd want to go down a more adult themed path would be the hulk. (I don't think they planned another movie in stage 3. He walked away from black widow,attempted suicide and is a character that for me offers little in the way of humourous dialogue.

Any way back to Ant Man. I think it looks good. I don't think Rudd(great comedy actor) would have jumped on board and helped write/act this if it didn't have potential. I'm unsure of the appointing of evangeline lilly. She wooden for me,but michael douglas should bring some acting heat. I'll certainly go see ity as I think almost every marvel film has been spot on.

14 Jul 2015 23:06:01
Just seen the TV advert for it, looks hilariously bad. But then again, I've never really been a fan of comic-book movies.

The Avengers was only just watchable for me, The Dark Knight movies were Ok but the rest I felt have all been sub-par, especially fight scene in Man of Steel.

{Ed001's Note - you didn't like the second Captain America?}

15 Jul 2015 12:40:24
I haven't watched the Captain America movies, they just don't interest me. Comic book movies never really have.

I just don't understand why they have to wear a silly costume, why can't they just wear a mask and be normal looking? Why do they have to stand out like they do, wearing a pair of tights and a silly mask >_

{Ed001's Note - because they are super heroes and the point is to mark them out as beacons of hope in a sea of hopelessness.}

15 Jul 2015 13:09:05
But why do they have to look so stupid?

I mean who wears their underpants over their trousers? Seriously!

And Batman, with all that money and technology, he couldn't create a voice changing device? Instead of grunting like he was auditioning for a Death Metal band.

I don't know, I guess I've just lost the inner child in me.

{Ed001's Note - you do sound a bit grumpy! They are fantasy, does it really matter? You have to suspend credulity when you watch most films these days, it is poetic license taken to the nth degree, so the least of it is the fact they have underpants over their trousers. After all Ed025 wears his like that every day and has done for over 75 years now.}

18 Jul 2015 08:35:38
On a related note the winter soldier watched that for the 6th time. Still effing love it

{Ed001's Note - I really like that one, even though I have never liked Captain America.}

07 Jul 2015 14:58:58
Found it Ed001 ignore me!

{Ed001's Note - erm....}

07 Jul 2015 14:56:36
Not sure where to ask or if I've just stupidly missed it, but any tv shows board Ed or is this sort of it?

07 Jul 2015 08:30:49
As I was blisfully ignorant to a lot of these sites for a fair while I've started going through every one to see what I can learn. Some great movies listed on here that I'e been encouraged to watch.

I thought I'd open up with a different question than maybe has been asked before as my first post(Not including replies)

Are there any Games or books you've read or played,that you think would be turned into a classic film? feel free to elaborate on directors and actors too if you like :)

I personally think Halo as a game could be turned into a money maker for hollywood.

One I would love to see played out on the big screen is from a game Iplayed when I was younger called homeworld. It was such an immersive storyline about getting an advanced alien race home who have no memory of their past after a great war. It felt a lot like battlestar galactica, but with a better script.

{Ed001's Note - the problem is that so many have been tried and ruined, it is off putting. Games wise I would have said Wing Commander otherwise! Homefront, not the Statham film which is good as far as Statham movies go, but the game, could be a good film, if only film makers could be trusted. All the Warhammer stories, whether fantasy, 40K or Horus Heresy, could be made into excellent films, as the main thing Warhammer have built is a whole background universe which is truly immersive. In fact it is so good that Warhammer authors are being hired by major gaming brands to create a background universe for their brands, such as League of Legends. Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit could have been good, but they were awful, so I am beginning to think that I would prefer them not to ruin the best books or games by making films from them.

So I would suggest something by David Eddings, as they are not great books, though very readable, and so it would not be as difficult to create something that does not feel like a complete letdown when you watch it.}

07 Jul 2015 09:15:15
Ah I think you mentioned something about warhammer universe in another thread being well written. My cousing used to be into it and would talk about chaos and lizardmen and such. He and his mates loved it.
I was horrified at what they did to the hobbit sat through the first film just and turned off halfway through the second. If warhammer were to be made into a film,hopefully they'd avoid that format,especially the over reliance on computer generated graphics.

Is David Eddings the author and several book series that revolve around magic? I've never been a great reader of fantasy writing,I think my mother had his books at some stage(after Harry potter fandom came along) but I never read them. If it is the case then I think hollywood could sure capitalise on the fanbase made possible by the harry potter movies.

