Just curious to see who is everyone's favourite actor?

Mine is tom hanks seems to be able to play any character

{Ed001's Note - I would probably say Denzel. Personally I cannot stick Hanks, I think he is an awful actor.}

01 Jul 2015 12:09:27
Tom hanks awful really?

Yeah got to agree on denzel washington he's definitely up there

{Ed001's Note - Tom Hanks is exactly the same character in every film he plays, he doesn't come across differently in any role. Not like say Tom Hardy, who I really rate as well, who can come across as a nice guy in one film, the next he is a menacing bad guy. Each time he is as believable as the role allows. Tom Hanks, on the other hand, is a crap bad guy, I saw one film he was meant to be a baddie and it is was laughable, he just is unable to carry it off. He has absolutely no charisma whatsoever. I don't rate Samuel L Jackson, he is similar in that he can only really play one role, but he has charisma at least.}

01 Jul 2015 16:33:55
If you like tom hardy ed I recommend the drop.

{Ed001's Note - I will check that out, thanks.}

01 Jul 2015 22:34:29
Hard to pick just one but Tom Hardy and Leo DiCaprio are probably the 2 best actors around.

02 Jul 2015 12:52:10
I think Leo di caprio has got better. His early career was pretty woeful (the beach,titanic) but I think he really stepped up after blood diamond particularly wolf of wall st and django.

{Ed001's Note - DiCaprio is excellent, though I thought Django was awful, he was not awful in it. He was very good in Blood Diamond. I tell you who has really improved in recent years, the two from Dogma, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Neither were any good, though I do love Dogma, then just gradually got better and better. Affleck was really good in a film he directed, I think it was called Town. Oh and that film about the CIA rescuing hostages he was good in as well.}

02 Jul 2015 15:50:10
Matt Damon I like, the Bournes especially. Ben affleck I've never liked terrible actor imo. Ed as you are a fan you may like gone girl he starred and directed that movie.

{Ed001's Note - I am not a fan, I just think he has got much better. He has been good in a few of his recent films, but I would not watch a film because he was in it or directed it, I just wouldn't avoid it because of him. Unlike Nicolas Cage, who I would consider not watching a film just because he is in it.}

02 Jul 2015 22:19:39
Gotta agree with GAGUS, DiCaprio is a top actor.

{Ed002's Note - And nobody has mentioned Richard Bradford yet.}

03 Jul 2015 04:47:14
Haha Richard Bradford I do hope that was a joke Ed002. Didn't he have a small part in the untouchables?

George Lazenby too in arguably the best ever bond film.

On a serious note I like mark Wahlberg and if you haven't seen it watch pain and gain very funny.

{Ed001's Note - you have never seen Man In A Suitcase either then?}

03 Jul 2015 07:19:18
Can't say I have ed it's not a film title that would appeal to me

{Ed001's Note - it is the series that Richard Bradford is best known for. He has done quite a few films, but that is what he is known for.}

05 Jul 2015 22:33:20
Hardy, Damon, di caprio all good picks.

{Ed001's Note - I noticed no one has mentioned De Niro or Pacino or similar.}

06 Jul 2015 21:44:52
I was thinking about it, certainly both would be up there 20 years ago.

{Ed001's Note - shows the age most people on here are then I guess.}

06 Jul 2015 22:28:06
Well I would of said either of those but like mort said 20 yrs ago. One of my fave films is heat and obviously the mafia movies. As time went on they did some truly awful movies.

Sleepers is a great film.

{Ed001's Note - it is always a shame when great actors get wasted while dross like Nic Cage gets plum role after plum role to ruin.}

08 Jul 2015 10:59:08
Apart from the names mentioned i have always liked Bradley Cooper as an actor

11 Jul 2015 22:16:50
Agree with discountsave a lot of recent de niro films have been turkeys. But the 80s 90s films were great.

12 Jul 2015 16:55:07
Couple of other names I'd throw out there, Morgan freeman is Mr reliable, these days seems to be pigeon holed into the wise old man role though.

Depp is like hardy, doesn't stick to the same type of role he does vary things up.

Did anyone say Gary oldman?

And if this is open to women, Helena Bonham Carter

{Ed001's Note - do you rate Depp? I have yet to see him in a film I could really say I enjoyed.}

12 Jul 2015 16:56:29
And I just saw the lazenby comment, seriously? Best bond film ever? Might need a new thread for that one

12 Jul 2015 21:12:29
I think he's better than some others.

{Ed001's Note - there are a lot of rubbish actors though, so that is not saying much!}

13 Jul 2015 14:54:41
Leonardo Di Caprio is the best actor around not to win an Oscar.

Such a farce!

{Ed001's Note - I honestly thought he did have one.}

13 Jul 2015 15:10:57
Those of you saying about GTA making a good movie, I don't think so really.

GTA has some good characters throughout it's entire lifespan such as Claude(GTAIII) Tommy Vercetti(Vice City) and Niko Belic(GTA IV) but it's all been done before. This is the problem, it's revolutionary in a gaming sense because of how it's played, but movie wise, there are so many similar stories and plot lines out there.

13 Jul 2015 15:48:50
Unfortunately, he's only ever been nominated and the people who won instead of him, were a joke!

He was nominated for the following;

Best Actor in a Supporting Role
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
Won by Tommy Lee Jones, The Fugitive

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
The Aviator (2004)
Won by Jamie Foxx, Ray.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
Blood Diamond (2006)
Won by Forest Whitaker, Last king of Scotland

Best Motion Picture of the Year
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Won by 12 Years a Slave

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Won by Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club

However. As you can see, the majority of the people who won it, are not even in the same league as DiCaprio. Or the performance he put in for his movies. He's not just a pretty face, he's a damn good actor! It's no wonder people think there is a conspiracy against him lol.

