So I got round to watching Wonder Woman yesterday and the best way to sum it up is it's an ok film but one I won't be watching again.

This had so much promise but it just fell short for me to many sections with nothing really going on, did enjoy the humour throughout but DC are really going to struggle to keep up with Marvel.

But I suppose they are still making money so probably don't care too much.

The Sunset Limited

Just watched the film yesterday. Yesterday was actually the day I have ever heard about this film.

It was about two men, and only two men (yes only two men during the entire run of the film), in an apartment (yes only in that small apartment for the entire film), arguing and confronting each other about life and death (and yes these two men arguing, debating, and confronting with each other in the entire film).

Samuel L. Jackson was a religious man who saves Tommy Lee Jones who was suicidal.

This was a really deep film, with the dialogues and top-notch acting from both of the leads. However, I have to say that this was a really difficult film to enjoy. But for me, this was a truly unique film, and I have never thought one could have the thought to create and make a movie with such a setup and story.

This was a really really good film.

Just done watching Zygote. For a 20 minutes short, that was pretty intense.

13 Jul 2017 12:12:26
Right people I'm planning on watching these over the weekend unless some of you can save me 2hrs of shite if you've already seen any of them.

The Mummy - new one
Wonder Woman
Alien - new one
Transformers - new one

{Ed001's Note - I haven't seen Alien but have the others and would not recommend any of them. WW is the best of them and I found that a bit meh at best.}

13 Jul 2017 12:47:35
bloody hell ed got to search for something else now otherwise I'll be bored out my mind.

Alien was the one I was trying to avoid I just know it will have nothing on the first 2 films.

The mummy I expected to be crap so thanks for clearing that up.

Wonder Woman I've had mixed reviews on that

Transformers I was quite looking forward too

Oh well bit of gardening instead then 😂

{Ed001's Note - you can come and do my garden if you like mate. Well, I say garden, it is 3 pot plants....}

13 Jul 2017 12:53:37
3 pots? Does your missus have a say in that? I've got about 30 going to have to put my foot down

{Ed001's Note - I need something to talk to with some sense, so I got some plants. It was either that or talk to the missus, so plants it is....}

13 Jul 2017 16:06:53
Your missus doesn't read this forum then ed 😂

{Ed001's Note - reading is not her forte.}

12 Jul 2017 20:32:21
If anyone really enjoyed the 'dredd' movie with Karl urban in, I see they have commissioned a tv series called ' mega city 1'. Apparently it's gona be similar to how dredd was. I can't wait for it personally as it will be a more grittier take on modern superheroes as such.

12 Jul 2017 18:55:51
I just went to see Spidey, difficult to review as it was a mish mash of terrible and brilliant! Some scenes were great, Spidey himself was really good, however Keaton is just useless as an actor and ruined Vulture (who is my fave comic book baddy ever). It is all very well having a gravelly voice but he is about as menacing as a kitten.

Iron Man/Tony Stark and Happy were a bit misused, but not so bad as to ruin it. THey used the old theme tune from the cartoons, updated though, so that was a plus, because I got to annoy the missus all the way home by singing it over and over.

As origin stories go it was decent, it was the other characters that let it down, as none of the bad guys were of any real value to the film. Flash was not much cop either, not really a proper bully. In fact that was the problem for me, too many side shows and not enough Spidey as Holland is really good in the role. The best bit of the film was the beginning with him filming himself.

Got to say the trailer for Thor:Ragnarok before it made that film one I am really excited for!

31 Jul 2017 03:47:09
i'm surprised you thought it was just decent ed. Thought it was great and i'm not big on the superhero genre. For once marvel had a villain in vulture who wasn't over the top. Someone you could empathize with too and a villain with actual motivation rather than hey i'm going to take over the world because i'm the bad guy. Thought Keaton played the role well, but then again i'm not privvy to the vulture in the comics so perhaps you know better than me. Agree that Holland was excellent in the role, even though it was the weakest spiderman we've seen out of all the spiderman movies it played well as his powers felt realistic. All in all a good superhero film for me.

