Anyone heard the news that Hollywood is running out of 80s movies to reboot. Maybe now they can pull their fingers out and start producing new and original ideas.

{Ed001's Note - I thought they ran out of them years ago and were busy rebooting the reboots?}

31 May 2017 05:32:15
Imagine a reboot of the rebooted ghostbusters. It wouldn't suprise me that's for sure.

{Ed001's Note - now you have suggested it, they will be able to come up with the idea. They won't have actually ever have thought of it on their own.}

31 May 2017 05:41:49
Trust me, they've already think about it.

31 May 2017 01:45:09
I'm sure a lot in here are following rottentomatoes. Wonder Woman is currently getting a lot of rave positive reviews. Could be a good sign for other upcoming DC films.Now I want to watch this as soon as I can.

{Ed007's Note - I'll be watching it for the sheer perversion of it from back in days of yore, I'm old enough to remember the TV show but I'm disappointed they didn't cast Martine McCutcheon as WW in the new film - that would havs been hot!
Auto-erotic asphyxiation with the Lasso of Truth.........

31 May 2017 05:45:56
Ed07, from that disappointment, I think I managed to gauge how old you are. Or maybe I'm wrong, and you are just a gerontophilia, haha!

{Ed007's Note - I'm 43 mate. I had to Google gerontophilia but yeah, I'll admit to that lol I've always had a thing for older women hence my adoration of Ed002 :-D

29 May 2017 08:22:41
Just watched the 4th instalment in the Undisputed series and enjoyed it. They are not the greatest films in the world but they are watchable martial arts flicks. One of the more underrated film series around. Scott Adkins does a decent job as Boyka.

30 May 2017 05:47:43
Wasn't the first one Wesley Snipes in prison, and he had to fight that guy nicknamed Iceman or something?

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, Boyka was not introduced until the second one I think. Though now he is the central figure.}

01 Jun 2017 05:23:27
I've never seen the others only the first one. It wasn't too bad when I was younger, not seen it recently though lol.

{Ed001's Note - I have not seen it for a long time either, but I remember it being very watchable. It has moved away from boxing though, it is now MMA based.}

29 May 2017 06:08:42
Who even knew there was a Best of the Best 4? The first was a really good film, but the second and third were so bad I assumed the franchise had died, but it is showing on TV here right now! It really is as bad as it sounds as well.

29 May 2017 12:30:43
I think I remember the first, quite an old film, right?

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, Eric Roberts was the 'big' star of it.}

29 May 2017 12:38:56
Now I started to remember the song! Hey Ed01, thanks mate, started to recall some nostalgia moments during those years listening to the song. I'm going to search and download the song definitely.

{Ed001's Note - the song?}

29 May 2017 12:47:01
Yeah the main song. I think it has the same title with the film. That's all I can really remember about the film though.

{Ed001's Note - I don't remember that at all.}

27 May 2017 17:38:32
Batman V Superman

Finally I had the chance watching this. But, after the enjoyment I had with Man of Steel, this turned out to be rather a disappointment.

I don't know exactly how to say this; somehow I felt the story should be good enough, the narrations and all, but somehow failed to deliver. I read this one review about how the story has so much things to cover, and because of this it became a mess. I have to agree on that.

Like all other Snyder's films, this one was exactly just like them; loud and big in actions, which I managed to enjoy if not as much as I enjoyed Man of Steel.

I agreed with most of other posters in here, Eisenberg ruined the character Lex Luthor, and maybe ruined the most part of this film. If they are to include Luthor in the future Superman or League films, they really should consider to cast a different actor.

The ending could be emotional, has the potential to, but because of the mess prior to that, that ending scenes felt nothing. Superman died? Oh ok.

I might be watching this again tomorrow, just because I did enjoy some small parts of it. But overall, Batman V Superman is a failure.

28 May 2017 06:33:40
I feel like I have high standards because all I do is slate films 😂. This film Haizan was terrible. It should of been or could of been an amazing film if it was done right. The only good thing about it was Ben Affleck as batman. Hopefully he get a to do a film on his own as he nailed it I think.