{Ed001's Note - I do like Tommy Lee Jones, but not sure he is the greatest actor to be fair. Not a big fan of Jamie Foxx but he does turn in some good performances. Basically I agree, DiCaprio is better than those, but Oscars are just a load of crap anyway.}

13 Jul 2015 23:47:24
2006 was shocking. He was great in the departed too.

{Ed001's Note - I have never seen Last King Of Scotland, was it that bad?}

14 Jul 2015 10:31:19
It was apparently an excellent movie, my mother watched it and couldn't speak highly enough of it. I haven't seen it however, but it's still scandalous that Leo DiCaprio hasn't won an Oscar.

The only one I felt he genuine lost out on was in 2013 for 12 Years a Slave. All the others he should have won imo.

14 Jul 2015 10:33:07
I've seen it the once, when it first came on tv. can't really remember it it was a bit boring to be honest it only really picked up when mcavoys doctor character realised what a monster idi Amin was and tried to escape. Don't get me wrong Whitaker was good but I didn't think he was better than di caprio. I think the subject matter swung a few votes.

14 Jul 2015 23:55:31
Not wanting to be controversial.

I walked out of the aviator, I can normally sit through a terrible film if the acting is good,but not a chance with this one. I didn't think the acting of Leo was special.

Matthew McConaughey was more than worthy of his oscar in my opinion. It's a shame leo came up against such a strong performance that year as he really did show off his talent. Either way it's a toughy.

Blood diamond for me he had one of the worst accents going and just didn't convince me in the role. If you're going to win an oscar you have to be able to nail the accent at the very least.

Can't say i have seen what's eating gilbert,Tommy lee jones is a bang average actor and his performance in the fugitive was nothing spcecial for me.

He was brilliant in the departed I have no idea if he was nominated,he certainly should have been.

I wouldn't take anything to heart about the oscars,we all know that only over acted biopics win them now. 12 years,argo,kings speech,hurt locker etc etc and for the actors,Dallas buyer,lincoln,theory of,just seems we are in that period.

{Ed001's Note - did you not like Argo?}

26 Jun 2015 22:09:36
Mad max (new one) absolutely terrible.

I quite enjoyed the first mad max (Mel Gibson) so thought I might enjoy this one.

Well 2hrs of my life I'll never see again

{Ed001's Note - really? You are the first person I have known that didn't enjoy it. I don't know whether to watch it or not now. I love the first one, which is putting me off seeing the remake.}

27 Jun 2015 07:28:57
Honestly mate I was expecting this to be good as I enjoyed the original one but I thought it was awful.

I'm going to watch the original one today to try and rid me of the tripe I watched yesterday.

{Ed001's Note - what was so bad about it? Just wondering as I have even heard people call it one of the top ten films ever, so it is interesting to get a different view.}

27 Jun 2015 08:13:09
The story was weak, it was more or less just driving all the way through, very little action, although it was called mad max the character max did very little.

We all have different tastes in films so you may like it but for me it was another disappointing remake.

{Ed001's Note - I seem to remember the original having very little in the way of strong story. It was mainly about the driving. Though I did have worries regarding it as the shots I saw looked to have been taken from Mad Max 2 remake, which was nothing like as good as the first film. I haven't seen the films for a long time now though, maybe it is time I remind myself how good they were?}

27 Jun 2015 08:41:27
Perhaps it's just me it's got 8.5 on imdb so it seems like people do like it.

It may just be my issue with all remakes I'm just not a fan if the original was good I see very little point in remaking it

{Ed001's Note - I am the same on remakes, it just seems a lazy way to make more money.}

27 Jun 2015 08:46:55
Oh and yes it was more of a remake of the 2nd one

{Ed001's Note - ah ok, that is not so appealing then, it was the first one that I particularly loved.}

28 Jun 2015 05:55:19
Very little action? Are you sure you watched the right film?

It was bat sh*t mental from start to finish. Great watch!

{Ed001's Note - so you recommend it then?}

28 Jun 2015 08:31:03
G.A.G.U.S thanks I just checked what I watched and it was herbie rides again.

All opinions differ and I thought it was awful.

28 Jun 2015 21:46:19
Yeah I would Ed. Opinions differ yeah, but 'very little' action?

29 Jun 2015 07:47:07
The thing G.A.G.U.S is that I really enjoyed the original mad max and I very rarely enjoy remakes and I didn't think there was a great deal of action.

One thing I didn't realise was the director George Miller who I believe was the director of the originals.

I only enjoyed the very first mad max thought 2 + 3 was crap

01 Jul 2015 03:38:56
Fair enough yeah, remakes are just a lack of imagination these days.

They're even making another new Spider-Man 😂

01 Jul 2015 11:32:16
Aslong as toby maguire will never don the spider suit I'll be happy.

{Ed001's Note - how many times can they remake Spidey???

06 Jul 2015 10:39:33
I saw The Town the other day ed001. Affleck was brilliant. I think he gets a lot of stick for his portrayal of DarDevil(script was terrible but his portrayal and actions representing those of a blind person to me were spot on) and also his stint of films whilst with Jlo were terrible,where I think he was just picking up cheques in such as jersey Girl,Paycheck,Gigli changing lanes.
I prefer Him in films with Dialogue rather than action,I think that's his forte.
I think in recent years he's invented himself as a serious actor. such as you said,the town,state of play,runner runner,gone girl, and Argo. He's trying to almost step away from being a hollywood hearthrob to serious actor for me,which was a good move.

With regards to Tom Hardy mentioned. I seriously think atthis time there is no actor who is comparable. I first fell in love for his acting skills when he was an unknown starring in star trek nemesis opposite Patrick Stewart. Their one on one Dialogue and scenes stole the show (From a poor film) They bounced well off one another,especially in the scene (echo over the voice)

Hardy transitions so easily into any role,and actually makes poor films watchable(I thought the drop was a terrible script) For me at the moment,he's hollywoods most bankable star.

{Ed001's Note - Argo! That was the film I was trying to think of, excellent film and Affleck did play the role well. I think you are right, he is much better as a serious actor, he just doesn't suit the hearththrob or action hero guise well. It just doesn't play to his strength. Which is a worry with him as the new Batman, so hopefully they will do what they did with Bale and hide his weaknesses using the suit. Allow Affleck to do the serious parts and then use the suit for the action.

