Hi ed it's a very disturbing film but just wondering if you had any information on a Serbian film if you've seen or heard of it. It's one of those films you and your mates sit and watch because you've heard it's brutal. I tried to look up info on it years ago when I seen it and seen that it possibly had a deeper meaning to do with actual politics in serbia but from the directors
Cut version I'm failing to see it and just see it being a sick disturbing film.

{Ed007's Note - I have heard quite a bit about it but never watched it mate. Have you watched what's said to be the uncut version on Youtube?*

https://goo.gl/aZ39KB

I've always held the opinion that once the critics start spouting off about hidden meanings in films it's just an excuse to cover up for a shitty movie. I reckon you're closer to the truth than the critics that it's just a sick film.

*That video is strictly over 18s only and even at that I'd still advise using your discretion about watching it hence I didn't embed it.

01 Dec 2016 20:24:47
Ye the uncut version is the one I watched very very disturbing i'm lucky enough to not be emotionally
Attached to films like that but showing this to any woman I think could cause a few breaks downs lol.

{Ed007's Note - Really? Guess that's me and the Mrs viewing for Saturday night. I put on David Lynch's Eraserhead back when we were in our teens and she still brings it up about how I made her watch it :-D

02 Dec 2016 01:11:32
That film is sick. I still couldn't accept if there's any reason or excuse to make such a film. I understand that maybe the people wanted to show something that is truly happening in their world or whatever, but by making this with such graphics, I can't accept it. I believe there's another way to depict such things, moral ways.

Those who haven't watch it yet, please dont. I love gore, i'm an avid reader of a gore site, but this is just too much.

{Ed001's Note - having been told about this film by Ed007, I will be going out of my way to avoid it!}

01 Dec 2016 21:33:10
Really mate everything sexually you can think of that's illegal is in this from rape, incest to things that Gary glitter would've been proud of.

{Ed007's Note - Is it really that bad? Over the years I found that so called banned films were always a bit of an anti-climax, Clockwork Orange, The Exorcist, I Spit on Your Grave etc but I think I'll draw a line at paedophilia unless it's in something like Spotlight.}

03 Dec 2016 18:22:09
Horrible movie, really is horrible.

{Ed007's Note - I want to know what Haizan is watching, is gore stuff like the Scream movies or Freddy Krueger and that to you young 'uns?}

04 Dec 2016 00:09:05
Ed7, I have no problem with the gores in it. The gores in it were just OK, some even plain stupid. But when gores added with child rape (not just child rape, there were even a scene of newborn baby rape!), incest (raping own son!) and those for me are just too much.

{Ed007's Note - It sounds disgusting but I wasn't meaning that mate, I was meaning what 'gore' films are you into, does it mean old hacker/slasher films and B movies, like Driller Killer etc? And what the hell goes on on a gore website? :-D

04 Dec 2016 00:34:54
Ha sorry Ed07. To be honest, I didn't get to watch many of that kind of films. I enjoyed Saw though, up until no 3, I couldn't stand watching Scream or Halloween, and in the past I've watched Faces of Death. It wasn't actually a film though, more like a documentary.

{Ed007's Note - I liked a couple of the Saw films because of the psychological edge to them playing a game but I'm not a fan of things like Scream and Halloween although the Mrs loves flicks like that. And that Human Centipede!! Bleurgh!!
Was Faces of Death good, I've heard of it and seen it on a few movie sites but never watched it.

04 Dec 2016 21:33:06
Just remembered Dead Alive, quite gross and gory film, and funny too, but it's quite an old movie. And there was this movie about a dentist I can't remember the title.

Faces of Death 1 was ok for me. That and Saving Private Ryan were actually the films that made me started watching gore videos and images. It is a documentary with videos of real gores happening around the world. If that is what you are looking for, I believe nowadays you can find lots of that kind of videos with more violent gores than the ones in it.

Anthropoid (2016)

Operation Anthropoid was a World War 2 operation, which was intended to assassinate a high ranking Nazi, Reinhard Heydrich, who was the main architect of the 'Final Solution' and an SS General. It succeeded, and Heydrich was the highest ranking Nazi to be killed by Allied actions during WW2. This is the story of the operation and stars Cillian Murphy.