{Ed001's Note - high standards is not a bad thing mate. You are right though, the film was terrible, though it should not have been.}

29 May 2017 03:32:15
I've never understood the need for movies like this, Alien vs Predator and Freddy vs Jason.

{Ed001's Note - because people want to see Aliens fight Predators etc. It is the kind of thing we used to bicker over as kids which would win, so I can see why they made them. However, in my opinion, cashing in on that is a mistake as it ruins the whole discussion, which means the film series has nothing left. Those kind of discussions are how films get in your head and become a part of your life and bring the films to life in your heart. Taking that away returns them to just being films that you watch and then forget about.}

29 May 2017 05:56:57
For me, I won't say that the film was terrible entirely. I enjoyed and appreciated it more after the second time watching it. But still max, I would never say that it was a good film either. The plots were terribly connected, but I did like some of the narrations. The dream sequences confused me, and seem wrongly placed in between the scenes, and maybe they shouldn't just scrap them entirely. The actions were quite OK, but sometimes a bit stupid. If I were to rate this film, I would rate it as 3 or maybe 4 out of 10.

{Ed001's Note - the thing I disliked was introducing the Justice League characters the way they did. It was badly done and felt like an afterthought. It certainly did nothing to get me looking forward to Wonder Woman etc.}

29 May 2017 06:05:20
Yeah Ed01. I forgot about this part. For me, personally, they should just scrap it off, it wasn't necessary at all. For me, the worst was Aquaman.

{Ed001's Note - it was clearly just shoehorned in to sell future movies and had no place in the film. If it hadn't been for the obscenely terrible Lex Luthor, it would be the worst thing about the film.}

29 May 2017 16:18:17
To me was the result of DC films wanting to instantly catch up marvel instead of playing the long game. As a result took two of the most iconic and loved comic series (frank millers batman the dark knight [could be wrong about the title but is the one where batman fights superman] and the death of superman) that could have made two great stand alone films and merging them to an incoherent mess.

Personally think if done as two separate films than would have been great! For reference their is an animated version of the frank miller batman vs superman comic and it is excellent! If they did a shortened version of that but kept their dark tone would have been great. Especially having batman having a far more elaborate scheme for beating superman compared to his "have krpytonite" plan in the film. side note the animated DC films over the last few years are actually quality

25 May 2017 23:12:58
I'm just curious on this one thing, and would really appreciate if any of the posters or the Eds could help me to answer.

I read a lot about payoffs when managers being sacked or left clubs before the end of their contracts.

I read a lot as well about directors or actors left a project, some even when the projects were midway in production. Did they receive a certain payoffs as well

{Ed001's Note - usually not, no. It depends what happened, why they left etc, but it doesn't happen often. Showbiz is much more cutthroat than football.}

25 May 2017 20:29:56
So when I 1st saw the trailer for suicide squad I thought it looked naff. But i thought I would give the film a try and be more open minded. My word, potentially one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Its like a really bad episode of the power rangers. Just everything about it is awful.

{Ed025's Note - not seen it myself max and never likely to after that review mate..

25 May 2017 23:17:02
I've read nothing but bad reviews about this one. Just like After Earth, I will still watch it though since I really like Will Smith.

26 May 2017 05:40:44
All flash no substance is the perfect description for Suicide Squad.

{Ed001's Note - it just doesn't work on any level at all.}

23 May 2017 19:49:42
Alien: Covenant (2017) - Ridley Scott

I saw this the day after it was released in Scottsdale, Arizona and I liked it. I ruined this movie for myself with watching all the footage given out by Fox, having read the leaked script and having watched a leaked test screening video. Despite all this, I still really enjoyed the movie.

No doubt plenty of people will disagree with me, but I think it is an excellent movie and has a sequence in the second act which is truly scary, gory and just plain sickening and is worth watching the movie just for it. Some good sound tracks, excellent acting by Fassbender, well supported by Crudup, Ejogo, Waterston and McBride. The third act was too fast and I was definitely disappointed with few scenes particularly associated with creature life-cycle but I won't hold that against the movie overall.

I was satisfied with how it picked up after Prometheus and the ending leaves us with plenty to think about and definitely sets up the last prequel before connecting to the original "Alien" (1979).

23 May 2017 12:06:04
Quite surprised to read that Snyder pulled out from Justice League, and Whedon of Avengers will be taking over. We might be seeing a different tone for League then compared to the previous two Snyder's Superman films.

{Ed001's Note - I would prefer to see DC stick with the darker style that the Dark Knight trilogy brought to the screen. Whedon will not do that at all and it could end up being just like the Marvel films.}

23 May 2017 12:15:11
Yup agreed. I enjoyed Avengers yes, but I want this to stay dark. That's the difference I want to see between these two.

{Ed001's Note - spot on. I want them to feel different.}

23 May 2017 15:43:28
In regards to Snyder stepping down, its been rumoured that a family illness is behind his decision. All the best to them if this is the case.