I also agree with your thinking on Hardy, I can't think of anyone else that can slip into a role so easily, no matter what the role requires. He can be a totally believable nice guy in one film and the next be the opposite, not once do you see him as the guy from the previous film. He always manages to make you forget what you just saw him as and instead see him as what he is now. That is a great talent that very few have.

There are people out there like Statham that are very watchable, but they only really work well in the right role. He can be the flawed bad arse hero, but anything else and he just seems out of place. It is a shame Robin Williams is no longer with us, he was another that could slip into a role and make it seem like him. He could be evil in one film and then funny in the next. Shame he never really got the chance to show enough of his acting skills because of his talent for comedy.}

06 Jul 2015 12:55:05
I was apprehensive at first when I saw Affleck was appointed to be the new batman,but not dismissive as a lot of the comicon type fans seem to be. I am hoping like you,the action sequences are small,and it's more of a political type thing of Batman dialoguing with superman who will be working for the government.Seemingly the trailer hints at this, as well as Batman being ''old'' I am hoping for it to be more about trickery than action,and big fight sequences(I wasn't such a fan of those in man of steel,far too long,vileent and destructive for my liking given the character) I'll still see the film in the cinema regardless of how critical reviews turn out.

Agree completely with Statham being the Anti-hero type role. He plays it so well. I'd I'd like him to step away from doing so many sequels to his films though,but I guess he gets offered a lot of money,and the industry sees them as bankable.

I think a lot of the great ''serious'' acting roles Robin Williams performed mirrored his jovial personality and caring side. Such as his characters in good will hunting,Mrs Doubtfire,Jumanji,what dreams may come,dead poets society. He plays a family man who likes to joke and play,or some sort of guidance figure. Which mirrorred a lot for me,his real life personality.

I have never gone back and watched many of his films aimed at younger people though,which I think I must do at somepoint,to appreciate his comedy. I usually have a ''policy'' if you will of not watching comedies/comedians films after a certain time because a lot of jokes aren't relevant,and humour moves on pretty quickly I feel.

{Ed001's Note - Man of the Year is a film that really comes alive only when Williams gets to do gags, when he gets on a role, doing his own topical stand up, then it is brilliant.}

06 Jul 2015 14:01:46
Ill have a look out for that on netflix or hmv Ed,I might need to set aside a weekend and just have a RW binge day :)

{Ed001's Note - it is quite good to watch him on his soapbox.}

13 Jul 2015 14:58:32
I don't agree with your opinion on Robin Williams Ed001. I think he was nothing special.

He had his moments no doubt, Good Morning Vietnamn was excellent, but the majority of his movies were abysmal.

I watched this movie where he played the part of a Jewish man during WWII and he was also very good in that, but apart from that, I'd say he was your typical average actor.

{Ed001's Note - the man was a genius when he was allowed to be him. 24 Hour Photo he was good in.}

21 Jun 2015 15:02:49
I watched the movie Rush on TV last night, the movie was fantastic and they really did get hold of James Hunt's personality and rivaly with Nikki Lauder.

A funny story for you;

My Uncle Michael used to be James' Mechanic in his earlier F1 days and he took my mother to the Pit to meet everyone. James put his arm around my mother and said "Who's this lovely lady then" to which she replied "F*** off you creep!"

She didn't know it was James Hunt LOL!

{Ed001's Note - it is a really good movie, apart from the guy playing Hunt looking ridiculously tall for an F1 driver.}

Nikki Lauder also sounded Scottish and Dutch at the same time occasionally. Even though he's Austrian lol.

{Ed001's Note - but he was being played by an Australian....}

There has to be some kind of joke involving the illuminati here somewhere.

{Ed001's Note - I am not even sure he was Australian thinking about it, that was Hunt that was played by an Aussie wasn't it?}

Yeah Chris Hemworth(James Hunt) is Australian.

{Ed001's Note - I knew one of them was.}

You saying about his height, did you see David Coulthard stood next to Massa today? There was a good foot and a half difference! Lol.

{Ed001's Note - no mate, I don't have the BBC here.}

21 Jun 2015 14:59:35
The Martian

Anyone like the look of this? It's got Matt Damon(I can't say his name without remembering team America, I really can't!) in it and I guess it's a colonisation movie? From what I can make out from the trailer, it looks as though he was a scientist sent to Mars to start the colonisation process, I guess it goes wrong and a rescue mission is sent or something.

I've a feeling this will be like Gravity and not quite live up to expectation.

{Ed001's Note - I have not seen anything about it other than a picture. I was wondering what it was about myself.}

Here is the trailer for you ^_^

www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KzsFjnSBlg

I've seen the trailer to this and I'm quite looking forward to it.

Another film I'm really looking forward to is minions but that's the kid in me (I hope) or it could be my mental age showing.

26 Jun 2015 21:29:56
The martian looks really good to me. The plot seems to fit an easy hollywood blockbuster. And there's quite a lot of similar sci fi plots from tv and previous films it can take from.

21 Jun 2015 07:58:19
What we think of the vast amount of remakes being released.

Imo most fail.

Mad max
Pet sematary
Point break
The crow
American werewolf in London
Dirty dancing
Starship troopers
War games
Commando
Death wish
Escape from new York
Highlander
Scarface
Flight of the navigator

{Ed001's Note - I would just like new films to be made. If the originals are good, can we not just enjoy them as they were, rather than remaking them?}

Agree with that completely. Perhaps movie makers are running out of ideas

{Ed001's Note - they seem to have run out years ago!}

Saying they've run out of idea's is slightly naive. They have pretty much done everything already, its near impossible to actually come up with an original movie plot these days.

{Ed001's Note - yet people still manage to come up with new books without needing to rewrite old ones.}

20 Jun 2015 08:31:35
Can anyone recommend any classic movies to try watching? The only old movies I have watched have been comedies or Sherlock Holmes films, I just wondered if there are any I have missed out on?

A few of the old war films are good, such as 633 Squadren and Dam Busters, Citizen Kane is an obvious one, The Great Escape was good too.