{Ed001's Note - it is fantasy, I used to read them at work, when I was working 12 hour shifts that had long periods of just sitting around, they were good to fill the time. They are interesting enough to be entertaining, without dragging you completely in enough to make a film unworkable, as it has no chance of living up to the book.

The other series would be the Thomas Covenant books. I read them many years ago and remember really enjoying them, they might make good films.

To be honest I am not a big reader of novels, so I don't have a lot of them to choose from. As for games, they do not tend to work without the involvement you get when playing them as a game.}

07 Jul 2015 16:57:34
An old school favourite game of mine was 'Doom' the movie however was absolutely dire.
Would love to see a GTA5 style movie.

{Ed001's Note - the thing is with games like that, they would have no real story to base it on, so they could take it anyway they like with the movie. Just need to get the best writers, rather than awful ones.}

08 Jul 2015 06:20:32
Id like to see the game last of us made into a film I think that could be good.

I agree with Ed on books>films I'm not a massive book reader but nearly everyone I speak to say the books are miles better than the film.

Just look at Stephen King. Misery maybe I thought that was ok

{Ed001's Note - I have never understood the deal with King, my mother had loads of his books when I was a kid and I could never get into any of them.}

08 Jul 2015 09:44:07
I'm not much of a reader. I like James patterson,michael crichton.

Obviously some of crichtons novels have become blockbusters. others not so much.

I don't think patterson's have been turned into fimls well,Kiss the girls was ok,and along came a spider I didn't really like.

I never really got into horror stories for reading,so Stephen King was a bit of a myth to me with regards to how many of his books are turned into movies. It, pet semetry etc.
I did however enjoy one where the devil takes a child as his offspring from a town, that was eventually turned into a movie I think,and also dream catcher(movie I weirdly enjoyed But I know if it wasn't for me liking the book i'd hate it)

I'd be interested to see how a GTA movie would pan out. I think it could go 2 ways,a dramatic cop vs gangsta movie like HEAT,or a fun summer blockbuster like gone in 60 seconds?

08 Jul 2015 10:57:00
Always thought hitman would make a wonderful film. Sad they screwed it up so bad. Still it is a concept i feel has much scope for development. Also a gta vice city film set i'm the 80s might be interesting

11 Jul 2015 22:11:49
If you like lord of the rings try the stand its kings homage to ut in a modern America. Its the only one of his books I can read. The tv special with Gary sinise was ok and rumours of a new one in development.

Knights of the republic would have made a better series than the prequel trilogy.

{Ed001's Note - I have seen the TV show and did not enjoy it at all. I just don't like King all that much.}

11 Jul 2015 22:19:48
Hitman had potential, I swear I saw a trailer for a new film the other day. Wasn't the stilton before bed.

Going back to games, Diablo could make an epic fantasy story, prefer to see it as a book over a film.

{Ed001's Note - actually I quite liked Hitman, the first one, I am sure they did a sequel recently.}

12 Jul 2015 10:12:02
Yeah I didn't think it was that bad a film. Epic game though.

I'm trying to think of books but moat have already been done, in the pipeline or impossible to do.

{Ed001's Note - never actually played Hitman, being perfectly honest.}

12 Jul 2015 16:51:54
Ah great game what's not to like about sneaking about killing people?

{Ed001's Note - if only he was a ninja doing it, then it would be even better......}

12 Jul 2015 21:00:34
Ed001 i highly recommend hitman. Epic game. One of the best franchises ever imo. 0Plus teaches a lot of ways to make murder look like accident always handy ain't it?

{Ed001's Note - I would not like to give the missus any ideas!}

12 Jul 2015 21:10:47
First game there's a whole level, about 4 maps bumping off Chinese gangsters, all stealth and garrot wire and disguises.

{Ed001's Note - I was kidding, I know it was based on the idea of what a ninja would be like in the modern era.}

13 Jul 2015 11:01:42
There was just something excessively cool about a bald clone woth a ridiculously perfect jawline in a suit going about sneaking and killing people. There is a sequel coming out this year. It was intended to originally have Paul Walker as Agent 47😢

{Ed001's Note - sorry to say this, but it is probably a good thing it doesn't have Walker in it, he was not a good actor. Shame he is not around, but he was never good enough, he was just good looking, which got him roles.}

13 Jul 2015 14:52:54
I've said it once already and I'll say it again.

Half Life needs a movie.

You read any Arthur C Clarke Ed? I'm pretty sure some of his stories could be put into movies, given that his books usually have some scientific standing.