As for the dceu, it's dark tone is its only saving grace right now. The films stories are all around 5/10 so far but the visuals have been great enough to partial redeem the franchise.

20 May 2017 05:18:51
I know some in here like Tom Hardy. I just read that he will play Venom. I'm excited!

{Ed001's Note - that should be good. He has an air of physical menace about him when he wants to.}

18 May 2017 05:57:25
What films are people most looking forward to this year? I was looking through a list of forthcoming movies on a cinema website and saw very little that got me excited, though I would like to see the Tupac movie, All Eyes On Me.

18 May 2017 12:58:23
One of some that I'm looking forward to is Bad Boys 3. I enjoyed the previous 2, especially the 2nd. The explosions, the gunfights, the chase scenes, umph!!!

{Ed001's Note - really? I never knew that there was a third one on the way, or that anyone actually enjoyed the first two.... ;-)

18 May 2017 13:04:12
I think I was a bit off the topic. Bad Boys 3 is not exactly an upcoming film, right?

18 May 2017 13:12:38
It was. But Carnahan pulled out. They pushed the release date a bit further, so that might means that they are still going to do it.

Back to the topic, I like the look of Hitman's Bodyguard and A Ghost Story.

{Ed001's Note - I don't know, when is BB3 due out? I mean I would include Wonder Woman, Spiderman: Homecoming myself. I just wish Black Panther, the new Avengers movie and Deadpool 2 were due out soon!}

18 May 2017 13:20:26
I think you are trying to be a bit sarcastic there Ed1, but luckily I couldn't really get it haha

{Ed001's Note - me? Never mate!}

18 May 2017 13:39:40
Ok ok you weren't.

I've been waiting for someone to start a topic in here since it was quite quiet here in the past few days (lots are really excited after the West Ham game I think).

You started on this new upcoming film, so wanted to ask, you or any others enjoyed the Hellboy movies?

Read last week that they are making a new one, more like a reboot; new director and no more Perlman of course.

For me, I kinda hated the two Hellboy movies. In fact, I hated almost all Del Toro's movies apart from Pan's Labyrinth. I kinda like the Hellboy character (read only some of the comics though), but it kinda annoyed me reading the reviews and praises as if like the two Hellboy movies were stunning. Visually, yes, especially the monsters designs. Other than that; story, script, acting etc, NO.

So, I hope they make it way better this time, and I'm really forward for it. Not sure if they have started making it or not yet, but they already have a director, so maybe it will come out eventually.

18 May 2017 17:14:46
Kind of gone off movies, they don't seem to be making any that are really worth spending money on. I think the only new release I watched recently was Passangers two months ago with my now ex girlfriend.

I might watch the new Alien movie when I get the chance but that's probably it.

18 May 2017 21:16:49
Was looking forward to dark tower but less so since trailer, but new IT looks like it could be really good! Just wish it wasn't two parts. Besides that is the expected ones, Spider-Man etc

18 May 2017 22:22:02
I'm with you on the new IT movie it's got me pretty excited,I know what you mean about it being 2 part however I'm hoping this is due to the fact they are following the novel closely because if they are they would never get all the detail into one movie,going by the trailer I'm really excited to see Bill skarsgaard as pennywise,he looks amazing,as good as curry was in the 1st IT the clown was nothing like he was in the novel,I'm just praying it's not a case of trailer being better than the movie!!

{Ed007's Note - Wasn't the original IT done over two movies? I remember my Mrs banging on about how scary it was for years and when I eventually watched it it was over 2 parts - and not very scary.
Same old story that the film massively lets the book down.}

19 May 2017 00:03:09
Can't remember if the original was one or two movies, but read a bit about it and meant to basically install more of the gore/graphic parts of the novel into the new film and make penny wise more genuinely horrifying. From what I've read meant to incorporate more of the dark stuff from the novel which hopefully doesn't come across in a weird way would make the film better as penny wise is meant to evil incarnate.

19 May 2017 00:14:26
Agreed with you Roland on Dark Tower. The trailer didn't excite me much. Showed some of fancy gun moves and that was all. Maybe it was one of the rare trailers that didn't show much of the film, but it fails to excite me.

IT does look good though.

