I have recently watched Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates and have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. It is not a clever film or anything like that, just a bit of fun and at times it was actually quite funny.

The story outline is that Mike and Dave are a couple of idiots who have ruined family gatherings for years with their drunken antics. Their little sister, who they adore, is about to be married and she is afraid they will ruin her wedding. So the family gather and tell Mike and Dave they can only come to the wedding in Hawaii if they find nice girls to bring on a date.

The first part is about their search for nice girls after posting an ad on Craigslist, which leads to a few awkward moments, as the idea of a free holiday in Hawaii appeals to thousands of people, so they are swamped with offers. Eventually they end up getting tricked by the two girls they pick into choosing them over the rest. The girls they pick are bigger screw ups than they are. It leads to complete mayhem on the holiday weekend.

Some of the comedy is of the slapstick variety, some is situational, but it never really reaches that peak moment when you are laughing so hard you miss bits. In fact, I would say the main issue with the film is the pace of it, there was simply not enough comedy to keep you laughing. All in all though, a decent date night comedy but not something you are going to want to watch over and over.

ED001, I watched this with the missus and it was funny, just as funny to see her reaction to some of the moments.

Off topic looking forward to Doctor strange?

{Ed001's Note - I am really looking forward to Doctor Strange, it looks good, in the trailers anyway. Nice to have a new comic book hero to watch as well, something different from the rest. I just hope it is done as well as the rest of the MCU have been done so far.}

Bet you can wait to watch your favorite comic book hero "Logan" when it comes out Ed 😂. I know how much you love Hugh jackass.

{Ed001's Note - I love Wolverine, in the comics, but why oh why do they not re-cast him for a decent actor? Jack-off is utterly embarrassingly bad as him. One of the worst pieces of casting ever and they keep going with it! How can they not see he is unsuited for the role?}

And now maybe you'd think they'd look at a younger actor. He's been in the role for 15 odd years now. And he's not good at action scenes. He isn't convincing as a fighter.

{Ed001's Note - exactly, you could look past the crap acting if he could do the fight scenes well.}

Didn't Downey Jr say he was stepping down from iron man because he's getting too old?

He just doesn't have the presence for Wolverine. He doesn't come across as dangerous. And he uses too much product on his hair.

{Ed001's Note - that would be a loss, Downey is perfect as Stark.}

He's been brilliant. I'm sure a read an interview with him before Iron Man 3 came out that he was thinking the timing was right to finish him as Marvel was starting to introduce the phase 2 lineup and moving away from Iron Man etc. I think he signed up for 3 Iron Man and then the avengers films.

{Ed001's Note - that is a shame, I love Iron Man as a character too.}

26 Oct 2016 14:45:38
Yeah I much prefer the more recognisable roster such as Iron Man, Thor etc. Thors ending as well with Ragnarok isn't it?

{Ed001's Note - supposedly just changing over to a new Thor, as Thor is just whoever holds the hammer. His missus becomes Thor in the comics, so it is possible that could happen.}

If it makes you feel better Depp turned down Wolverine on the first xmen film.

Also as I know you love the lord of the rings films both Daniel Day Lewis and Russell Crowe turned down Aragorn. Connery turned down Gandalf. Jake Gyllenhaal auditioned for Frodo. And Uma Thurman had to drop out as Arwen as she was pregnant. Could have been very different films.

{Ed001's Note - Depp? What on earth? He is about as lacking in on screen power as anyone. That would have been embarrassing!

Not sure it matters who was in LOTR, they were not intending to stick to the books, so they were always going to be horrible.}

I though Ian McKellan was a good Gandalf. can't picture many others.

Russell Crowe as Aragorn?

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he is right for Aragorn, he is not the mean, moody, silent type, like Aragorn is meant to be. Crowe is the charismatic speech giving type of hero at his best. Mind, they made such a mess of the films, he could hardly have been worse, but it is when he is talking Crowe is at his best, imo.}

I think Crowe's Helms Deep an Black Gate speeches would have been interesting but can't see him really.

I didn't think LotR was as badly adapted as the Hobbit even though they changed a fair amount.