Also, anything by Martin Scorsese is usually worth a watch, Hitchcock, movies are usually decent too. There is a game to play while watching the Hitchcock movies though we call it "Spot the Hitchcock" as he appears somewhere in all his movies.

Oh and a comedy for you would be Son of Paleface, it's just stupid but it is funny, it's got Bing Crosby and Bob Hope - a classic duo.

{Ed001's Note - I forgot about war films, I have seen a lot of those. Not a fan of The Great Escape though, not sure why I just didn't enjoy it. I will look for that comedy thanks.}

The hustler (Paul Newman plays every shot in that)
Cool hand luke
Butch cassidy and the sundance kid

{Ed001's Note - cheers, will check those out, though I am not a fan of cowboy films at all and I am pretty sure Butch and Sundance is one. Still, you never know when a film will surprise you despite the genre.}

To be honest ed001 I'm not into cowboy films either but I did enjoy Butch and sundance and young guns.

Also the colour of money is worth a watch

{Ed001's Note - I did enjoy Young Guns at the time I have to say. I think I have seen Colour of Money, was it Tom 'Scientology Nutjob' Cruise in it?}

Yes the tom cruise one. The hustler is better in my opinion.

{Ed001's Note - I have not seen the Hustler. I will have to start putting a list of films together. Whenever I go to watch old films, I tend to end up watching Le Mans again, or some other film I have seen before but love. While I love them and don't mind watching them again and again, it would be nice to enjoy something different too.

Can anyone remember a kids film where they made a spaceship out of a fairground ride? I remember loving that as a kid, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was called.}

I've just Googled it for you mate and the name explorers with ethan hawke and river phoenix I think.

If this is the one would It be a film my kids might enjoy as they love the goonies

{Ed001's Note - ah that's it! Yes they would love it, it is a brilliant film for kids, right up there with Goonies as a classic kids' movie.}

20 Jun 2015 08:29:38
I see there is a bit of a flap about some internal Sony emails that have been leaked. Apparently they say Spiderman needs to be white and straight. Not sure that it matters, being perfectly honest. The character in the comics is white and straight, there are enough changes made, why not stick with it? After all he became among the most popular comic book and film characters in the world as he is, so why change it? It would be a huge risk to make changes to such a popular character.

17 Jun 2015 22:25:33
Hello guys, just a quick question.

What book, story or game(if any) would you like to see made into a movie?

I have a couple in mind, mainly video games though but here goes.

1). Half Life - This game has such an epic story, it really needs to be made into a movie. You've got all the ingredients to make a box office smash! It's got an enormous fanbase, the story is epic(as already mentioned), the characters are viable in the movie and let's be honest here. There hasn't been a decent Extraterrestrial movie since Alien.

2). Gears of War - Yeah ok, it would probably end up as some movie filled with Wrestlers and Bullshark Testosterone, but it would not be hard to make an entertaining movie about huge steroid freaks with big guns and lots of blood.

3). Red Faction - Ok, so they made some crappy B-movie back in 2011 called Red Faction Origins, set between RF:Guerrilla and RF:Armageddon, but it was woeful at best and the only "known" actor in it Robert Patrick(Terminator 2, The Sopranos). It has a story which is fairly common with in planet colonisation and was inspired by Total Recall but has its own unique side to it.

4). Bioshock - Hailed as arguably the best game ever released on PC, it has a monumental story that would require a trilogy to fit it all in mind. I would imagine it would be taken on by someone like James Cameron, it just seems like his kind of movie, which is very worrying.

5). Warhammer 40,000 - I don't think I even need to say this, but this game makes the Lord of the Rings story look small with little depth. The potential with this movie is limitless, given the amount of factions/races and the enormous history(40,000 years worth!) and the insane depth the Lore of each character has.

Some honorable mentions: Far Cry, Mass Effect, Serious Sam(yeah this would just be a fun movie with epic amounts of cheese), Dead Space and Lost Planet.

{Ed001's Note - the Warhammer films are being made mate, I am really looking forward to them.}

Are they really? That's awesome!

I only hope they can keep Peter Jackson away from them.

Do you perhaps have any links with information about what the story will be? Just going on a whim here, but I'd imagine if it's Warhammer 40,000 they're doing, it will be something along the lines of "The Horus Heresy" which is talked about a lot in the video games.

{Ed001's Note - this one has been years in the making: http://kotaku.com/warhammer-40k-is-getting-the-movie-it-deserves-511567059

But the interest generated has led to another official one being plotted, though I can't find the piece on it that I saw that had my mouth watering. It was space marines, and live action, as they were talking about how they would make them appear much larger than normal humans.}

That's awesome! Let's just hope it's a story that involves Chaos(my favourite race) as the main enemy and not the Orks.

I also hope they stay true to the names of the key characters, such as Eliphas, Davian Thule, Araghast and Jonah Aria.

I also hope it's not done based on something that's already been played out in one of the games. I'd much rather see it be a movie that is based off of one of the events that's only talked about in games, such as the Horus Heresy, the Battle of Terra, the Battle for Monthax or Siege of The Emperor's Palace even, that would be epic!

{Ed001's Note - I love the Orks, though Chaos is the most interesting of all. I seem to remember talk of a Horus Heresy film series based on the books, but I think that must have been just people wishing for one, as I can't see how it would be possible to do the series.}

18 Jun 2015 21:06:26
Personally, I think a TV show might be a better way to do it. I quickly google'd the Horus Heresy and I came across this.

http://goo.gl/XwJgG

It's HUGE! And got so many major events happening in it.

{Ed001's Note - have you read any of the books? They are excellent, the best sci fi series I have ever read by a country mile.}

No I haven't read the books, I've always been a fan of the video games though, so perhaps I should read them.

{Ed001's Note - I highly recommend them mate. I admit to being hooked on them.}

28 Jun 2015 05:58:29
The Last of Us is being made into a film I hear!

13 Jun 2015 07:12:05
Anyone here watched Jurassic Park or even thinking of going to watch it?
Plus its raining here in Mumbai and they're showing Kingsman secret service in an hour. Anyone know of its worth a watch?