{Ed001's Note - I like that Spidey was weak, I just thought Keaton was not very good, he does not have the brooding menace needed for the role. Fine as an overbearing dad, but as a villain he was just a bit meh. Still he was better than the previous baddies they have used in other attempts at Spidey, but that is because they have all been terrible. I am looking forward to the next one and hopefully they return to Vulture at some point as, in the few comics I read I can remember his son taking over the suit. What did you think of Flash?}

31 Jul 2017 06:48:42
Flash was a weird cast. Nothing against the actor that plays him, as I remember he was the funniest thing in grand budapest hotel. But he's flash character felt more like that dick in school who was more annoying than a bully. I guess they tried to modernise the role, I wouldve gone for some good old fashioned bullying. What ever happened to tripping you up in the hallway and wedgies when you least expect it.

{Ed001's Note - I am not even sure he was that annoying personally. Flash just felt like that annoying mate who always tries to embarrass him, rather than the bully who tries to make his life hell.}

09 Jul 2017 19:41:46
Anyone been to see Spider-Man yet? I friggin loved it! Tom Holland is a brilliant Spider-Man and this Peter Parker is totally devoted, tony stark plays his role well and I can see why some may not like Ned but I think he's great, plot was pretty fleshed out in a good way and leads to a good future hopefully, then again I'm speaking as my 5 year old self who will love everything Spider-Man Haha.

09 Jul 2017 22:05:56
I even forgot to mention the Vulture who I thought was played amazingly by Keaton, very menacing love the way he swoops through the air, a lot of this film has been made about its diversity and that they can change MJ from white to black( sorry if that was a spoiler) but Peter Parker must be white

{Ed007's Note - Me and the Mrs have just recently started 'seriously' watching superhero films apart from the usual Batman, Superman and Spiderman over the years. Is this new film involved with the films called The Amazing Spiderman with Andrew Garfield? I recorded TAS2 the other week on TV but we haven't seen the first one yet - does that make sense? It's so bloody confusing! We watched Captain America 1 and 2 the other week then we put on the 3rd one and we were like wtf's going on here! It was only when I was moaning about it to Ed001 and Ed004 that I found out there was a certain order to watch them, we watched Iron Man 1 and 2 the CA 1 and 2 thinking they were trilogies, although we haven't tried Iron Man 3 yet.}

09 Jul 2017 22:41:29
Haha Ed I've been there I know your struggles, yeah it's kind of one big timeline that dips in and out of bigger pictures and individual timelines, but the ones you watched the amazing Spider-Man have no relevance in what they call the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU), so the Spider-Man that just came out (homecoming) is te Spider-Man that is linked with the avengers and iron man and so on, does that kind of make sense?

{Ed007's Note - Yeah I've got you. Homecoming looks brilliant from the trailer, I've always been a big Spiderman fan since the old 70s TV show and the cartoon with Iceman and Firsestar but a lot of folk don't seem as keen on him compared to your Batmans etc.
I think I must have been the only person who wasn't blown away by Deadpool, in fact I thought it was pretty poor, and although I really enjoyed Suicide Squad the Mrs hated it. It's a weird messed up world to get involved in lol.}

10 Jul 2017 14:47:57
Am I right in saying, those that you like, missus will hate them. And vice versa. It's not messed up Ed07. I think it's kinda cute hehe.

{Ed007's Note - No not really we generally like the same movies except for her love and my hatred for Harry Potter. We pick a series of films and work our way through them, after the superhero ones we're going to catch up with The Terminator and Planet of the Apes films, that way it saves any arguing about what to watch.}

Jason Bourne

This was quite different Bourne movie compared to the previous films, from the story to set pieces and scenes.

The story much involved about Bourne finding more truths even though he seems like no longer having the amnesia. Parsons started everything though, because before that, like in Supremacy, Bourne was just trying to live off the grid. There were more techs or cyber thing or whatever it is in this one. And then there was this Lee character, who seems will be a Bourne ally but turned out to be having her own agenda which was revealed at the end of the film.