I will be honest and say I am not able to give a truly unbiased opinion, as my uncle was involved in the film, and had a small role in it, due to writing a book about the operating titled The Mirror That Caught The Sun. Personally I enjoyed it, though I am not sure how enjoyable it would be to people that did not have at least some idea of the story it was based on. If you went in to it with no idea what it was about, it would probably not appeal or catch your interest, as you are likely to be confused.

If you do know the background, then it is an enjoyable and tense affair, leading you through the story well. It did feel a lot like a labour of love, rather than a Hollywood blockbuster, with an intent to tell the story, rather than water it down for the audience.

Viking Legacy (2016)

This was truly dreadful, so bad I had to turn it off after just a few minutes. Just avoid. If someone offers you the choice between your hand in a blender and watching this, choose the blender, it would be less painful. There is literally nothing about this film to make it worth recommending. The acting is awful, the sets are terrible, it is clearly low budget as there are only about 5 people in the entire film. This is one of the low points in cinematic history, an embarrassment.

30 Nov 2016 05:52:57
My Lucky Stars (1985)

This is one of the old Sammo Hung, Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao films, though Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao are not in it for long, sadly. This is a Sammo Hung comedy/martial arts film, which has Yuen Biao and Jackie Chan in it. A basic plot, involving two cops chasing an ex-cop over a diamond robbery, is just a way of getting the slapstick kung fu going. It is badly showing its age, in many respects, but it is still a decent film of the genre. Plus it is always good, as a huge Bruce Lee fan, to see Bolo Yeung in a film. If you like Sammo Hung films, then you will like this, if you don't, then it is best avoided.

In A Valley Of Violence (2016)

If John Wick was a western, this would be it. Ethan Hawke plays a mysterious stranger who rides into a small town, which is ruled over by a marshal, played by John Travolta. The marshal's drunk son picks a fight with him, loses and then decides to seek revenge, against the wishes of his father. He and his men attack the stranger, after he has left, in the wilderness and leave him for dead. Unfortunately for them, he has not died and comes for revenge.

I am not usually a fan of the western genre, but I really did enjoy this one. Ethan Hawke, as usual, was good, and Travolta was bearable, as he suits the revolting kind of character, being as he is one in real life too. This, like John Wick, is a lesson to Quentin Tarantino in how to make enjoyable films with violence in them, rather than pompous overblown dross that glorify in the violence. This is not a particularly standout story, it is just well told, which is more important, imo.

29 Nov 2016 07:45:40
You didn't like Tarantino's ha Ed01? Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained are my favourites though.

{Ed001's Note - I hate them, his stuff is just crap. I couldn't sit through one of his films, always get bored of the ridiculous overblown dialogue and stupidity of them. He tries too hard to be clever, when he just isn't.}

29 Nov 2016 10:03:34
Aha. And that exactly why I loved those two films, the overblown dialogues which I really enjoyed so much. As much as I like Tarantino's, I couldn't stand the stupidity of Rofriguez', Machete as an example, was a pure stupid movie.

{Ed001's Note - Machete is awful, I agree, but at least it is not trying to pretend to be clever, like a Tarantino film does. I prefer to avoid both directors. Both just copy better directors and rip off better films to make crap.}

29 Nov 2016 15:32:07
If you want to see overblown, search for "Shoot 'em up!"

Would you like a Carrot?

{Ed001's Note - that film is just funny. It is not taking itself seriously, unlike Tarantino, who thinks he is a genius by ripping off others with real talent.}

29 Nov 2016 15:39:57
I was creasing during the sex scene, rolling around the floor laughing, really!

{Ed001's Note - it is funny, the best bit is his rant when driving, I think.}

30 Nov 2016 00:42:30
Yeah. The turn signal. The best.

{Ed001's Note - it is so true as well. I think I have had similar rants myself while driving a few times!}

01 Dec 2016 18:45:07
I'm with you ed. Really can't understand it when they say they loved kill bill etc. I think they are very poor films. I did enjoy pulp fiction and reservoir dogs though.

{Ed001's Note - I have never seen Reservoir Dogs, but thought Pulp Fiction was one of the worst films of all time.}

Nine Lives (2016)

Kevin Spacey plays a daredevil workaholic billionaire who has become estranged from his second wife and beloved daughter. His daughter wants a cat desperately and, with time running out to get her a gift, Spacey's character races to a pet shop to get her a cat, despite despising them. The store owner, played by Christopher Walken, is extremely eccentric and sells him a cat called Mr. Fuzzypants. An accident sees Spacey's character (who is now in a coma) magically transferred into the cat to live with his family and see them through their eyes. With his much denigrated son by his first wife being left to battle a hostile takeover by the board of his company, Spacey is forced to watch him struggle and see life through different eyes.