{Ed001's Note - I find his stuff a bit boring to be honest. 2001 was his wasn't it?}

13 Jul 2015 15:35:38
I think so yeah, but his movies were made during a time when special effects weren't at their best. I know it was a 90s movie, but if you remember, we had a monumental amount of movies released with sub par CGI in it, think Jurrasic Park was the one to break to mould!

{Ed001's Note - I just think his stories are too long winded. Bit like that Prometheus yawnfest.}

13 Jul 2015 16:06:18
I liked Prometheus =[

{Ed001's Note - did you not find it boring? It felt like it was about 8 hours long.}

13 Jul 2015 23:45:55
Good shout on half life that was a game and half.

I just thought of final fantasy (how could I forget?) but then they are practically films anyway.

14 Jul 2015 10:29:29
I just felt that Prometheus was a good story myself, showing more of the Alien vs Predator universe.

Didn't Final Fantasy make a movie? I know it was animated but it was still very fun to watch.

Perhaps a Bioshock movie? That's another absolutely epic story. Maybe do a prequel, showing how Rapture was built.

Warhammer movies - already being made according to Ed001 which is amazing! I just hope someone like Ridley Scott gets hold of it and not some loser like James Cameron or Peter Jackson.

01 Jul 2015 11:37:07
Just curious to see who is everyone's favourite actor?

Mine is tom hanks seems to be able to play any character

{Ed001's Note - I would probably say Denzel. Personally I cannot stick Hanks, I think he is an awful actor.}

01 Jul 2015 12:09:27
Tom hanks awful really?

Yeah got to agree on denzel washington he's definitely up there

{Ed001's Note - Tom Hanks is exactly the same character in every film he plays, he doesn't come across differently in any role. Not like say Tom Hardy, who I really rate as well, who can come across as a nice guy in one film, the next he is a menacing bad guy. Each time he is as believable as the role allows. Tom Hanks, on the other hand, is a crap bad guy, I saw one film he was meant to be a baddie and it is was laughable, he just is unable to carry it off. He has absolutely no charisma whatsoever. I don't rate Samuel L Jackson, he is similar in that he can only really play one role, but he has charisma at least.}

01 Jul 2015 16:33:55
If you like tom hardy ed I recommend the drop.

{Ed001's Note - I will check that out, thanks.}

01 Jul 2015 22:34:29
Hard to pick just one but Tom Hardy and Leo DiCaprio are probably the 2 best actors around.

02 Jul 2015 12:52:10
I think Leo di caprio has got better. His early career was pretty woeful (the beach,titanic) but I think he really stepped up after blood diamond particularly wolf of wall st and django.

{Ed001's Note - DiCaprio is excellent, though I thought Django was awful, he was not awful in it. He was very good in Blood Diamond. I tell you who has really improved in recent years, the two from Dogma, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Neither were any good, though I do love Dogma, then just gradually got better and better. Affleck was really good in a film he directed, I think it was called Town. Oh and that film about the CIA rescuing hostages he was good in as well.}

02 Jul 2015 15:50:10
Matt Damon I like, the Bournes especially. Ben affleck I've never liked terrible actor imo. Ed as you are a fan you may like gone girl he starred and directed that movie.

{Ed001's Note - I am not a fan, I just think he has got much better. He has been good in a few of his recent films, but I would not watch a film because he was in it or directed it, I just wouldn't avoid it because of him. Unlike Nicolas Cage, who I would consider not watching a film just because he is in it.}

02 Jul 2015 22:19:39
Gotta agree with GAGUS, DiCaprio is a top actor.

{Ed002's Note - And nobody has mentioned Richard Bradford yet.}

03 Jul 2015 04:47:14
Haha Richard Bradford I do hope that was a joke Ed002. Didn't he have a small part in the untouchables?

George Lazenby too in arguably the best ever bond film.

On a serious note I like mark Wahlberg and if you haven't seen it watch pain and gain very funny.

{Ed001's Note - you have never seen Man In A Suitcase either then?}

03 Jul 2015 07:19:18
Can't say I have ed it's not a film title that would appeal to me

{Ed001's Note - it is the series that Richard Bradford is best known for. He has done quite a few films, but that is what he is known for.}

05 Jul 2015 22:33:20
Hardy, Damon, di caprio all good picks.

{Ed001's Note - I noticed no one has mentioned De Niro or Pacino or similar.}

06 Jul 2015 21:44:52
I was thinking about it, certainly both would be up there 20 years ago.

{Ed001's Note - shows the age most people on here are then I guess.}

06 Jul 2015 22:28:06
Well I would of said either of those but like mort said 20 yrs ago. One of my fave films is heat and obviously the mafia movies. As time went on they did some truly awful movies.