19 May 2017 07:44:41
Annoying thing is the cool gun tricks fits in with what's in the books. but the rest doesn't! Still think with it being based of seven fairly long books it would have been a far better to series rather than film

19 May 2017 17:17:37
yes the original was a 2 part tv series,i remember as a kid being terrified by it,however when revisited not so long ago I realised how crap it is,especially after reading the book.As long as it follows the book more closely ill be happy and won't go in expecting it to be better than the novel as they will never get all the detail from book to screen

{Ed007's Note - It was probably scarier when it first came out but it hasn't aged well at all. The book is excellent and I'm going to dig it out to read again now lol.}

23 May 2017 19:41:44
"Dune" could be interesting with Dennis Villeneuve directing it.

29 May 2017 12:38:35
No one dares decieve the Ordos!

12 May 2017 16:26:41
The other film I saw recently was Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I actually saw it a while ago, but I just have no idea how to review it. In many ways it was a bit of a mess of a film. A confused mess.

Where it does score well is the comedy and music score. However the story is not that good, the Sovereign made for crap bad guys and Mantis and Gamorra's sister (whose name escapes me) I thought were poor actors.

However, the Guardians themselves are an excellent, in my opinion, group of characters, who bounce off each other brilliantly and Baby Groot is almost worth seeing the movie for alone. The first battle sequence is a great scene.

22 May 2017 19:14:11
Gamoras sister was Nebula and played by the girl who played amy, the doctors companion in dr who

{Ed001's Note - Nebula that's it! No idea what you are on about with the rest though as I never watch Dr Who.}

22 May 2017 23:36:22
I thought the whole Nebula thing and sister killing sister was kind of drawn out in the first and didn't need to be included in the second, how did you feel about ego? I thought they could've done better maybe, I was battling with the concept of ego not being a planet for like half an hour lol

{Ed007's Note - My wee neice got down to the final 3 to play Amy as a kid in Dr Who - the red headed girl? Sorry but that's all I know about Dr Who, that and Daleks, it's not my cup of tea at all and I usually like weird sc-fi and odd 'classic' TV.}

12 May 2017 16:21:44
Two films I want to review that I have seen recently - firstly King Arthur the Guy Ritchie reboot. It was almost a dark fantasy reboot of Snatch or Lock Stock at times! Depending on how you felt about those films will decide whether you enjoy this version of King Arthur or not.

Personally, I loved Lock Stock and Snatch, so I really enjoyed this movie. Being very interested in Arthurian legends anyway (I was named after one of the knights) I was really keen to see what Ritchie would do with it.

While it is clearly an origin movie to launch a franchise, it is still a very watchable film in its own right.

12 May 2017 16:30:01
It's interesting that the guy from Sons of Anarchy is playing the lead.

{Ed001's Note - is it? I can't say that really interested me to be honest. Apart from the talk about him being constantly mistaken for Tom Hardy, which I found distracting as I was trying to see the similarities for part of the film.}

13 May 2017 07:03:24
Snatch, What a movie that was. Just pure masterclass.

{Ed001's Note - one of the best movies ever. To think Jason Statham was just an unknown before Ritchie decided to put him as the star of his films.}

14 May 2017 09:33:46
Stephen Graham as Tommy has turned into one of the best and underated around

{Ed001's Note - shame he is a bit of a knob as a person, because he is a truly excellent actor. But working for the S*n when you are a Scouser with no need of money is about as low as you can get.}

14 May 2017 19:04:50
Sorry ed, what are you on about? Thanks.

14 May 2017 19:06:17
Dont worry just realised what you meant, I don't read it so was not aware.

{Ed001's Note - nor do I, but he was given a lot of grief over it.}

10 May 2017 07:51:34
Just watched Blade Runner 2049 trailer, and I kind of didn't like the look of it. It have a retro feel but I couldn't help but to compare the overall tone of it to the likes of Arrival, which seems similar in some way. I know it was just a trailer, and I myself haven't even watch the original Blade Runner yet. I remembered some in here really rate the original. To those who have watched the trailer, do you guys feel that this 2049 might do justice to the original?

{Ed001's Note - I am avoiding trailers now, as they give away too much of the film and you go to watch it already knowing all the plot twists. As for BR2049, I am expecting it to be nowhere near as good as the original, which is truly a classic, but hoping to be pleasantly surprised.}

10 May 2017 07:24:38
Before I Wake. About a boy adopted by a couple whom just lost their son. During the early part of the film I thought it might be similar to Orphan or The Omen, but actually it wasn't. It wasn't a ghost or demon story but a story about a boy with a supernatural power. I wasn't really expecting that, and for that I was kinda dissappointed especially on the ending. Got few cheap jump scares, the creature/monster (or whatever it was) was quite scary at first, but not so much after a while (they showed it too much, which for me was a real turn-off). For me, this was a cheap horror supernatural film with some notable performance especially from that adopted boy.