This is a body-swap comedy with the twist of it being a cat, instead of a younger/older body that he is inhabiting. To be honest it just seems a waste of the talents of Spacey, though well suited to the utterly vacuous Jennifer Garner, who just pouts and offers nothing in the way of talent or ability. As a kids movie, it is decent enough, for adults it is bearable silliness, with the odd laugh to make it passable entertainment. It is certainly not so bad as it would seem from having bombed at the box office, there are many worse comedies out there. However it is nothing more than ok.

The Man from Nowhere

Before this, I preferred to steer away from Korean movies. It was mainly because of the impressions that I had after seeing the drama series that my sisters loved to watch. All of them were typical; so-called super good looking lead actors, and gorgeous lead actresses, and love stories.

After I watched Shiri and The Host, I started to discover there were actually lots of good quality Korean movies, and they are totally different from the drama series. I even watched A Moment to Remember, which was indeed a love story, but I found it was a really good movie. I stumbled upon The Man from Nowhere from my sister's recommendation, and since, I've watched this movie numerous times I've lost count on how many times exactly I have watched this same movie. It still brought me to tears everytime I watch it.

It's about a man who works/owns a pawn shop who kept being pestered by this one little girl. Little was known about this guy, until something happened to the girl and this guy decided to do something about it. He actually cared about the girl. And, the film started to reveal who this guy really is, or was.

One thing this film never lacks of, is the thrill it brings when the guy hunted the people responsible for what has happened to the girl, one by one. With Bourne-like action scenes, such as running through windows, hand to hand combat, and maybe some others, the guy destroyed an entire criminal gang just to seek revenge for that one girl that he really cared of.

I have to admit, the build-up might felt a bit long to some. However, I felt it was necessary to let the audiences feel the connection that the guy and the girl are having, so that we could understand why the guy decided to go "all-out" on those bad guys.

The ending of the film was really touching, IMO. It was just a small twist/surprise, but it was enough to make me cry (just some tears though, not like really crying) every time I watch it.

Won Bin was perfect as Taesik (the guy). Most of the times, he portrayed it as a very calm no-nonsense kind of guy. He didn't talk much, but the calmness works throughout the film. And when he started showing his skills (the first move he made when two bad guys came into his shop was, wow), it just kept on building.

Most of the humours came from the boss of the gang and his brother, and they were just light humours though and it didn't affect the overall mood of the film, which is definitely not an action comedy film.

I'm writing this to at least make you guys feel more interested to check it out. This is definitely a must-see. It's Korean action movie at its best, and maybe a bit more.

{Ed001's Note - sounds a bit like Man On Fire, with Denzel Washington, which I love as a film. I will look for this film and give it a watch thanks for the recommendation.

Have you see that Train To Busan or whatever it is called? Quite a few people have recommended that to me but I have yet to get round to seeing it.}

28 Nov 2016 07:10:25
I would say yes somehow almost like Man on Fire. I really like Man on Fire as well, though I'll put this a bit over Denzel's purely because of it's heart touching scenes. Denzel's was pure rage and rampage, and Ed01, I dare not to compare between these two. Both have their strengths.

I heard about it as well, and how most said how good it is. Haven't seen it yet. Definitely will.

{Ed001's Note - I am going to take a look at Man From Nowhere as soon as I get a chance. Looks good.}

28 Nov 2016 06:29:58
I.T. (2016)

Pierce Brosnan plays Mike Regan, who owns a flight leasing company about to change the face of flight leasing with a new app. With this on the horizon, he is trying to raise money for the company through an IPO, in order to launch the app. With everything balanced on this going through fine, his work experience lad, who is in his 20s, takes a shine to his teenage daughter. He forbids them to see each other, but the work experience lad is a stalker and a hacker, who decides to destroy Regan.

The film feels rushed, not enough scene setting to explain what is happening. It just felt like bits were missing and it was forced through to get the story done. The ending was particularly poor. The acting was not good either. It just was not a well done film. Not sure why Brosnan took it to be honest. It was a badly told story by the director, John Moore, who must be disappointed with it. If not, he should never direct another film again.

08 Dec 2016 00:28:12
I watched this a few weeks back and it looked brilliant from the trailer but your right, was terribly made, really kinda shocked me at how bad it was, I struggled to watch it all and when I did I was gutted I'd wasted my time.