{Ed001's Note - Ed004 said Kingsman is good, I have not seen the new Jurassic Park movie yet, though I would like to.}

13 Jun 2015 08:19:16
Watching kingsmam and not at all liking it. I am thinking of skipping Jurassic park. Never was a fan of the original

{Ed001's Note - really? I liked the original, but I was always fascinated by dinosaurs, hence why we have so many helping edit the sites.....}

13 Jun 2015 08:56:05
Lol Ed that made me chuckle

13 Jun 2015 11:42:14
First Jurassic park is one of my favourite movies. Second was alright just thought the whole thing of having the maths scientist suddenly think he's an expert on dinos because of one encounter with a t rex. The third one I didn't care much for at all mainly because I hated that annoying family and was disappointed none of them got chewed. Although the whole aviary sequence was very good.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new one although one bit in the trailer concerned me when someone said something about designing their own dinosaur to be more extreme than a t rex.

Mort

There is an enormous flaw in the movie.

The Mosasaurus which jumps out of the water and catches the shark, is meant to be around 59ft in length. However, the one in Jurassic World, is approximately 667ft. That makes a Blue Whale look like Plankton.

It was worked out by a guy on youtube, he explains that the shark is most probably an average fully grown adult, which means that it will fit 9 times inside the Mosasaurus from nose to neck. That's not including it's tail which is 35% of it's body length, as well as it's back, chest and stomach. You can search this with relative ease on youtube.

14 Jun 2015 12:25:36
667 feet?

We're going to need a bigger pool.

Mort

I know that people have this image of dinosaurs being monumentally big, but that just isn't the case. Yes there are excessively large ones like the Argentinasaurus, Amphicoelias and Suaurposeidon, but even they are only estimate sizes, and do not exceed 200ft in length.

I know the Jurassic World/Park series isn't known for its fact based story, but you'd think they'd at least keep to the correct sizing!

12 Jun 2015 06:19:18
for many years movie fans want to see MICHAEL vs JASON and i'm one of them

when they did FREDDY vs JASON I thought, why noy MICHAEL vs JASON??? the movie was good but this one could've been in the top 10 movies of all time based on box office money

im on here to give my choice on who would win and i'm using a theme from an article I saw that was giving it like 7 rounds to judge who wins but i'm going to add 2 to it

- ROUND 1: BACKSTORY (how they became them)

JASON = he was a little deformed kid who was bullied a lot cause of the way he looked and his mom was the only one who loved him and so the bullying made Jason run and he drowned in a lake while the counselors were having some fun (LOL) and so the mom took revenge to that and Jason did too during the 2nd movie

MICHAEL = well he was a normal kid until one Halloween when he snapped and killed his sister like she was nothing and he walked out to the curb and then his parents came home and walked in and then sent him to a mental hospital for 15 years and he escaped to get revenge on a lot of people but namely LAURY STOUDE

EDGE = MICHAEL

- ROUND 2: MASK

JASON = well he had a pillow case at first (STUPID) and then in the 3rd one he got his iconic mask and in Jason goes to manhattan, I thought it was awesome and hilarious when Jason saw a billboard of a hockey mask advertisement

MICHAEL = well he has a scary pale white toned mask that shows nothing but scary thoughts and adding his dark eyes just gives you goosebumps

EDGE = MICHAEL

- ROUND 3: WEAPON

JASON = he used a lot of weapons but mostly a machete, something that can cut a person in half with one swipe

MICHAEL = he also used a lot of weapons but mostly a butcher knife which is sharp anyways and can be deadly (obviously)

EDGE = JASON

- ROUND 4: STEALTH/CREATIVITY

JASON = he has ways of killing but mainly in close quarters but when in the woods, he has trees, rocks and himself but he does make a lot of noise (throwing canoes around. lol)

MICHAEL = well he has awesome stealth and he can be hiding in the same room and you wouldn't notice but the one thing that makes this case is that seen pulling down with one arm was awesome and strong as heck and the Halloween resurrection where he stumped that guard with the head in the dryer and then pulling down with one arm was genius

EDGE: = MICHAEL

- ROUND 5: KILL COUNT

JASON = he has killed over 150 people

MICHAEL = he has killed less then 1/2 of Jason and the fact he's killed dogs too (LOL)

EDGE = JASON

- ROUND 6: DURABILITY

JASON = he has been shot, stabbed, blown to pieces by a shotgun but still comes at ya

MICHAEL = he has been electrocuted, shot at too, set on fire and blown up but seems to still come at ya

EDGE = TIE

- ROUND 7: HEALTH

JASON = has drowned a lot but comes back, has been shot in the head but comes back, been cut in half but a machine makes him stronger and he has a lot of health

MICHAEL = he gets shot and falls down but he always disappears and not seen for years

EDGE = JASON

- ROUND 8: BIGGEST KILL

JASON = well a lot of people but the main one would be freddy (actually freddy winked at the end but still it counts. lol)

MICHAEL = killed the legendary stroude and she was the one Michael always wanted to get

EDGE = TIE

- ROUND 9: MOVIE SERIES

JASON = well he's been in 10 movies (including the new one and freddy vs Jason) and has made over $465,000,000 but the Jason X one was stupid but with that one out of the picture, it still nearly managed $100,000,000 more then Halloween movies

MICHAEL = well he's been in 9 movies (including the 2 new ones) and has made over $366,000,000 but having 1 less movie

EDGE = JASON

- ROUND 10: THEME MUSIC / DATE SIGNIFICANCE

JASON = the theme music ch-ch-ch-ha-ha-ha is chilling but the date Friday the 13th can happen more then once a year

MICHAEL = the theme music from john carpenter is the best and hasn't changed since day 1 and 10/31 only happens once a year

EDGE = MICHAEL
===============================
well from all the edges it looks like I choose Jason which I didn't realize after all of this but I think Michael wins based on smarts cause Jason can make stupid choices while Michael don't, Michael doesn't die, he disappears. Jason dies but is brought back to life a lot so there's that to think about

SO WHO WOULD YOU GUYS THINK WOULD WIN?