Sleepers is a great film.

{Ed001's Note - it is always a shame when great actors get wasted while dross like Nic Cage gets plum role after plum role to ruin.}

08 Jul 2015 10:59:08
Apart from the names mentioned i have always liked Bradley Cooper as an actor

11 Jul 2015 22:16:50
Agree with discountsave a lot of recent de niro films have been turkeys. But the 80s 90s films were great.

12 Jul 2015 16:55:07
Couple of other names I'd throw out there, Morgan freeman is Mr reliable, these days seems to be pigeon holed into the wise old man role though.

Depp is like hardy, doesn't stick to the same type of role he does vary things up.

Did anyone say Gary oldman?

And if this is open to women, Helena Bonham Carter

{Ed001's Note - do you rate Depp? I have yet to see him in a film I could really say I enjoyed.}

12 Jul 2015 16:56:29
And I just saw the lazenby comment, seriously? Best bond film ever? Might need a new thread for that one

12 Jul 2015 21:12:29
I think he's better than some others.

{Ed001's Note - there are a lot of rubbish actors though, so that is not saying much!}

13 Jul 2015 14:54:41
Leonardo Di Caprio is the best actor around not to win an Oscar.

Such a farce!

{Ed001's Note - I honestly thought he did have one.}

13 Jul 2015 15:10:57
Those of you saying about GTA making a good movie, I don't think so really.

GTA has some good characters throughout it's entire lifespan such as Claude(GTAIII) Tommy Vercetti(Vice City) and Niko Belic(GTA IV) but it's all been done before. This is the problem, it's revolutionary in a gaming sense because of how it's played, but movie wise, there are so many similar stories and plot lines out there.

13 Jul 2015 15:48:50
Unfortunately, he's only ever been nominated and the people who won instead of him, were a joke!

He was nominated for the following;

Best Actor in a Supporting Role
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
Won by Tommy Lee Jones, The Fugitive

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
The Aviator (2004)
Won by Jamie Foxx, Ray.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Blood Diamond (2006)
Won by Forest Whitaker, Last king of Scotland

Best Motion Picture of the Year
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Won by 12 Years a Slave

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Won by Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club

However. As you can see, the majority of the people who won it, are not even in the same league as DiCaprio. Or the performance he put in for his movies. He's not just a pretty face, he's a damn good actor! It's no wonder people think there is a conspiracy against him lol.

{Ed001's Note - I do like Tommy Lee Jones, but not sure he is the greatest actor to be fair. Not a big fan of Jamie Foxx but he does turn in some good performances. Basically I agree, DiCaprio is better than those, but Oscars are just a load of crap anyway.}

13 Jul 2015 23:47:24
2006 was shocking. He was great in the departed too.

{Ed001's Note - I have never seen Last King Of Scotland, was it that bad?}

14 Jul 2015 10:31:19
It was apparently an excellent movie, my mother watched it and couldn't speak highly enough of it. I haven't seen it however, but it's still scandalous that Leo DiCaprio hasn't won an Oscar.

The only one I felt he genuine lost out on was in 2013 for 12 Years a Slave. All the others he should have won imo.

14 Jul 2015 10:33:07
I've seen it the once, when it first came on tv. can't really remember it it was a bit boring to be honest it only really picked up when mcavoys doctor character realised what a monster idi Amin was and tried to escape. Don't get me wrong Whitaker was good but I didn't think he was better than di caprio. I think the subject matter swung a few votes.

14 Jul 2015 23:55:31
Not wanting to be controversial.

I walked out of the aviator, I can normally sit through a terrible film if the acting is good,but not a chance with this one. I didn't think the acting of Leo was special.

Matthew McConaughey was more than worthy of his oscar in my opinion. It's a shame leo came up against such a strong performance that year as he really did show off his talent. Either way it's a toughy.

Blood diamond for me he had one of the worst accents going and just didn't convince me in the role. If you're going to win an oscar you have to be able to nail the accent at the very least.

Can't say i have seen what's eating gilbert,Tommy lee jones is a bang average actor and his performance in the fugitive was nothing spcecial for me.

He was brilliant in the departed I have no idea if he was nominated,he certainly should have been.

I wouldn't take anything to heart about the oscars,we all know that only over acted biopics win them now. 12 years,argo,kings speech,hurt locker etc etc and for the actors,Dallas buyer,lincoln,theory of,just seems we are in that period.

{Ed001's Note - did you not like Argo?}