End Of A Gun (2016)

Steven Segal pumps out lots of movies, almost entirely unrepenting garbage, in which he barely appears, though is billed as the main star. Worse is the fact that his role is normally 90% body doubles and badly dubbed voiceovers that are clearly not actually him. It just makes you wonder how desperate he actually is for money, how greedy he must be, that he puts his name to so much dross that most people would not want their name associated with.

The sad thing is that this bizarre mess of a movie is one of the best movies he has done in recent years. As usual, Segal is the saviour, the hero who protects women (wonder if his ex-wife Kelly LeBrock would agree with that?) and ends up in the midst of a sticky situation due to saving a woman's life. The woman he saves turns out to be a the girlfried of a druglord and he ends up, as usual, having to beat up and kill lots of bad guys on his way through the film.

It is standard Segal-fare. Lots of dead bodies, fight scenes involving body doubles and shooting people while delivering crap one-liners very badly. All while hinting at a past where he was some kind of agent. Give it a miss, unless, like me, you are just looking for something to have on in the background that allows you to fall asleep and not get involved in watching it.

25 Nov 2016 06:58:32
Bounty Hunters (2016)

I am not sure whether this film is a Korean or Chinese one, as it was in both Mandarin and Korean, but either way it was an enjoyable enough action/martial arts comedy. It is basically the story of two blokes who were meant to be acting as bodyguards and they tangle with a group of bounty hunters while trying to get their charge back from a kidnapper. The bodyguards team up with the bounty hunters to become a bigger team.

All very fancy and flash, with settings in yachts and posh hotel rooms, to try and set the idea that it is all high living and lots of money, so they could sell the idea of them being able to use all the James Bondesque gadgets. Personally I am not sure that adds anything to the film, though it did allow them to cover plotholes with the use of a gadget.

At its essence, it is just a fun action romp, with hot women and martial arts, mixed with gadgets and action. Think Jackie Chan crossed with James Bond, but with more humour, as it was certainly not meant to be serious. A decent bit of fun, though not for anyone who hates subtitles or dubbed movies. I enjoyed it though.

24 Nov 2016 05:55:10
The Perfect Weapon (2016)

Well this is a Steven Segal movie, so you know what to expect. Bad acting, Segal as a superhero in all but name that scythes through the baddies and a rubbish script. Except, in this film, Segal is the baddie, known as the Director, who controls all humanity, and has a very small part. He is still a superhuman fighter, who even the supposed best assassin they have, Condor (who is the lead and makes Segal seem like a talented Shakespearian actor) gets taken apart by. This is a terrible sci-fi film, set in the near future of a 1984-like world, plagued by the terrible acting, awful script, crap fight scenes and rubbish effects. I really do not know why I watch Segal films, so few of them are worth bothering with. The guy takes himself far too seriously. If you are looking to be entertained, this probably is not the film, but if you are looking for something to put on when you want to fall asleep in front of the TV, then this is near-perfect!

24 Nov 2016 21:15:24
Shame on you Ed, Steven seagal. And I thought u had taste.

{Ed001's Note - I liked Nico and I love martial arts films, so I am always willing to give them a try, just in case he ever returns to making decent films. Sadly he is too fat and old and full of himself to just make a good film.}

25 Nov 2016 17:37:03
Steven Seagal is just an older fatter version of Keanu Reeves, a plank of wood.

27 Nov 2016 14:22:57
Haha that's harsh hsf. At least Reeves fights a lot better than Segal. Oh I love John Wick.

{Ed001's Note - Reeves is terrible, he is slower than the ancient, fat Segal, and really does not move well. I do love John Wick too though, despite the plank of wood in the lead role. Neither of them should be making movies.}

27 Nov 2016 21:41:42
Haha. i'm going to surrender defending him, definitely. But considering John Wick's character, and basicallt what he needs to do is just fights and shoots, I can't imagine somebody else much suited for it though. Maybe younger Seagal. Haha

By the way Ed01, I just wrote a review of The Man from Nowhere. I can post reviews here, right?

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, reviews would be great, just post them in here. When we have enough, I will get Ed033 to organise them into categories etc on their own pages.