Wait, which movies are these guys from? I know one is from Friday 13th but the other is from?

Anyway, it'll be the guy with the Hockey mask that would win, purely because he's more supernatural by the sounds of it.

Rip Christopher lee and ron moody

Mort

{Ed001's Note - Christopher Lee is one of my all time favourite actors, I hope the pair of the rest in peace.}

11 Jun 2015 16:44:48
One of my favourite bond villains. In fact its one of my favourite bond films because of Christopher Lee. And who else could have played saruman. Reading the books as a teenager I always imagined him with lee's voice then he got cast.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - his voice is really individual, you know it is him the moment he speaks.}

11 Jun 2015 21:43:15
Definitely. The guy could have read the phonebook and made it sinister.

Just to go off on a tangent I heard Peter Jackson wants to film the silmarillion but the Tolkien family aren't happy with his other adaptations.

Personally I think its unfilmable. It would take 6 films and you'd have to gut a lot of the story still.

I think it would work as a tv series like game of thrones, ok not the sex and death, but its a tv series based on a lengthy fantasy series.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I really hated the Silmarrillion, it was unreadable. I agree with the Tolkien family on the LOTR films, they were dross, completely lost the plot of the book in an attempt to make it all action.}

My mother said that Christopher Lee is the only Dracula she'd let bite her haha.

RIP.

12 Jun 2015 13:57:21
Its overly complex which us why it wouldn't work as a movie series. It could work as a tv series if well plotted.

I thought the movies started alright but just tailed off. Fellowship was the best but by the time legolas is swinging off a giant cgi elephant with his ever lasting supply of arrows it was a bit o dear.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I just couldn't handle the way they just completely deviated from the book. I mean stretching Liv Tyler's role a bit would have been ok, but to make her a main character, even though she is barely in the book really, was just too much for me.}

12 Jun 2015 14:13:05
Well its been few years since I read it so correct me if I'm wrong but she doesn't turn up till the wedding/ coronation. And the only thing of note she did was to sew aragorns royal standard?

Mort

{Ed001's Note - pretty much. So a lot closer to the films than I was thinking obviously......}

12 Jun 2015 15:27:58
Well she certainly didn't save Frodo from the nazgul.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I really do not understand how the changes got through. Did no one think it might have completely ruined the actual story?}

13 Jun 2015 11:50:46
I know they have to change so much for copywrite reasons. And they added in the arwen stuff to appeal to certain demographics of the audience. And thankfully they cut the bombadil stuff which just didn't work in the book. But some of what did get cut of altered maybe affected it more than they thought especially for those familiar with the books.

I thought the changes to the hobbit were worse. Particularly legolas and tauriel.

I would be interested to see an adaptation of the silmarillion as there are some epic scenes such as the chaining of melkor, the flight of the noldor, fingolfin vs sauron, the whole beren story arc, tuor, maybe the story of Turin, and the final battle against morgoth, all of those done properly would make for some great viewing.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - what copyright reasons? They couldn't use the name if copyright was an issue.....

13 Jun 2015 13:31:49
I thought that as well ed but I asked a guy I know who has a career in music and that's what he said. Any tv or film made from a book has to have some changes made to it so it isn't identical to the already existing work. Doesn't make much sense to me but that's what he said.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - the reason they do the changes is to make them more suitable for filming, as they aren't written, usually, as films. At least that is what I was told. They buy the rights to it, or use material that is no longer copyrighted, so there should be no need to make any changes for copyright reasons.}

14 Jun 2015 12:24:54
Makes some sense. Have you ever read the book layer cake? The writer also adapted it for the film version but there's still a few changes like the nationality of the foreign gang, what ultimately happens to the pills, and the fate of the guy in the cafe. I remember watching it having read the book first and thinking why the changes.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - it is usually changed to suit the fashions of the moment. Hence why they redid that film about the USA being invaded with North Koreans rather than Russians. Or because the director thinks he can make it better with a tweak or two. I have never read the book but the film was excellent of Layer Cake.}

14 Jun 2015 12:47:23
Yes its a great film, one of my favourites from the last decade. Its a good sign that most of the cast were already established or have gone on to big things.

You should try the book, its a good read, will certainly kill a few hours. I've not read the sequel yet.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - if I see it and I have some cash spare I will get a copy.}

**SPOILER**

Did he survive the gun shot at the end in the Layer Cake book? That's all I care about.

Also, what nationality were they in the book, because in the movie, they were Baltic(Eastern Europe), but based in Holland.

14 Jun 2015 21:42:51
In the book they were a far right neo nazi group, mainly German with some Dutch, Belgians and Scandinavians.

The assassination attempt is also different in the book, you know where he gets a sniper in the park. There's more with the northern boys as well. The books worth a read.

SPOILER############

Yes he does survive

Thanks for the info, I think I'll definitely give the book a read, I'm not one for reading books as it takes something special to get me into it. But movies adapted from a book are always interesting, especially if you see the movie first.

I'm glad he survives, he reminds me a lot of me from when I was 14-19. Very similar circumstances, apart from the uber-gangsters and hideous amounts of pills and cocaine. people like "The Duke" are very common here though and it's difficult to avoid people like them. I guess it's why I like the majority of the gangster movies, was pretty much brought up in that environment.

. How can you hate the LOTR films?! They're a work of art.

{Ed001's Note - art is subjective, they were awful films with little relation to the books, which are far superior.}

09 Jun 2015 07:03:01
I am really looking forward to the Suicide Squad movie, though not sure about the choice of Will Smith as Deadshot. That might be just because I got used to the guy who played Deadshot in Arrow.

09 Jun 2015 06:58:36
So Cameron is claiming Terminator Genisys is the real Terminator 3, or is that just because the previous one was rubbish?

Wait what? Hasn't there been 4 Terminators already?

And by Cameron, do you mean James? If so he's a total basher who needs a slap.

10 Jun 2015 13:14:24
I understand why most people hate 3, although I found it entertaining. Judgment day was always going to happen its a paradox it has to happen in order to create john Connor.