I missed watching Bourne's skills moving from country to country, his tricks in avoiding being traced by those who hunted him, and his brilliance that always put him steps ahead of others, which were brilliantly and excitingly executed in both Supremacy and Ultimatum but none in this one. I felt Bourne, in this, seems wounded, worn out, and predictable even though he seems to be physically fitter than the previous two films.

Thus, the film felt much more like an action movie instead of a spy movie. I enjoyed the last chase scene in Vegas though.

It was still a good film, but was a bit of a let down compared to the previous Supremacy and Ultimatum. To date, for me, Supremacy was the best.

The way the film ended, I am sure they are planning for another Bourne film. I hope the next one will be a step above from this.

John Wick : Chapter 2

I think what made John Wick really good was its interesting story, straight and simple plot, and cool fight scenes and gunfights.

As for this John Wick Chapter Two, I think they tried to make it bigger.

I won't complain about the amount of the action, as there were lots of it in this one. But were they cooler than the first? I don't think so. Some scenes for me weren't even as good as the first. The gunfights in the tunnel and museum, for me, were too long and repetitive. The fight scene in the train, was slow and ordinary. I didn't feel the awe watching the scenes as when I saw the first one.

They added more plots in the story. It just didn't work for me.

This is one main problem about sequels, when the first was so good. People tend to expect more from it. Now I just feel that John Wick would be much better without a sequel. I didn't like this one at all.

{Ed001's Note - agreed.}

Just seen a film with Antonio Banderas in it called Security. Not a bad action film at all. Bit formulaic but enjoyable.

Basic story - young girl is a witness to a hit, transport convoy is attacked, she escapes to a local mall and hides with the five security guards, who try and protect her from the killers.

Of course Antonio Banderas is a "super-soldier" starting a new job as a security guard after being desperate to take any job and he is there to take charge of the situation. You can probably guess the rest but it was still very watchable.

Hi all,

You guys aware about Oats Studios project by Neill Blomkamp? It is a project, independent project, producing series of experimental short films which are now aired for free in Youtube and Stream. All of the shorts were directed by Blomkamp himself.

I suggest you guys check them out. For me, there are very good, good gore, good effects, good humours too, but story-wise I'm not sure. But I really like the look of them all.

The BFG

I haven't read the book yet, so I'm not sure if it stayed true with the original story. Even if it wasn't, I personally didn't care much because me, my kids, and my wife all enjoyed this film.

It was a really charming film. The second part of it was full of wit. We had a really good laughs. Visually? Well, it was Spielberg's, so as expected it was gorgeous and stunning.

A really good film to be enjoyed together with your family.

{Ed001's Note - which version? There are loads of versions of the BFG.}

02 Jul 2017 13:45:21
I honestly didn't know there are different versions of either the book or film. If the film, the one I watched was last year's, from Steven Spielberg. If book, I have one in my office, and I thought there's only one version of it. Roald Dahl.

{Ed001's Note - I only know of one book, but there are loads of different film versions.}

03 Jul 2017 06:51:40
You can try this one Ed01, maybe with your family or kids. I think they will enjoy it. It was also setup in Britain, talked in British accent, and I just knew that even the writer was a British. I'm sure the story itself is quite well known among the British, like you and your family.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, Roald Dahl is very famous in Britain, as is the story. Though he was actually born in India I think. My daughter is a bit old for it now though, she is 16 in August.}

03 Jul 2017 07:11:02
I think you are right, she is. There were mostly giants, and kids in it. No Chris Evans, Robert Pattinson, or Bieber in it. Haha

{Ed001's Note - she did love the version she saw a few years ago.}

Haven't seen it yet as my lad is a bit young for live action filma but the trailer looks very true to the book. I also believe Roald Dahl is actually Danish, or Danish descent, who was raised in England.

There is also a great story/autobiograohy about Roald Dahl that involves a car crash and his tonsils being removed but can't remember the name.