To be honest, I can't think who would work better than Reeves in John Wick. Anyone who could act would be wasted and Segal would have ruined it by trying to insert bits to show he is really a nice guy, honest.}

23 Nov 2016 11:11:24
Criminal (2016)

Silly story, but a decent film. Kevin Costner is an inmate on death-row and the memories, secrets and skills of a dead CIA operative are implanted into him, in the hope he can foil a plot. Suspend disbelief over the stupidity of using a death-row inmate, that is clearly unhinged, as the basis for the operative's memories and just sit back and enjoy the ride. It is enjoyable. At times it is violent, at others comical, sometimes both, but there is a fair bit of action and it flows well. If you like action movies, then it is worth a watch. It is not going to change your world, but it is, nevertheless, an entertaining film to pass a couple of hours with.

24 Nov 2016 14:38:58
Haven't heard about this actually. Sure will check it out. Have you watched 3 Days to Kill, Ed? It wasn't a really good film, yes, but I kinda like it.

{Ed001's Note - the one where he is dying? If so, yes I enjoyed that as well. Thought it was a decent film.}

23 Nov 2016 10:52:11
Imperium (2016)

This will be a very quick review, as I have to be honest I got bored and turned it off very early on. It might turn into a great film later on, but it never caught my attention and so I only managed to sit through 10-15 minutes before I switched off and watched something else. Daniel Radcliffe was ok, but the lead in to the actual story was so laboured I could not wait for it to begin. You would need more patience (and more spare time) than I if you are going to watch it, as it just goes nowhere at the start.

21 Nov 2016 09:07:36
War Dogs

I watched this the other day and have given myself a couple of days to think about what I saw and really digest it. It is based on a true story, though how loosely based I have no idea, about two friends from school who begin legal arms dealing, at least legal on the face of it. They chase US govt contracts, always on the lookout for more and more money, until eventually they land the 'big one' which causes no end of problems and leads to the break up of their partnership and eventual arrest.

Firstly, it is very much told from the viewpoint of one member of the partnership, and is completely sympathetic to him, almost blaming everything on the other guy, the one played by Jonah Hill. The film does its best to paint it as a victim, while convienently overlooking how he benefits massively financially and knows exactly what is going on at all times. In fact, he clearly knew that it was likely to go pear-shaped and made sure to save everything in order to have a bargaining chip in future.

That aside, the film itself was not the best. It started off like it would be a good film, but it really never went anywhere. There was not enough action or comedy or any real engagement with the characters. I found it difficult to empathise with them. I even found it difficult to care what happened about them either way, as they were so lacking in any depth that they just did not matter.

In fact, I was extremely disappointed with this film, which had such an interesting story to work with, yet it took it nowhere. There was barely any action, no decent dialogue, no really funny moments, nothing of note at all. It felt like someone watched Wolf Of Wall Street and tried to copy it, but missed what made that film work. Instead of ending up with a film which left you with quotes and moments to remember, this just left you cold. It was a bit of a 'meh' film.

23 Nov 2016 21:45:41
The first 20 mins didn't hold my attention at all ed, however the rest intrigued me, mainly because it was a true story and wasn't familiar with the story.

A random annoyance with the film though is that they both sound similar so during the early stages I was trying to work out I the voice over was the same of it was interchanging.

Completely agree that the story was one sided, and painted him angelic. Even though he knew full well what he let himself in for.

{Ed001's Note - it's a shame, because the actual story it was based on was really interesting and it should have made for a really good film.}

21 Nov 2016 01:54:00
How about Sicario, guys?

Another one of my favs.

Love the shootout scene at the border. Short, but efficient.

{Ed001's Note - I really enjoyed that film, though Blunt's accent was a bit, odd.}

20 Nov 2016 19:51:27
A film that's been out a few years now, but I was just wondering what peoples opinions were on it.

I'm talking about No Country for Old Men with Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem.

I really was left a bit bemused by it at the end. Really, really confused as to whether the movie was a complete troll or whether it was serious.

{Ed001's Note - I have to admit I was bored and switched it off long before the end. Hated it.}

21 Nov 2016 01:15:03
I found it difficult to accept that there are lots who didn't like it.

I love Tommy Lee Jones in it, Bardem was terrifying as the main villain, Brolin was OK, and I really like Harrelson's character eventhough he wasn't that long in it.

Two particular scenes I love the most was the petrol station scenes, and scene before Bardem shot Harrelson in a hotel room. Those two scenes really translate that Bardem's character wasn't just a hitman, but more like a boogeyman that brings fears to others. And throughout, Chigurh was indeed a terrifying and scary villain. Bardem was really good, and as good as in Skyfall.