When I found out salvation was going to be set post judgement day I had hopes of a decent film. Alas the finished product was not what expected.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - Salvation was truly abysmal.}

10 Jun 2015 13:26:45
It had good bits, but mostly terrible. Bad casting. I also think christian bale can't work without Christopher Nolan. All his best performances (or the least wooden) come when he has Nolan directing him.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - that's because Nolan tried to avoid him having to actually act. He works round it.}

10 Jun 2015 13:35:59
Good point, makes perfect sense thinking about the dark knight trilogy. You'd think he'd have sense to find a leading man who can act.

Look at Scorsese, first de niro and now di caprio.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - maybe he likes the challenge?}

10 Jun 2015 13:40:31
Must be. Still there's worse actors around.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - it is amazing how many truly awful actors regularly get starring roles.}

10 Jun 2015 18:16:46
Definitely. Chris Pine stands out for me, he was pretty decent in that one about the runaway train but he was very much sidekick in that. Thought he was pretty average as kirk in both star trek films, made me appreciate shatners performances.

Also not too keen on Chris Pratt, I've only seen him in guardians of the galaxy but I thought he was one of the worst things in it.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - Guardians was a great film, but I agree, he wasn't the best choice for lead. Chris Pine was carried by Denzel in the runaway train flick I thought, to be fair though, Trek is rubbish, so it was a difficult one to do. Shatner was no better for me, I really do not rate him nor anything Trek related.}

10 Jun 2015 21:30:40
Yes Denzel carried him in runaway train. Very good performance. I thought maybe pine might push on and improve after co starring with a good actor like Denzel. I'm not really a fan of jj Abrams but his first trek had some good action and was well cast apart from pine and pegg.

I didn't really care that much for guardians of the galaxy. Was alright but after hearing people say how good it was I was a bit disappointed. What did you like about it?

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I really hated the first Trek, it was boring and Pegg was embarrassing. I just thought Guardians was fun.}

10 Jun 2015 22:34:04
Yeah it was fun, good warm up film. Good sound track. Liked rocket and groot good double act.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - the sound track was good and the characters were fun, surprisingly good considering the idea of the raccoon thing did not appeal to me in the slightest. Maybe it was because I went into it expecting it to be rubbish that I really enjoyed it?}

11 Jun 2015 16:52:57
Another who bugs me is that Steve Carroll. Never found him funny. The comedy genre seems really poor in general

Mort

{Ed001's Note - is that the 40 year old virgin guy?}

11 Jun 2015 17:51:36
Yeah I think I spelt his last name wrong. Autocorrect. Don't find him funny.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I think the problem is that he is not working with the best of scripts. Comedies these days are so badly written that it makes it difficult. Having said that, someone like Laurel and Hardy would have adlibbed in gags to make it funny. He just doesn't have that spark. Films like Man Of The Year, for instance, were just vehicles for the star, in that case Robin Williams, to give a few of his rants, which made the film worthwhile. Carell (I googled it) just hasn't got that ability to just lift a film and make you laugh on his own. Chris Rock is another one, that film where his identical twin brother is CIA and gets killed and he has to pretend to be him, it is one scene where he goes into his comedy routine that makes that film worthwhile, along with the presence of Bernie Mac, who I loved as a comedian. You just can't imagine Carell going into a routine and taking over in that way. Now I really want to go and watch some old Marx brothers films, I used to really love them.}

11 Jun 2015 21:27:59
Yes my gran raised me on stan and olly, Marx bros, keystone cops.

That's my issue with a lot of comedy, the leads lack that spark, can only follow a script not improvise. Robin Williams was good, Chris rock is another.

One of the last really good comedy films I saw was mouse hunt.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I really don't like Lee Evans, one half of his act is just a rip off of Norman Wisdom and the other half is just a lot of swearing to cover up the fact that he isn't actually funny. Reminds me of something Chubby Brown once said when asked about his own act and he said people would not find him funny if he didn't offend them.}

12 Jun 2015 15:59:05
Fair enough but I thought him and the other guy, Nathan lane?, made for a good comedy double act. Like a budget diet version of stan and olly. Ok nowhere as good, but the closest thing for years. The bath tub scene had me in tears.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - wasn't for me, maybe I just watched it in the wrong mood? Enjoyment of a film can often depend on the mood you are in when you see it.}

12 Jun 2015 17:10:35
That's true, you need to be in the mood for some things.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - even the best film can bore you if you aren't in the mood for it.}

09 Jun 2015 06:55:16
I see FIFA's movie about FIFA has bombed big style. I can't even begin to imagine what on earth they were thinking about producing a movie about themselves right now.

10 Jun 2015 13:15:48
Arrogance?

Mort

{Ed001's Note - good point.}

11 Jun 2015 14:52:19
Maybe even a way to launder money? Is that feasible?

Mort

{Ed001's Note - if it is, then I am sure FIFA will find a way.}

04 Jun 2015 13:57:20
Odd that Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) is not in Captain America 3.

{Ed002's Note - I have some buddies who were in a Nick Fury cartoon - you'll have to visit our original home of The Well, but it is here: http://www.well.com/~cjfish/fury.htm }

07 Jun 2015 17:38:49
Isn't he pretending to be dead after the events of the winter soldier? In hiding? Series 1 of agents of shield had something on him disappearing but I haven't seen any of series 2 so don't know if that got resolved. To be honest its not like he's featured that much apart from winter soldier and iron man 2.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - he came back out for Age of Ultron.}

07 Jun 2015 21:07:49
Ah right thought might be something like that. Haven't seen anything on ultron. Maybe he gets killed off again.

02 Jun 2015 09:59:20
I see The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) wants to do a Big Trouble In Little China remake, the very thought is just wrong.

Nothing against him, I just love the original, I don't want someone to ruin it by redoing it wrong!

I really like Dwayne as a person, I think he's one of the nicest and most humble guys in movies.

He's always doing stuff with his fans and randomly turning up at peoples birthday parties, because why not? He's The Rock. Lol.