09 May 2017 23:16:00
Jack reacher (2012)

Only got round to watching this now as was put off my all the bad reviews and not a big Tom Cruise fan. I was pleasantly surprised at what a good film it was. Great and clever story. Old school action scences with a great old school car chase to boot no too unrealistic stunts that are typically in Cruise movies, like jumping from planes etc. I think it got a lot of bad reviews as the book lovers where upset that the main character who is supposed to be 6'5 is played by Tom Cruise. 8/ 10
Will watch number 2 this week.

{Ed001's Note - did it have bad reviews? I don't remember. I do remember it being an enjoyable film but the second one is just like watching it again but not so well done.}

14 May 2017 09:30:52
Just watched 2, agree. Still a good film

09 May 2017 23:18:39
Dogs purpose -

Great film, if your a dog lover you will ball your eyes out all the way through, but has a happy ending. So all is good.
If your not a dog person I would guess to say you will find the film boring.
Don't understand all the bad reviews.
7.5/ 10.

07 May 2017 12:46:20
I've been an avid follower of the football sites for years, and it is only now that I've realised there's a site for movie fans! What are people's favourite films? My top 3 would be Pulp Fiction, Casablanca and Goodfellas.

{Ed001's Note - mine are mostly martial arts movies to be honest. Enter The Dragon, Ong Bak and I can't think which would be 3rd as it changes depending on how I feel.}

08 May 2017 21:30:14
It's quite difficult for me to list my top 3. There are loads of them. I think some others as well. It can be narrowed though to maybe 3 or 5 according to genres. If we are talking about martial arts, Ong Bak is definitely one of them alongwith Who Am I. When I first watched Ong Bak, it felt so fresh. Maybe there were loads of Kung Fu films but not much on Muay Thai back then.

09 May 2017 23:18:09
Not going on best films but regarding martial arts films, enter the dragon, the raid and the raid 2. seriously the raid films are IMO best martial arts films since Bruce Lee

01 May 2017 15:19:46
Got to watch the GOTG Vol 2 last night and thought I'd share my thoughts.

The first GOTG was one of the most surprisingly delightful films ever, funny, exciting with great characters and remarkable world building. It was the sort of film the phrase 'they captured lightning in a bottle' was written for. Could Marvel repeat the trick? The answer is kinda.

First of all what works; the inventiveness, characterization and humour are still all there. The opening scene is just as great as Starlord dancing through the ruins in Vol 1. Baby Groot is, of course, superb and the biggest surprise is that Dave Bautista's Drax is arguably the best thing in the film. The new character Mantiss is a bit hit and miss but by the end feels genuinely part of the group.

Whilst the film gets the look and the feel of the first film spot on it it loses it's way when it comes to story. The antagonists are a race called the Sovereign who are about as threatening as a sharpened grapefruit. Meanwhile the plot, which centers around fatherhood and Kurt Russel's character is just a little underwhelming.

If you liked the first one you'll enjoy Vol 2 but that's about as far as I'd go. It's not another home run for Marvel and fits in alongside their decent but unremarkable films (such as Ant-man).

P.S. There really are 5 post credit scenes in the film, one sets up Vol 3 (and you need to be familiar with the comics to understand it), one sets up a potential spin off and the other three are joke scenes.

01 May 2017 17:20:03
Saw it this weekend and somewhat agree. Is a bit like batman vs superman (which I could write an essay on stupidity about) but think the sovereign should have served as an opener and then left out entirely.

Didn't really improve the film at all and took away entirely from the more interesting story about quills heritage and ego. Also SPOILERS don't read if going to see it, but second half the film been them against ego would have been really good. Also thing the yondou (sorry about spelling) but was far too forced entirely and would have served better as just comic relief, if you think about first film the whole relationship him and quill makes literally zero sense. but still somehow a great film

01 May 2017 11:03:43
Kill Command. Decided to have a look at this film after reading Ed01's review. It didn't dissappoint. Actually, I am surprised with the overall look of the film. It was a low budget film, but the production design was one thing to be admired. The story was simple, not much to shout about. And that blonde robot, she is so hot. A decent film to kill one and a half hours of your time.

{Ed001's Note - it was surprisingly good. Shows a big budget is not essential to make a good film.}