I know a lots who didn't like the film because of its slow-pacing, but that kinda works for me.

In a way kinda agreed with hsf. I was expecting more for the ending.

21 Nov 2016 02:38:27
The scene where Tommy Lee Jones is driving up to the Motel and the pick up is driving off. What a slap to the face for the viewers man, seriously.

I'm trying not to give away spoilers for those who haven't seen it, so I am trying to be vague about it, sorry lol.

19 Nov 2016 09:34:55
Hi ed001 saw that you like martial arts films just wondered if you have seen kung-fu full hustle and what you thought of it

{Ed001's Note - I don't like that or Shaolin Soccer myself. Just doesn't work for me. I prefer something such as Arahan, it is a Korean martial arts film. Though my main preference is more 'real' stuff, without the wires and stuff, like Ong Bak. If it has to be the wire-flying stuff, I would recommend films such as the Legend of Fong Sai Yuk films with Jet Li in them.}

19 Nov 2016 11:13:37
You mentioned Korean martial arts. Have you watched I Saw The Devil or The Man from Nowhere? Though both are not exactly martial arts movies, but both did have some really awesome fight scenes.

{Ed001's Note - not yet, I will add them to my 'to watch' list. There was another one I saw that wasn't really a martial arts film, I just can't think what it was called. It was actually a Korean Western, in essence, though set in Korea, it had the feel of the old cowboy films and was set in that time period.}

19 Nov 2016 12:52:28
You are referring to The Good The Bad and The Weird I think.

{Ed001's Note - I think you are right mate, that sounds familiar.}

19 Nov 2016 07:05:07
Very interested in what Danny Boyle is going to do with T2. Now that is a task. Taking the classic trainspotting and putting a sequel in place!

19 Nov 2016 23:33:27
At first when I read about him making T2, i thought he is remaking Terminator 2.

18 Nov 2016 16:27:18
whats everyones view on doctor strange? for me was one of the best comic book starter films i have ever seen

19 Nov 2016 08:57:19
Thought it was great as you say possibly marvels best starter movie by the end I'd even forgotten about cumberbatches awful accent lol.

20 Nov 2016 14:01:19
Man that film could of broken all the work Marvel are doing right now. It has added to a already sublime story being told.
Had everything in it. Absolutely brilliant. Cannot wait to see the others

18 Nov 2016 12:05:25
Battle Royale Ed?

{Ed001's Note - I love that film, one of my faves. Far better than the rip off films, such as Hunger Games.}

19 Nov 2016 07:03:34
Everyone I speak to about films. Battle Royale is a must.
Do love old boy. The original and I didn't mind the re-make with Josh brolin.

{Ed001's Note - I did not enjoy the remake personally, I did not see the point in it.}

19 Nov 2016 11:15:26
Old Boy is a really disturbing film. I couldn't take the twist at the end of it.

17 Nov 2016 16:16:28
Hi Ed. Thanks for the post to this site. As if I don't spend enough time scrolling down the rumours of LFC enough. ha ha

Couple of questions if I may?

1st, what's your favourite film of all time buddy?

2nd, do you watch a lot of British films?

{Ed001's Note - 1. Probably Enter The Dragon. It was the first martial arts film I ever watched and sparked an obsession with Bruce Lee, martial arts and martial arts films that I still have to this day.

2. I do watch them if I see them. They are a very mixed bag though, some are utter cack, others can be very good.}

Dead mans shoes. Shane meadows directs it.
Guy behind the This is England trilogy. Have you seen that?

I put my kids in front of the Goonies (best film ever made)
They panned it!! I cried, as good as CGI is, kids need to appreciate classic made films

18 Nov 2016 11:26:01
British. Stevens, Hardy, Hoult those are some British actors whom I really like.

Are Sunshine and Dredd considered as British movies?

{Ed001's Note - I have seen Dead Man's Shoes a while back when it first shone on one of the movie channels, because it was by him, but I can't really recall it at all. Was it about a hitman in the Midlands or something? I loved This Is England, fantastic film.

I can't believe anyone would pan The Goonies! It is awesome.

Sunshine is defo a British movie, depends on which version of Dredd you mean? The Sly Stallone one wasn't, but the more recent (and far superior one) was.}

18 Nov 2016 11:42:58
I meant the recent Dredd Ed01. Urban was awesome in it, right? Though the story some tend to relate it with The Raid, but I don't really care.