{Ed001's Note - no idea about him at all, I don't mind him as an actor or anything like that, like I said this is purely because the original is one of my all time favourite movies. When it came out we used to sneak into the local cinema to watch it over and over for free. It is a big part of bringing martial arts movies into the mainstream.}

07 Jun 2015 17:41:07
I really hope not who would replace Kim cattrall?

Mort

{Ed001's Note - Hayley Attwell?? Please Hayley Attwell!}

07 Jun 2015 21:19:46
Hmmm I can kinda see that. Kim Cattrall though, massive crush back in the day.

02 Jun 2015 09:57:56
I keep hearing hype regarding Ant Man, but have never heard of the comic character it is based on. Has anyone got any info on what type of character it is?

07 Jun 2015 17:41:58
Me neither, to be honest its getting silly now with all these adaptations.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - at least it is something different from the usual Batman/Spiderman etc remakes.}

07 Jun 2015 21:23:03
Fair enough I guess but their guaranteed money spinners so will always get remade. Suppose its god the less well known ones get a go. But ant man not sure if that's got any potential.

Mort

02 Jun 2015 09:57:10
Tron 3, anyone care about this? I never really enjoyed either Tron movie, so struggling to care if this is ever made or not.

Tron 3?
You mean they actually made a Tron 2? I don't believe you :-)
Tron was terrible, I remember watching it and thinking WTF is going on here.

{Ed001's Note - they did make a Tron 2, with Bridges in it again. It was as bad, if not worse, than the original.}

07 Jun 2015 21:36:44
I saw some of tron 2 very trippy

Mort

01 Jun 2015 19:23:28
Good evening Ed's!
With the weather being horrible here in Ireland and having all the time in the world to watch movies, I'm unsure of what to watch and would appreciate a few recommendations if you have the time to name a few.

I used to love horror movies, but having seen It Follows (decent movie btw) and not being able to find Unfriended on Showbox, there's not many new horror movies I haven't seen.

However I'm not watching just Horror movies, I've recently taken a liking to movies like Run All Night, Project Almanac, Chappie etc. All good movies however I'm not sure what type of genre in particular which I like!

Anything except war, gore and comedy (can't seem to find a comedy which is actually funny these days)! My only other restriction is something from the last ten years or so if possible, old movies just don't seem to be my thing!

Thanks Ed, appreciate your time!

{Ed001's Note - I asked the editors, will give you more of a varied bunch of films to watch:
Ed007 suggested Chappie.
Ed025 said Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy that's a comedy though.
Ed004 thought of Kingsman and Warrior (I agree on Warrior if you haven't seen it).
We all agreed on Equaliser.
If you were looking for a comedy it has to be the Horrible Bosses films that are worth a go.
The ones I would suggest are Sabotage with Arnie (surprisingly good I thought), Last Knights with Clive Owen and Wild Card was ok too. One to avoid Birdman, utterly awful, so boring I couldn't sit through it all.}

Cheers for the recommendations Ed's! I've seen the Equaliser, great movie, same with Kingsman. I'll have to take a look at Warrior, I've heard plenty of people mention it before but I never got around to watching it! Recent comedies have failed to impress me so far, but I suppose I could give the ones you've mentioned a watch! Birdman was never a movie that appealed to me in the first place, seemed to be more cringe than anything else!

Appreciate your help Ed's, keep up the good work!

{Ed001's Note - Ed007 also suggested Elysium and Ed004 suggested Hunger Games and Divergent, both of which my daughter loves. Ed004 also said Lawless.}

31 May 2015 22:46:59
Ed001, let's continue our discussion on Tarantino which started on the TV show page.

You said that Tarantino copies stuff, I personally don't know what he's copied however, I am an open minded person so would you care to share? Thanks ^_^

{Ed001's Note - Kill Bill was a copy of Game of Death, even down to Uma 'embarrassingly useless at martial arts' Thurman wearing the same yellow tracksuit Bruce Lee was famous for in the film. The guy who did the Mexican film with the guy carrying guns in a guitar case, the name of the film and director excapes me, but I think it was the same guy who directed the vampire flick with Tarantino in, anyway Tarantino rips lots of ideas off him. Except it is ok because he calls it a 'homage' like that war film he did, which was so bad I switched it off after ten minutes, that was just a rip off of, if I remember rightly, Dirty Dozen and similarly formulaic war films. Sorry, was a homage to them, not rip off, because he is allowed to copy and no one moans because he is 'cool', due to lots of violence.}

08 Jun 2015 11:34:23
Hit send too soon. The only films of his I've seen more than once is pulp fiction and reservoir dogs.

Mort

08 Jun 2015 11:32:41
Roberto Rodriguez el mariachi ed, which he remade as desperado I think with a cameo from Tarantino proving he's as bad in front of the camera as he is behind.

{Ed001's Note - that's it, thank you. You not a fan of Tarantino either then? I really do not understand why people love his films.}

08 Jun 2015 12:18:36
I was when I was younger and more impressionable and got caught up in hype. But then I realised he just stole other peoples ideas and blagged it as 'homage'. He tries too hard to be 'cool' and throw in too many pop culture references that it detracts from the finished film. In fact it's distracting.

As I said I've only seen pulp fiction and reservoir dogs more than once. Kill bill was over hyped mess and badly cast. Inglorious was just terrible and Jackie brown was so boring I dropped off.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I agree completely Mort. I was beginning to think I was the only one that saw it that way.}

08 Jun 2015 13:16:29
Your not alone ed. I think if he had an original idea his brain would explode. Its all style over substance, where's the story, what is he trying to say. There's no meaning to anything. I'm not expecting deep profound statements on the meaning of life or the human condition. But I do expect a story with relatable characters in a plot that makes sense. Basic storytelling dynamics. For all their faults things that Spielberg, Lucas even michael bay manage.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - exactly how I view him, style over substance. Sadly that is the world we live in, people want cool fashionable things, rather than quality.}

10 Jun 2015 13:20:12
The music industry is in worse shape.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I think it pervades all industries myself.}

10 Jun 2015 13:28:55
It does, I forced myself to sit thru mtv the other day in the name of research. My god. Never again.

Mort

{Ed001's Note - I have never been a fan of MTV.}