I hope they will be doing a sequel, but sadly it seems that they won't.

Did you enjoy Sunshine ed? I have kinda mixed feeling about it. It started OK, but when it came to the final part of it, that final part really ruined everything for me.

18 Nov 2016 12:04:55
I did hear that 2000AD had commissioned for a dread 2!!
I hope so, it is a great character.

An army officer goes back to the midlands after his brother gets in with the wrong crowd.

{Ed001's Note - I would like to see a second Dredd film.

Ah ok, I have seen it, I just can't remember much of it.}

18 Nov 2016 13:09:40
Talking about British, they actually got lots of great talents. Godzilla's Edwards is British, Travis of Dredd is, Tom Hardy of course, and even Jordan Henderson is!!

19 Nov 2016 18:40:29
I liked Sunshine, had no idea it was a British movie.

Some others I enjoyed were Children of Men and Creep. I mean Creep was no oscar winning movie or anything, it was just a lot better than I was expecting.
Children of Men I saw via what was at the time NTL on demand. I paid a penny for it and thought it was awesome. The scene in Brighton with the huge refugee camp that's being attacked by the Army was a really well made scene especially.

{Ed001's Note - Children of Men is a really good film.}

21 Nov 2016 01:51:09
Hsf, the car or bike chase scene was awesome. I couldn't think of any other as good as that scene. Breathtaking.

21 Nov 2016 08:32:47
There are many great scenes in it, but I still say this scene was just, wow.

21 Nov 2016 10:00:44
That scene was sweet as well.

I think it showcased how good some of the Mexican directors, Cuaron and Inarritu especially. They captured the audiences through gorgeous and breathtaking cinematography.

I would love to highlight Gravity in particular. The story was actually straightforward IMO, but the scenes, the scores within the scenes, and sometimes there weren't much scores but just silence that really works for me.

Have you guys watched Birdman and The Revenant? I felt a bit mixed with Birdman, but couldn't deny the super long take scenes in it were awesome. As for the Revenant, the bear attack scene was awesome, and I really enjoyed the film as a whole.

{Ed001's Note - Gravity was truly dreadful, but a work of art compared to the complete dross that was Birdman, imo. Hated both films.}

17 Nov 2016 16:02:35
Hi eds,thanks for another great site!just curious, ed001 are you a comic fan? If so what character would you like to see get a film? Although mostly hated have my own theory on sentry and reckon if done right could make an amazing and unique superhero film

{Ed001's Note - I do like comics, but I haven't really read them in a long, long time, due to time.}

17 Nov 2016 15:55:42
other than Liverpool, movies are my passion although I must say I am beginning to lose a bit of interest lately, simply cause they are not that good anymore. One question though, why doesn't anyone mention The Crow as one of their favorites?! Great action. music, photography, action evth! I just think it is hugely unappreciated!

{Ed001's Note - I love the Crow, but then I was a huge fan of Brandon Lee. It is one of my all time favourites.}

17 Nov 2016 17:41:57
I remember watching for the 1st time that movie with brandon lee and dolph lundgrane and freaking loved it! but then I watched it again a few years back and let's just say that it didn't make the same impression!

{Ed001's Note - something about Little Tokyo wasn't it? Lundgren was awful in it. I liked Rapid Fire myself, though it was not a big hit.}

17 Nov 2016 18:00:16
exactly!!!! I miss those movies, that era! they were at least, original

{Ed001's Note - they were not entirely about special effects either.}

17 Nov 2016 12:33:26
I didn't know you have this site for years Ed01. I've been browsing through boxofficemojo, comingsoon, and rotten tomatoes to get news or reviews for the past years. Not able to really involve in the discussions especially comingsoon as it is more about comments than a forum. Well, I guess I can now.

Btw, not sure how this site works. Got a few movies I would like to ask fellow readers to give their opinions, not sure where to post though. Does the Talk 2 or 3 act like Banters page and Talk is for main post about only new movies?

Btw, nice work guys!!!

{Ed001's Note - post anywhere mate, it is all one long banter page to talk about movies, new or old. Good to have you aboard.}

17 Nov 2016 15:44:33
Thanks Ed01. Wow I just realized that I have a really long list of movies to ask, but I'll start with one first.

Have you guys watched The Mist? Back then, I was anticipating this movie to come out just because it's Darabont's. I love Shawshank, I really enjoyed The Green Mile but not as much as Shawshank, but The Mist for me is one of his best (of course Shawshank is still no 1 for me).

Somehow my family members and some of my mates didn't enjoy it. Maybe because of the set-up, there isn't any battle scenes with the aliens, and of course the ending. My wife hated it just because of the ending.

But those are some of the reasons that made me feel that this is one of the best movies; the differences compared to others that fall in the same genre, the feeling it brings, the tone of the scenes.

So Eds and others, care to share your thoughts on this?

{Ed001's Note - I have to be honest, I have never seen any of those three films. All have been on my 'to watch' list for a long time, but somehow I have never got round to it.}

17 Nov 2016 21:22:07
Then Ed01, you really have to check them out. I would like to urge you to prioritize Shawshank first, but jail-break sometimes doesn't quite appealing to some so I would suggest to start with Green Mile or Mist.

But Ed01, if you agreed that "jail-break" is not that appealing, with guys raping guys, no chicks and all, believe me, there are lots who thought like that too even me as well. After watching it, really this is a truly carefully narrated masterpiece. The ending, especially the narration by Freeman at the end of the movie was beautiful.

{Ed001's Note - ok cheers mate, I will try and get round to them at some point.}

03 Nov 2016 19:23:52
The new Wonder Woman trailer:

06 Nov 2016 21:02:52
I'm gona be honest Ed and say it looks a bit naff. Think DC are missing something, but not sure what it is. There films should be so much better. Only the dark knight has done them justice.

{Ed001's Note - I am not impressed, but there is a story going round from an industry insider that it is a deliberate policy of just putting out anything as they get such a huge return without effort. It just doesn't make it worth their while to put in the time and money to compete with Marvel now, as it would cut into the profit margin too much. They are just going down the 'throw them out and watch them make money' that Fast and Furious etc have gone down. It doesn't matter that they are utter crap, people will still spunk millions on watching them at the box office.}

07 Nov 2016 06:12:01
It doesn't surprise me that ed, it's not just dc but a lot of blockbuster films are utter garbage. I can't remember the last time I left the cinema thinking I had seen a classic. I could rant all day about how awful films have gone. It feels like no effort goes into Storylines whatsoever.

{Ed001's Note - agreed. Those which have been a struggle to make, such as Deadpool, are the ones that stand out, as it is clearly a labour of love, whether you liked it or not, you can't disagree with that. There was thought and effort gone into it, which made it different from the usual films. Sadly I expect only small budget films will ever have that in the future.}

07 Nov 2016 06:18:45
I think one of the main things is they try and make films appeal to all ages. Back in the 80's a lot of the best films were rated 18. They should do that again, like they did with deadpool and make films more for adults, instead of being a cash cow for everyone to watch.

{Ed001's Note - agreed, even the kids films are not really for kids any more, they try and make them appeal to everyone. It is quite sad really.}

07 Nov 2016 21:36:07
All the best films were made in 80s early 90s. Now there's no effort.

11 Nov 2016 12:39:32
Think the issue with films is that there is no imagination, look at disney re-hashing all their movies into live action. and the majority of films now are the same story previously told just updated a little. The newest trend being making films with all Women casts (Ghostbusters, Oceans 8)

11 Nov 2016 23:19:00
Yeah I didn't get that for Ghostbusters. By all means have women on the team. But all of them?

12 Nov 2016 08:24:46
It's because it's the newest thing that sells. I get it, but it annoys me that they can't have a new narrative with an all female cast, probably scared no one will buy into it.

17 Nov 2016 15:27:29
When talk about them making films that appeal to everyone, especially kids family, yeah somehow I agreed.

Some good examples are Pixar's, Ratatouille, Inside Out etc. No I'm not saying those are bad movies, in fact they are very very good movies IMO. Its just that the complexities of the stories, even the humours or jokes made children couldn't appreciate them enough. Yeah my kids enjoyed them, but it's more down to the visual splendour than them really understand the stories and the messages.

Maybe it's somehow because of the difference of language. But I do remember back then when I was a kid, and I have close to zero ability in understanding English, I still able to understand the stories.

All in all, this is just my perspective.

17 Nov 2016 15:49:03
very true madmax, I hate taking my little brother and sister off to watch something that's clearly not 18 but then having to cover their ears over the swear words and hugely inappropriate scenes, I may be too protective but hell I don't care
